Mmmmm, that's better... thanks!  Bring some of that stuff down south.
Sorry. I was just blown away by the terrain, views, snow, access, etc. etc.
Last night brought about 15cm of new snow, and cold temp's definitely dried out the existing snowpack.  Met a fellow in parking lot who was also heading up solo, and we toured up to Balu Pass.  As we gained elevation, the snow got deeper, and softer.  Hit the pass and wandered up the 8812 ridge.  Good snow, good day.  More tomorrow.  Shit, I have the next month off...where am I goi...
You gotta give up a little more than that...
Thanks for the report... it gives me hope that Ymir outside Nelson will actually have some snow over New Year's!
Cool.  Nice meeting you.

That's amazing that you were able to ski the whole way down to the trailhead.

We weren't quite as skilled  :'(  ;)

And to think that for a moment on Sunday morning, I was tempted to go back to bed and put my streak to rest.  Now, at 122 months, I am renewed in my zeal.  Yay Tahoma!

Man!  10 years and two months.  And so young...you must have been 12 when you started. ;D  I'm betting your streak will now be safe until next July or August.  Reset your goal for 240.  Let me know w...
Great tr- thanks for finally posting and no longer just lurking. I would love to get out there and ski some of those slopes. We were just up the road a ways from you in the blue lake drainage (see tr) on that same day and mentioned how lucky we were to get such good weather when seemingly everywhere else was socked in. I too wish there was more daylight... please let it snow!
I was a bit late to the party, since my friend Vic was still enroute from Corvallis where his beloved Beaver's Coug'd it on saturday.  He finally got back to the 'claw about 8:30, a little bleary, worse for wear and tear.  I wasn't really looking forward to yet another Muir slog with 500 of my closest friends, but it turned out to be a great day.  Yes, I did run into Rusty Knees on top of Moon Rock and ended up making some turns with Wolfs (nice to meet you).&n...
Yes indeed, that was us. And I'm glad we talked to you. I'm not sure we would have motivated to go had it not been for your positive report.

Also, I'm glad you posted that picture. I was wondering what the views were like from up there...
If anyone is planning on throwing Mike Gauthier a going away party, bring lots of Crown Royal....it's his favorite!  He will be missed on the mountain by many others as well as myself... :'(

Got to meet Kurt Hummel and some of his White Pass posse back at the car.  The afternoon clearing and firey sunset made for great photos.

From Gregg's photos I see a few I recognize, our own Monica and Michael Jackson; way to get after it!!  I used to spend many a Thanksgiving with friends at Whistler and have not been to Rogers Pass since '98, g-damn I need to get a life!!!

Thanks for the inspiration!!  Great Asulkan cabin shots.  It makes me want  to move out of this god forsaken endless gray city we call Seattle and move north.  My heart has always been in the mountains and I often wonde...
Ron and Jeanette were also sighted early on the hike in, and not again, perhaps off to some secret stash with their own liquid refreshment instead of the free stuff at Muir.  We skinned with Pete and Becky for a while too.  Got to meet Kurt Hummel and some of his White Pass posse back at the car.  The afternoon clearing and firey sunset made for great photos.
Scotty, Jen & Jerry,

Thanks for the open invitation! I've sent it on to Julian as he's the coastal dweller and the most likely to be in your neck of the woods. Likewise if you ever need some local snow info/places to stay for the Alberta/BC Rockies just let me know.

Cheers,
Tim (aka thomasgoot)

Damn, what a day on the mountain!

Myself (Stephen), Rusty Knees (Don), Joe, Moscawulf (Brad), skee17 (Nick), balexand (Brian), and Silas (silaswild?) headed down with expectations of "It's a nice day to be out" kind of day, but we were in for a treat.  Great weather all day, had to hike to just above Pebble Creek and slick skinning up to Muir.

And yes at Muir, there was the often dreamt about (but seldom materializing) free beer and as an a...
Andy, you've got a lot bigger streak to keep alive -- almost 12 years? looks like Sunday was a great day from the nice sunset shots posted.
I'm down to go if there is a posse...
Great reports and great photos. Anybody making a return trip for Christmas? Maybe?  :)

Edited in response to Stugie: I'm your huckleberry.
Gregg C thanks for the photos from the Alkusan side of the pass. One day in Washington and I want to go back! It's only 9 hours, if I left now I could be there by dawn......mmmmmm!
Great video and some lovely skiing from an obviously very experienced crew.
It was a prolific day! Thanks Mike for the tasty beer!

On the way out we captured these pictures of the sunset:

Glad to see others are discovering the joys of early season Selkirk Powder. The 4th Annual Bellingham TurkeyPowfest was held at the 7,000 ft. Asulkin Cabin. A freakin' good time was had by all. Pictures and crappy video here. Enjoy.

Great photos, Gregg.
Don it was good to meet you guys again. I took three friends up to Muir for their first time up, we all had a good ski down.
Way to go on keeping the streak alive.

Glad you got some nice turns in.  I think snoslut and I talked to you as we were getting back to the trailhead on Thursday afternoon.

