We were back on the Hogsback on Saturday...gee, I thought it was pretty good? Were you (Jason h.) back there that day? If so, you're crew must have been the ones who started down the shoulder of the false summit just as we arrived (late, around 1 pm). Again, if so, thanks for the skin track all the way back up, and all the way in! We thought conditions were good and stayed back there till dark. We only saw what may have been your group, and a solo ski area refugee.
Neat -- so did you do a lot of your runs with the kites? That looks cool.
Dang, i wish I joined. White wasn't so great, but I should have known that.
Thanks for the pics.
Thanks for the pics.
Wow! That's the kind of snow we live for! Days like that are what it's all about. Nice pics!
eh?
So thats where the foot of new was. Sounds interesting.

Good frickin gosh!
You definetely sold your soul for those turns, but I'd say it looks worth it.
WOW.
I now officially reject buying lift tickets and am joining the Church of the Ever Carving Slut. I'll tithe the cost of a lift ticket every Sunday.

Nice Lee. Where's Brew and it's approach? What's the big one behind skis in first pic?
That was us on the way down the Tilly Jane Trail, Slo-Steve.
We were discussing you at S's Birthday/TeleSki Movie Party for M last night. Took your advice and checked out Corn Dog on the 'other' BC site. More investigation to come.
I have pictures but not sure that I can put them in this post. What is your puppies name?
Anyway, I'll see if I can get the pix up.

In the afternoon yesterday (12-2) Alpental road had been plowed but the parking lots remained untouched. I saw two cars with skiers parking on the side of the road near the Armstrong Express lift so I figured I might as well too. Alpental was ridiculously deep. Near the road, the powder was part way up my thighs with my skis on and I am 6ft tall. It was easily 5ft deep or more in places up higher and rather unstable. I heard the Alpy crew set off at least two charges for...
I definitely wouldn't go so far as to call it 'user group conflict', just that their throttles were a little more open before/when/after they passed us for comfort. As the SW side of Margaret's not yet filled in, we only interacted with them on the road up, not in the open areas. My limited experiences with snowmobilers at the Gold Creek access are invariably 90-95% positive.
Yes, a fogfest yesterday and a wallowfest today. Contrary to prior reports, we found very stable snow, with a total of 27 new over the 2 days. Its all moot now, with the 10" (!) of rain coming with the warm front. Great company, great skiing.
You've got guts, I'll give you that. I was wondering how big a dump to expect. It looks pretty heavy.
yup, that was me Greg...I thought that might've been you, but I wasn't sure.
and yeah, conditions like that make me think that rockered reverse sidecut skis in a 200 length might not be such a silly thing afterall...but then again I'm usually not trying to make turns through 3ft of unconsolidated snow on a 20 degree slope :)

Pete, was that you with the '06-'07 Verdicts/Dynafits/Megarides? My partner Kevin commented "nice skis" at the top of Summit West?
Well, I got my Audi to the Alpy parking lot, but then got stuck and had to dig it out twice getting back to the Summit. Later in the day a cat actually made a run up to the top, so there was a "groomer" to ski down!

I was wallowing up there as well -- and dumb enough to go for a second lap. Partway down on the 2nd lap -- a groomer went by leaving a narrow swath of cordoroy paralleling the Pac Crest chair.
Nice work Pete...that looks DEEP!!!

Hey Joe-
That was our group you saw on Crown Point yesterday; nice to briefly meet you. We followed your path to the saddle of pick and saw you took care of the gully shot into the drainage so we made the short trail break up to pickhandle and grabbed some nice turns on the skiers right line off of the N face of the p-h and finished with the bushwack.

I think I saw you leaving as I was arriving. We skinned up to Artist Point in a pretty good blizzard and skied off the back, west, in the trees, finding above-the-boot fluffy Pow. Decent coverage except in a gully we got stuck in where we hit rocks climbing out. Pretty stable in the trees, lovely. On the way back we were stunned to see so many people skiing east off Table Mtn despite big wind loading. We dropped off the end of ridge from Artist Point that drops into the valley just a couple hund...
A pretty busy day for the Bullion area. Allways nice to meet people off the TAY site. As Androolus, Susan, and I were skinning into the basin the north facing slope up on the point caught our eye. When we made our way to the top a couple of boarders were getting ready to dive in. Asked if they had dug a pit.....uhhh...no. Do you have a transceiver???? Uhhh.....no. We're gonna get some next week. Yikes! Turns out that things were pretty solid. Good for them and great for us. Had a fun day ex...

