That's the stuff legends are made from!
Now that's some air!
Using some sophisticated time-lapse camera equipment I was able to catch the now legendary Jarvis Jump in it's entirety.  The bro clearly got some big air! 8)

nice tour, nice weather, the nicest companions!
the telemark tips Scotsman may be an imposter. He would need to prove he is a real scotsman and that he wears nothing under his kilt! ;)

My dreams have been answered! A picture of Jarvis hucking some air!

Carefull there Scottie, you might give Ron the idea that he should try the halfpipe at Whistler  ;).  It was a fantastic day with great friends.  8).
Since your handle is telemack, you may have heard of a little place known as telemarktips. The "other" Scotsman lives there. If this site allowed more pictures, I would show you one with him in a kilt. ::) ::) ;D ;D
Sahale Peak...Pretty awesome place.  Should have brought ice screws...next year!
Jessicaj:  Which summit is that? I can't tell from the report.  Good effort and way to stay cautious....

Yep, that was you.  We also saw two others earlier in the afternoon on their way up to the basin.  They had tentative plans to do the West Ridge of Forbidden, so they probably headed off in that direction.

Glad you had a good climb...
I think we ran into you on our way up as you were on your way down (late in the afternoon on the 27th) around 3800'.

Glacier conditions were spectacular on Sunday!  Pretty sure we were the only ones up there.  In some places, we walked through about a 0.5' to a foot of snow on our way up.

We made it to about 30 ft of the summit.  But it turned icy and snow became pretty hard after the ridge traverse. Couldn't get a good arrest on the snow near the final s...
It sure looked thin from the pass, but if you just make your way up the trail to the west there are quite a few sections still worth skiing, the coverage was enough that we didn't sustain any injuries whatsoever to our skis.

Also Sam expressed an interest in getting out with some TAYers (it's apparent that he's outgrown the Univ. of Puget Sound's bc crowd), so you should all hit him up at scarlson at ups dot edu (I think he may have a TAY account too, but I...
Good times and amazing snow for an october ski.  That "steeper rolling" line made for some awesome early season GS turns!

JD I'm glad we didn't find any of the bad snow conditions you were worrying about that morning!  Oh and it sounds like RAGNAR was a hit later on.
ok i'm on a roll, couple more - welcome to north western BC bros! (and bras).
hey what do you know! here's some more...
heya dave! yep it's me - great to hear you're on your way back man, gonna come work for us yet?... kidding kidding. skiing is quite good these days - i could show you if i could figure out how to post phots. quick get back to town so you can show this old ludditie how to do it. safe travels, give me a holler when you get here, we'll go out. gm.
Good one; some folks thought Chinook too thin.
Who the heck is the "other" Scotsman?  ;)
We need a new TAY logo featuring the Ron huckin' air photo!  Wow, sorry to have missed it...

Hope to see the gang for November turns!  :)
Good job, folks.  I was invited but I'm still in rockjock mode, so I settled for perfect temps. on the Upper Wall at Index.  Next turns in Nov.?
Hey NWBCer,

This is not the Dave from level one but is this the Gary who I went to Kitkatla with this summer for a day. I work for dediluke in town.

Back next week, can`t wait.

Cheers Dave
Ron!
You look 20 years younger.  Love the air shot.

Thanks, Robie! ::)

Did you see any folks heading up the Nisqually?

Another Dave, Sky, Tony, and I went up to the fixed line below the Kautz ice cliff at 11.4k.  The chute up the cliff was unskiabe, so we baked in the sun for a while then enjoyed the nice turns.  My camera USB cable is at an undisclosed location, so no pics for now.

I'll enjoy my new 'rock' skis till things fill in better.
All skis are rock skis.  ;D
The rest of the photos are now posted here.

Beautiful day! My TR's here.

If you were a part of a threesome (skis on pack sides, A-frame skis, snowboard - not the group pictured in the TR, though I've got a few of them too... ) that booted past me and up the summer trail as I scraped up the winter route just after dawn, email/PM me for photos.
I was there today... the chutes are pretty bony compared to last weekend - Matt your pics make it look more filled in that it is :-)  Hard to believe it was fall-line powder 7 days ago.
The remaining snow was great corn though.  Just a little bit of mandatory rock skiing in the gorge.

Top 1500ft of the snowfield was terrible.

