One ridge over, we had great skiing both in the open and under the big trees above ~4K from west through south aspects - the turning conditions were holding up much better than I'd expected/hoped in fact! Only a few random bomb craters that were easily skirted in bouncy snow. It was nice not to feel a bottom even in the deep forest. No signs of instability, even on a few ski cuts of 35-ish degree convex humps, save for 2-6" of very small reactive pockets of snow blown into the lee of w...
Definitely class 5 terrain. If it weren't for the nice snow pack we would have needed a rope to traverse and rap down where we were. As it is, we had nice cascade concrete to get excellent purchase with our boots. :)

Three of us followed you guys up on Friday (the 28th). Was a stellar day out - The full moon and stars, and then the sun was out and shining from the start. We carried on beyond the notch in the East Ridge of Chair and stomped on some steep slopes to test stability and dug a pit under the North Face of Chair. The storm layer 6" - 12" down was very well bonded so we skied first tracks down to Snow Lakes. There is now a "min" glacier forming at the West...
Dan - I've done that ridge in the summer from Snow Lake Divide to the summit of Snoqualmie. I got into a lot of unintended 4th and 5th class scrambling. There were a couple of spots where I started to try to go down and around the 5th class climbing only to find myself on a steep scree field. Eventually, I got up to the steep slopes below Snoqualmie that you skin up to reach the Slot entrance. Perhaps you skied one of these scree fields below one of the 5th class mov...

As an aside, the coverage is so good right now, the run from the lake back down to the trail junction was a legitimate powder run. I can't tell you how many times I've had to down skin that portion because the trail was an iced out pile of crap.

An inspiring trip report! Thanks for the tip, we took your advice on our 3rd lap of the day and enjoyed it greatly. I still have the gift you left on my car at the TH - we might consume it tomorrow night in a tent!
Definitely a great day in the hills, it was a treat to land first tracks in the Bryant with you guys.

I was a little surprised that we didn't see a single human track (snowshoe or ski) north of Roosevelt. We had sweet waterfront property all to ourselves!

Beautiful terrain and trip. That's a lot of ground to cover in 2 very short winter days! I've long wanted to get back there to camp and explore for a few days, so many cool lines in there

Man I miss the North and South backcountry of that place. I taught skiing there in the 80's when maybe only 20% of skiers had the ability to properly shred that terrain on 200+cm skinny skis.