It was so calm when we arrived, great visibility, and cold. The car thermometer read 16F. Such amazing powder. After the last few weekend trips of hiking around with skis on our backs, and too embarrassed to report, it's great to get one of these days under our belts.
Wind and snow was really pounding in the afternoon though. The car read only 19F when we left. Tortuous drive home. There was snow acumulation on the road nearly to Eatonville. Finally we actually had to pull over a...

Love the hero powder! Great day, with lots more coming. Time to go warm up the ptex iron from the road back to the lot...
I'll second that Alpymarr. One of the best powder days Ive had at Paradise. Along with Katrina ,James Hammaker and ALpine Rose
Not so sure of the stability we opted for the Mazama Back bowl.
After whetting our whistle with some easy runs we opted for south facing 911 slopes.
I played dope on rope while JAmes belayed me for some serious jumping around on the upper steep pitch. All sticking there so we had our best run of the day. Extra Blue wax made short work of the re...

Pete,
That may have been your group that we saw as you were resting South of Crown point. We were headed to Pick and asked if you had any test pit info on SW aspect.
We skied the SW aspect down to Fog and the wind picked up while the ceiling lowered and called it good. Nice ski and bushwack down to Gold Hills ending with a great run all the way to the rig.
Thanks for the skin track assist to help our portage to Crown, sure beats busting especially after the previous couple days o...

Nice video! Marcus is The Big Smooth.
What's up heart attack! You living in the city these days? You getting out?
Shit dude, I've lived in four mountain ranges since we last got out together. This is pretty stoked up here though, the ice field in the back yard is 3200 square miles, the salmon is fresh and the snow is fresher. Could stay for a while. Oh and I got me a wife!
Be cool dude, send me a note and tell me what you're up to these days.

Jimmyclimbs... long time no hear!! You living up in AK now?
Today a few friends of mine are getting their first turns of the year (and hopefully it didn't take them too too long to drive to their various destinations... cuz it's snowing all over, including Seattle!!) Almost two inches so far in West Seattle here.
I was hoping to go this weekend but came down with a nasty cold a few days ago :(.. oh well, hopefully next weekend...

Thanks for the report, Drew. Let me know when you are going Rusty Knees; maybe we can link up.
One of the things that keeps me interested in ski camping when there just are not going to be many turns is the joy of thinking of easier ways to do things. It seems that every trip I think something. Sometimes the ideas work, sometimes not. This week and last I tried out my new plastic-bag-for snow-to-melt-for-water-holder-opener. I have no idea what it should be called. And it worked great too. Yes, really. :)

Very nice pictures, that might have tipped the scales for me to head up there next. Thanks.
Sounds like you had a bit more snow than we had down at Hyak. We almost chose your area. Catch you next time!
Yes thanks very much. I am thinking about an early am trip up summit central and a pop over the back side Sunday AM, but looking at the forecast a little worried about those long road delays on I-90.
Larry, thanks for the report. I'm heading up there tomorrow with JM for a short first ski of the season. As for the wondrousful new mansions along beautiful Lake Cle Elum, I can only say that they will figure prominently in next year's line of fine art paintings.
Was up in Green Valley taking laps in the bowl and West Face with final run down Iceburg. All north, west and east slopes were stable. No sluffing either. In GV you could kick your board out a bit and give yourself body shots on demand. From the top it was a no turn zone until you got 50 feet below the ridge line. Still boney up top. West Face was money. Supa deep. Iceburg, you couldn't go full speed and carve too hard. Very few people up here today. Not what I was expecting. ...

Thanks for the info..how did herman look?
I am assuming that, by "Herman" you mean Bagley Mountain? Herman is the mountain behind Bagley that hosts "The Stoneman". That run still needs another 20' of snow to be skiable.
Bagley has a couple of lines open, most noticably the Cornice Gully. The Rock Garden is a long way from...
Sweet wreckage pic!
I did that myself today. :)

Nice dude! That looks like a good time for sure...and its still falling!
Crystal opens tomorrow... Well at least the queens chair will be open.
The shoulder was the best snow of the day like always... I couldn't find a rock but Tara did... ::)
Skied it today and yesterday and it was blower... ;D