Thanksgiving (11.27.08) was quiet up there.  We were lucky to have blue skies and boot top pow in the gullies off the peak above the lake.  No mank and no rocks!

Hey Chris, thanks for the photos.  I'm Robert, the 3rd kiter that was up there with Nick and Dan, but I stopped about 1000 feet lower than they did.  Here's our trip report and some more photos - http://www.pskite.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2263&start=40#p14815
This was our first try kiting the snowfield. The forecast that day was for E10 at Paradise, and S15 at Muir.  We were hoping for S15 for the entire area above pebble creek, but didn't get it. ...
Nice job Mike and Brenda! Way to go above and beyond to get in some turns, glad the car and you two made it out okay. I venture you are not the only two to have some rock action this weekend- it sure does need to snow!!

Wondering when I am going to bump into the two of you again :)

Chris
It was a good day being in the mountains and meeting people that I have been talking to for years now and seeing others that I share a significant bond with. I must admit this was the first time that I drank at a social gathering at 10,000 feet and it was in great company.

We have something very special here and it was apparent yesterday at the Muir shelter
Being brand new and on my first tour with a TAY group, I couldn't of hoped for a better day. Great skiing, great people, and a mini-farewell party for Mike at Muir. AWESOME! Thanks to Rusty Knees for bringing me along.  To everyone else: "Hi, my name's Nick, I'm into skiing".
I guess I was the lucky one I didnt hit a single rock, But I did hike the entire trail back in the dark though.

Pretty adventuresome, you guys!  I heard you were out somewhere.  Nice pictures and videos!  It's hard to believe you didn't rock your bases, judging only by looking at some of those pictures with rocks strewn about.  Compared to your trip, ours was a walk in the park... MRNP that is.

I also confess- I have three huge gouges on both skis! It was worth...
So sad to hear that Mike is leaving us! Any plans for a Fond Farewell get-together? I need to shop in advance for the perfect outfit :)
Forgot to put in my report - the boys did build a kicker on the last ridge above Pebble Creek.  Zach tried the alley-oop 270 a few times, but couldn't rotate it past 180.  The boys spent most of the afteroon with jackets off enjoying the warm weather.  That would be lovely in May, but not November!

Gato here, skinning was good from Pebble Creek.  Definitely some of the best conditions on the snowfield I've ever skied.  Ran into loads of good people, kept the fires stoked.  That crazy sunset and weather totally beat my expectations.

How has nobody mentioned the FREE BEER given to us at Muir?!!!  Thanks, Mike.  Sad to see you go but glad you're our face in Congress.

Looks pretty good considering !
I dig Brenda's hat. :)
I confess---we all hit rocks repeatedly.  We were just psyched enough that our memories blocked out the bad times.... :)

For Mack- the first slope topped out at 7,300 feet and the top of the couloir was 7,400 according to my gps track map. Looking over the topos for this area makes me want to go back really soon.

Chris
Joined the fun with Aligato and a couple of non-TAY friends.  Great to see everyone and a beautiful day on the mountain.

Kyle Miller and I were up there.  We ran into Zack(alope) and co., a familiar face, along with some others.  My high point was 9500' due to me waiting with a guest who had been brought with but got sick.  :(  However, definitely some of the best corn conditions...too bad it's June snow conditions in November.  Pics later (some sunset ones too...I agree, one of the best sunsets I have ever seen)

*Edited to spell Zack's name right...lol
We dropped just the one couloir.  Posting a tr about our weekend of turns later tonight w/ pics.  It was good pow early Friday - we started out shortly before noon.  However, you could feel the snow getting heavier and the climate warming, so by the time we dropped down, it was mank.  We climbed up to the top at 7400' (myself about 75vf below) and dropped in.  There were previous tracks and a boot pack that led about 1/3 of the way up the couloir until we had to sta...
Hey Freightrainer, send that first picture to telemarktips.com  That has coverpage rollingstone rockstar potential.
Sounds like a sweet trip!  Thanks for the info on Rogers Pass, sounds like it would be a sweet destination!  Nice huck!
Clintster was there with 2 friends. Big crowd! Here's some pics of the ascent before my battery crapped out: http://www.zoomin.com/AlbumViewV1.aspx?AlbumGuid=17e497e5-e4ed-4a7a-b40f-3598be1d1624&Type=public
Yeah Kyle, nice line selection.  I saw from the head of the valley at least one set of tracks on the upper section just below the col.  Did you get more turns elsewhere?

Surprisingly there are many routes filled in enough to ski already.  The rain Friday night didn't help the consistency any but in should consolidate nicely and be ready to receive the next round.  (rock skis may still be in order)  My thanks again to Mack and Chris for a fun trip.   Maybe next time Chris won'...

Goos show guys.

Thanks Ron, my cornice huck is not quite as spectacular as the famous " Jarvis Jump" but I'm trying! :)

For those that have never been, here's a short Rogers Pass primer.

Pass is at about 4,300 ft and in some of the most steep, spectacular avalanche terrain I have ever seen. There is a hotel at the pass called...