We were able to ski to within 30 yards of the parking lot, with only one 20ft carry.
Yeah I know ,I wanted to put some catty words to the picture but I figured a picture is worth a thousand words!
My dreams have been answered! A picture of Jarvis hucking some air!
That one for the desktop!
Way to go Mr.Jarvis and the gang. :D
What a fun day and it was great to meet up with the other Scotsman!  We'll have to do that again.
That was an awesome day; having that whole basin to ourselves was incredible!  It kinda made me look forward to this spring and a fat snowpack with a low snowline (and a filled in NW face).
Telemon,
Thanks for the guided tour. You obviously know and love the area well. I was very lucky to bump into you and Nick in the parking lot. It was a long drive for me but so worthwhile as the views of Shuksan and Baker are so spectacular. It was a great day out and my husky, Chugach had a great day as well. :D
I got photos done soon after, but meant to write up a report for along time. Better photos late than nothing, I suppose. Slideshow with many more photos here.

A few sample photos to represent the basics

On Sunday the 28th, Lara P., Derek, Chuck R. and myself saw your tracks leading to those nice (yes, thinly-covered as well) snow fields below Table. We decided to look first to look first at the snow coverage below Mount Herman by traversing around the lake. As that proved very fruitless, we then crossed the snow patches on the lake and booted up to just below the same large rock promontory as your fotos show. We were able to put in 2 nice runs before time to head home. For such th...
Your conditions were really not a lot different than what we experienced at the end of July. Although, where you had ice on the hogsback, we had flowers. We did not have fresh powder but still enjoyed nice turns on Heliotrope Ridge. I haven't skied into the Marmot Ridge area, so that will have to be a future trip.

What do you mean Pan Face wasn't continuous?  With a clever mix of snow and "soft grass" terrain we made it down.  Sort of. :)
Can't wait for November now!

I meant to say we were unable to find a continuously snow covered line down Pan Face; we did however find a way not to remove skis from Muir to 50yds from the parking lot.

We termed the snow: Jell-O.  It was strange consistency. (full meal deal report)

New skis:  Thank goodness not yet.  They don't need that much detuning.  Unfortunately, I still haven't had a chance to get the new boards mounted.  Just as well--I'll enjoy my new 'rock' skis till things fill in better.

Snow for the first 700' down from Muir was crusty with powder beneath, and wavy rolls (hard to explain, guess you had to be there.)

The rest of the way down from 9500' was smooth creamed corn along the border of Muir Snowfield and Paradise Glacier.  Lots of melt since last week made for a few dirt and rock crossings on skis (free stone grind?)  We found Pa...
Looks wrong to me too. It is the couloir north of the labeled one.  I have only done the top 2/3rds.
It became all rock and runnel.
I probally would have been up there with ya if not for concerns concerning my new old coche. I'm glad the Chilean boarder patrol didn't end up busting you for the bandito glisse. Did you see any folks heading up the Nisqually?
Heya buddy. You know as per measurements at 5000', it could very well  be my bad. I measured at 3 or 4 locations but only within about 50m (I'll send you an email with photo attached and approx area). Thinking back that area may have been prone to wind effect indeed. Probably won't get back up there until you get back though, heading to queen charlotte, vancouver, then bloody toronto of all places :() oh well gonna catch me a puck game (habs and maple laughs) so some redempti...
Muir ,one of the great tours! And on new skis to boot ?
thanks for the report .

GARY!!!!!!!!  Great to see you here too; luddite meet neo-luddite..i can't figure the pic thing out either...got no time for further investigations...got studying to do!

Just got back from the Gorge road wrought with dissappoinment...rather than the 70+cm 's you guys got at 1400 meters, i was met with 30 on terrain that was unfriendly with 30cents....twinges of jealousy, gary, er...i mean THOR, twinges of jealousy...  Hey, that wesach 150cm was...
What a difference a week makes! From mid-winter-like last Saturday to late-spring-like this Saturday!  Great seeing the many familiar faces out there today and meeting some new folks along the way as well!
I'll try to resize/post a link to some additional pics later.

Very nice to meet you, Rusty Knees, and also to realize my neighbor down the street Robie is an avid TAYperson.

Our group had three first-year streak completions that day:  MaryG (I AM stashworth, I Am I Am!), Lisa (streak?  you guys never said anything about a streak!), and Mr_Burns (well okay, I missed November last year because I was imprisoned in Arizona while it was dumping here!)  Also completing an imressive two month streak after suffering through powder and h...
