How is it that you still to be able to ski on any given day of the week, Chris? Hopefully it will be like that for me as I start the new year unemployed.
Fantastic photo of the trees casting their backlight shadows.Similar to the recent photo in Powder magazine of the Aquille de Midi.
You got some good stuff there Eric.
Props for getting out there and getting the goods man. ;D

Is there more to this TR?

Sorry about that.
Ron we didn't start from the C lot but should have as the road leading to that lot looked  to be better covered. The road leading down to Gold Hills had been plowed by a cat and was so rocky that we hiked it!
Is there more to this TR?
Great Report, Scotty.
How much snow was at the upper C lot?
P.S forgot to add that for a lot of the skintrack both up the West side and up from the East side of the saddle, we where following elk tracks. The Elk had basically followed the summer trail and where they deviated , they set a pretty good skin track. Sure hleped Joe on the trailbreaking.
Anyway , I thought the elk skintrack was really neat. :)

Conditions were pretty stable, the cornice was really hard and seemed solid - took me a good 15 minutes of whacking with my whippet to get through.
Vis was just fine except when the flakes piled up on our goggs.
Wow! Wish the weather was that nice while we were there last weekend. It puked the whole time and vis. was not the greatest. Seems you all had amazing views of the whole range and nice windblown powder from the storm we skied in. How was the stability up there? Windslabby? Looked like you both hiked up to the Blue Peak Col, correct? Cornice stable? How were the rocks further down, anything still scraping at your bases?

Wed, Nov 21 up at Paradise & Muir snowfield.  Bluebird day, temps upper 20s to mid 30s.  Skin’d right from parking lot, snow cover adequate, good skin tracks in place along Deadhorse Creek.  Diverted at 6500’ on the approach west of Pan Point, very wind loaded area on the Skyline trail up along the ridge there, looks like small slab broke away (suspect triggered by someone trying to get up that route).  Opted to traversed across over to the bottom of Pan Pt and ascend up that way; lot...

Sorry I missed the excitement guys!

I didn't think that you would be too disappointed as it was just "Muir Snowfield again."  Anyway, we probablly wouldn't have seen you again once we started the climb.  BTW, be careful about this work thing.  It sounds like a trap to me.

I skinned from the Gondola to top of Harmony Chair then over to symphony Bow and over to flute and over.

Even though the pictures give the impression that you were in near white out vis, it sure sounds like you had better conditions than we had at Table Mountain.
Hey Joe - I wondered how it was on the Muir snowfield.  Thanks for the report.  Let me know when you've fulfilled your familial duties enough to ski again.  I'm dreaming about the next trip, too.

Don Rusty Knees
i was right behind the guy on shoe shoes as he took out the nice skin track.
the temp in the parking lot was 22 degrees @ nearly 10 am. like you say the snow was very light. did note several slides in the chutes and since i was solo opted to pass this trip. skied right side of Pan Point. you might have seen the large amounts of Avy Debri. looked like the first skier down tripped it.
found great snow continuous to the parking lot
Lee, did you ride the Gondola or hike up?

According to Whistler as of this evening, they are not planning to open the upper lifts for the balance of the week.  Absent the upper lifts, what's the best way to Flute from the Roundhouse?
Sorry I missed the excitement guys! Great TR.
Entrance to the chutes is at approx 8350 ft on Muir trail, turn 90deg.
Soon be finished with this work nonsense and ski with you again!
Rock ON! Yeahhh man!
I had to crop and zoom in on the pics in order to see anyone at all, I am a pretty terrible photographer, but at least we were getting face shots! And yup, sure looks like it's pukin'!
We went up from Rainy Pass.
Beautiful day with beautiful conditions indeed.  You early risers did an excellent job of testing stability and marking the good snow with squiggly tracks for the afternoon crowd to follow. ;)  With the forecast cold temps the conditions should stay excellent in the shade, although it will be necessary to hike a bit further than straight up from the parking lot for an untracked line.  Definitely want to watch that hoar, it's amazing how fast that stuff pops up.

