Nice work finding some good ol' concrete! I am yearning for more of it... bring it on, however high the water content may be!
Am I too late for the feats of strength?
Maybe I need to cash in some frequent flier miles and head to Grenoble...

Thanks for the TR. Please keep sending stoke from the continent when you can.

Sweeet!!!  All that sunshine and fresh pow...definately the place to be!  It was nice meeting you both!  Our grand plan turned into a grand work out with very few turns, so you didn't miss anything (except lots of rocks everywhere :p  ) by staying at Muir Snowfield.  Way to get after it!

Way to get great conditions up there savegondor to get pow and sunshine on muir is few and far between.

seems like  the pattern that sets up muir for pow pow are those more northerly fronts that come from the Queen Charlettes and drop strait south with Winds out of the West instead of the Southwest.  Then storms more often end calm and cold instead of...

Nice to meet you too!! I'm sorry you didn't reap the harvest we did.  But then Karma is probably at play here. :)  Give me a clear day and I'll be where you were in a slit second...looks like good scenery to boot!

Somebody musta been reading your mind (or reading TAY)---I just heard on the radio news that someone has asked for permission to erect a Festivus pole at the capitol...

Second that.  NPR this morning.  In response to the Nativity and the Athiests...a festivus pole.

Ditto, our group of four made it to Pebble Creek on Sunday, after almost being blown over multiple times by gusty winds, salvaged a couple turns and beat feet back to the car.
I'm definitely jealous...  I was up there Sunday and there was almost zero visibility above Pebble Creek and wind that almost knocked my partner and I down a few times.  Looks like a perfect day up there!
Sunday was the day of the runs "that shall live in infamy".
C'est bien, Marq. Bon courage et ne tuent pas te.
modified because I did not realize it was on a sunday... makes sense now!

Festivus for the rest of us!
... maybe we should see about installing a Festivus Pole at the state capitol?

Oh yeah, I LOVE FESTIVUS!  I can't wait to sit around at the family dinner and tell all of my family members all the things that I think they should improve or work on!
Sweet pics. It looks like you had a great time!
Were you Backcoutry skiing?
You probably know this, but watch out the extremely skechy snow conditions these days. Within the last 2 week-end 5 people died in avalanches (including 3 very experienced italians extreme skiers) and more than 10 heli rescues were done just yesterday.
Festivus for the rest of us!

... maybe we should see about installing a Festivus Pole at the state capitol? I'm sure there are plenty of people who would like to air their grievances.  We could put it right between the manger scene and the atheist plaque. Bill O'Reilly would have a field day!
You're in France skiing powder and I'm getting my sorry ass dragged to the Tacoma Glass Museum by the wife so I can get some "culture" and there is no snow.
Life is not fair!

Could you adopt me please!
Yeah Scoot that's because we both have a lot of grievences!

I got my Fetivus pole .

Robie I didn't know you where a Festivus devotee! Me too.!!! My favourite part of Festivus is " the airing of the greivances". Such fun. I love Festivus!
Must ..... remain ..... calm ..... will ....snow ..... here .....too....someday

Kudos a le dirtbag francais.  nice photos

Looked at telemetry instead of cutting wrists.  Crystal starting to build base!?
Great pics! Makes me want to visit the Alps again. Maybe you could take a minute or two and post a couple of your favourite pics here instead of cross posting. Hope you have solid season over there!
Nice Robie,
I was up there last week and there was very little snow (patches).
The road was hennas, with wet ice the last 1/4 mile to the trailhead.
Glad you got in some glide time.
Four of us skied the route the week before you guys, in possibly slightly better conditions. Three went to the summit, one had the good sense to spend the day harvesting powder lower on the mountain. The expanses of blue ice at the Lunch Counter were pretty impressive. One of us was able to make a complete go of it from summit to the base of the Crescent without clicking out, but the rimey traverse was far from pleasant. In addition, one of us took an eye-opening 1-200 vf sliding fall on the way...
Added map for bedal access info - see topic:

Added Map: (FS 4096 does not appear on some maps)

Updated from scouting in Nov '08, The trail is also in good shape up to at least 3000' (near the start of the glades). There has been sporadic volunteer maintennence since we skied it in May. With a decent snowpack, should be able to ski/skin from here. The trail is not the best for skinning, but is brush free, and as of the cleared of most of the smaller blowdown.