Gre...
Did you go up the Procupine drainage or via Cutthroat lake?  If from the west, how is the road to Cutthroat Lake trailhead?
Hey joe, IE 6.0 and I am having the same issues with "my" video.  Maybe you can email it to me, or bring a disc next time I see you.  Had another sweet day yesterday with Kira & Dan in GV.  Just as good as the day before but more sun. ;D
Good pics!  But why are they so fuzzy?  It almost looks like it's PUKING.
Had to turn to avoid the obstacles under the snow. ;D
Hopefully I'll learn how to turn as I grow older... ;)

There was a light layer of Hoar on the surface, even this afternoon.

Was wondering if that old hoar was going to show up with the clear cold nights.
Maybe something to watch out for, especially on the north faces when the next storm cycle comes in, meanwhile great to ski!
Good Job-Thanks for the conditions report.
Joe
Nice job Carl!
That picture of you resembles something that might appear to look like a turn, I did not know that was in your repertoire? ;)
Good seeing you again, you may have Crystal all tracked out on your own before the next storm.
Joe
Gettin face shots!
Way to go Telemon!  Didn't Scotsman just get 4 years too?  Anyway, hope to see you guys sometime this winter!
The wind seemed to be coming from the north, which seems a bit odd.  Usually it is coming from the west.  Hmm, not sure how reliable I am as a source, but that's what I recall.
Great day indeed!

Sunshine and blue sky. Almost no wind. A few equipment malfunctions, but nothing a beer can't fix.

Here are a few more pics.
If I'd have followed the weather forecasting site that I have bookmarked  http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?site=sew&smap=1&textField1=48.812083333333&textField2=-121.76375  and not spent Sunday with my son, I would have been up with you, Loom, enjoying the better conditions.
I'd cross the border for snow and bluebird conditions like that. ;)
Right-on!  Sounds like a great day and some good enthusiasm.
that's brilliant man!  Nice thinking!  Yeah, let's do that.
I didn't get many action shots, but there are some nice scenics and shows great coverage from our tour to artist point on the next day, Sunday 11/18:

Congratulations to you Telemon.
way to get out there in the bad weather!!

do you remmember if the winds were sustained from any particular direction?
looks like an awesome day you guys!  way to beat the crowds up the hill too.  8)
Snoslut and Stugie,

I was thinking we could amass those vids and pics over the next two weeks or so by using a 10 dollar usb device.  I'll pick one up, mail it to both of you, load the pics on it, and send back on snail mail.  shouldn't cost more than 50cents a pop.

-Jayme
Good to meet you at Snowbash, Oyvind. So, the Portman Bowl is above Blue Lake?  I've only skied near SEW/Blue Peak.
Also, how was Rt. 20 on Sunday PM?  I'm hoping it stays open this week.
Kyle, looked like a decent day.  I'm looking to get out Sat. and Sun. as well, so is Eric I think.  We should do something...swell is looking pretty good for Saturday too...maybe surf sess then hit the pow?  Let me know...
Ya, fun ride back in all the puke, slush, rain and all!
I read somewhere that outdoorsfolks and environmentalists should generally oppose ALL
new ski runs/lifts/areas.  That was about 25 years ago.
the video works fine for me. the only problem i could tell was that i wasnt in it.
Allow me to be the first ;) to congratulate Kam & Allyson.

Not that I know them or anything, but Kam was willing to take a unknown ingredient (me) Sat. along on what was to be obviously a big day, and has been generous of his time as well. Good people, I sense. The smiles are real ;)

Telemon, my friend, I can assure you I know what authority looks like gleaming off a spit polished jack boot under the border booths lights.

Through actions that were no one else...
I can e-mail you some pics...vid of climbing through our rubble laden, half-awake, sleep deprived hike will have to wait though...i'm not sure how to get that to you yet.  Working on 2.5 hrs sleep, driving from Tacoma to Baker and back in a day, and recovering from the flu I would like to change my title of "superlight" to "electro-lyte". ;)

Jamye - I have a few more pics, but not many since I ended up not bringing the camera out much.

Eric - I...
I am a southback man myself but do love ripping thru the northback. Thank god the southback is still a pain for most to get to, I can have it all to myself while the rest ski the new chair.

Chris
I also have a mac/intel and it is not working for me It only says that I need the new version of quicktime to play it, then once I click ignore, I get two pictures, one of the snow (which I think is supposed to be a video) and you with your nice hat :)

Good for you getting out there and having some of that before it is all over. I will be weeping on opening day now that the northback will be lift accessed, thank god the southback still requires some work (or is it the other way around...