25cm new snow over night. some wind loading on north, northeast aspects. a lot of people out but not many in the alpine. I hooked on with a group of 3 from Calgary and toured up Balu Pass. Pits revealed storm snow instabilities and an easy shear at 40cm with the new load. Ski'd low angle aspects from the pass, with heavier density snow really making it slow. Bailed after 3 trips up and saw a pretty large slide path that had release and slid through the trail up. Lots of peop...
Sounds like you gave that place a good Rogering! :D :D ;)
Man, that's some spectacular terrain!
Great trip guys!!! Your trip so much like ours to Adams a few weeks prior, but the ice sounds even worse. Ha. Still looks like good fun. Pics and all from everyone are great additions.
Very very nice :D

Now I know what I shoulda done yesterday... :'(
Great report, glad that the trip was fun!  I agree:  My joy-o-meter works like such -

Company + fun = 100% on the joy-o-meter
Thanks for the conditions update! Glad you had fun!
I think only Pandora & Amar understand the kind of skin showing I'm referring to, as well as a couple of others from that 'HOT' day on Baker.  HAHA

I was showin some skin when the sun was out.  I tried to get Amar to join, but he wasn't persuaded.

Imagine that...  ;D  I was wondering if indeed the weather substantiated wearing a tank top.  I would not have thought it to be that warm this time of year.
Nice trip folks!  Well done.

What, no topless antics on such a bluebird day?  What gives?  ;)

Nice work Hannah, Amar & Dave.  I'd have to say with 50' skids after each turn, my balls would have definitely shrunk to nothing.
more great skiing in Rogers Pass, version 12.4.2008 = Asulkan
It was empty compared to the Balu Pass area, only a few cars in the lot, and I only saw two other skiers.  Clouds moved in in the afternoon, and the area got dark and cold fast.  More snow on the way.

Hi Amar,
Thanks for your nice and detailed report. Veronika and I were the 2 skiers that you met near the summit. Nice seeing you guys up there, and I am glad that everyone went down fine on this tricky terrain.

We did a slow 2.5 days long trip to this summit, from friday afternoon to sunday which turned out to be a necessary given the poor conditions on saturday morning (high wind and rain), which prevented us from even attempting to summit that day. Instead we took our time an...

North Cascades skiing...land of the Plan B.
We should try for one trip before Christmas?
Yes, agreed- nice TR. Glad you all made the most of a nominal november snowpack. Keep those great TR's coming.

Chris
Nice TR Amar, thanks for writing it up. It was great to ski with you and Hannah.

The first photo is Amar skinning with Hood in the background.

Second is Amar and Hannah on top of Piker's Peak with ice sculptures

Third is Hannah testing her edges just below Piker's Peak

Great TR, well written with nice pictures! :)
I'm waiting for new snow, but tempted to go poke around this weekend around Rose...
Thanks for the photo. I'm not digital yet. That run is definitely a classic slope for instability. I typically ski the area to the left and lower, Proletariat, which doesn't have the wide flat area (and wind-loading).
The only fatality up in this area was about 7 years ago, when one of the chutes (at Mt Rose resort) went, and the person was ragdolled through the terrain trap (of trees). That was unfortunate, he even worked at the resort.
          Back to Hourglass -...
Hey skimtner. I don't know if you remember this, but this is the Hourglass run a few years back. It went fairly large. You can also see a slab that ripped out in the foreground. I skied there quite often when it was raining in other parts of the Tahoe Basin. Be careful with that C&H!!
