Coolio, Jeff and Lyles!  Tatoosh prob'ly was a better intro. than getting to the Flett with Chris's old heavy planks.
Welcome, Jeff,
Perfect destination for your first tour. Chris is a great mentor.
We'll watch for more of your adventures.
congrats on your first outing, great tr. Look forward to reading many more.
Nice tourr and info., Don  :)
Jerry, thanks for the great company and for being our official photographer!
What?  Who said anything about me wanting a leasurely day?  ???  I'm just perfecting the 2009 arm chair ski mountaineering position.  That's alot of dust on those skis.
Great trip!  Unbeatable weather, incredible scenery and exactly the right size of crowd.
See some more pics  here http://www.flickr.com/photos/9668224@N03/sets/72157621755213254/show/  which I'm having difficulty getting to order correctly.
Nice photos, Amar!  You've let the feline out of the sack about the big mellow to the east of the Muir conga line.   ;D   Along with persistant summer skiing, the snow quality in this lee region is often better than the snowfield in mid-winter.  The ice coverage is definitely much smaller than the maps show.   The two icefalls and the lower Cowlitz look alarmingly thin.

Your fifth photo from the lower Cowlitz brought back the day in the late 70's RMI's Andy Politz pushe...

I totally missed the optimal window this year, which is to have snow almost but not quite down to the parking lot (filter out the sleds).  I think the way to do it is the set aside the last two weeks in June, make no conflicting other plans, and the first great weather forecast, go for it.  Such a good plan, I will do it next year, for the Squak.

BTW I was looking across at the Squak, which sure does look like a nice line, much more direct than Easton, and I was wondering th...

Keith, Did not ski the headwall and kicking myself for not doing it. Also, I have several photos I will be sending your way soon.

cjm720 congrats on 33 months.

Thanks for the picture! Sorry I didn't hook up with you on Saturday. Did you ski the headwall? On Saturday morning I was just hurting too much and knew if I did go over there I would hurt alot more.

The snow was superb and smooth corn on the steeper sections but suncupped on the lower, flatter areas--but very soft and manageable. Bugs were BAD. Take some juice. The skiing...

Thanks Chris.
Fortunately I look debonair without them too.  ;D

Indeed!

Tough break; sounds as if you had a bug before you left.
So did you camp at Mowich Lake while waitng for your adventuring friends?  How is that campground?  Is it horribly skeeter-and-bee infested?

the mosquitoes and black flies are out in force
No, I got out pretty quickly.  I'm glad, too, because by 8PM I was a quivering mass of goo.  But yeah,I'm not the only one in my office at home today.

Didn't see too much of the camp except that it was very crowded.

Here are Snowbell's photos from the 14th and 15th.  When we were up there it looked like only a few other tracks this season.  Maybe some of them were tracks from Mr. Helmstatder; I wonder if the rest of the Edmonds Headwall team descended through Spray Park.

Did anyone happen to find my sunglasses?  (Bolle)  I believe that they fell off my pack when I transitioned in the snow to boot up to Knapsack.  They should have been just to the left of Snowdawg's head in the above photo.
Thanks.

Damn dude, those where killer sunglasses and you looked so debonair in them. I hope you get them back.
Great photos on your blog Keith.  Mack and I left the face of Pleasant clean for you.  We thought, "Keith will be up here soon no doubt.  We had ought to leave him a fresh line or two."  Thanks again for turning me on to that tour last year.  Knapsack is a bit grueling with overnight packs but it is short enough to forget soon after.  (for my knees anyway ;))

Nice meeting Andyski in the parking lot and running into...
ripper report,

don't hang em yet - ski the arapahoe or the navajo!
I use a Pentax Optio W60 when skiing, because I want to to able to shoot photos without inconveniencing my partners and I don't ever want to worry about waterproofness.
Sorry that I couldn't join you (I had a great high school reunion, though). Squak or Easton to the summit is on my must-do lists for next late June/early July.

super cool pic of Dave in sequence -- thanks for sharing and look'n good Dave!
- it don't get much wetter than the 'Pineapple' slamming into the NW. And the (summits) are getting rime-plastered with 'summer snowpack'.
  glad you appreciated the rpt.
Cool! Thanks for that. I was the moron who took the line directly above the big rock lookers left. Hope you had a great trip.
Just got a Canon G10, 14 megapixels, wide angle, 5X optical zoom, compact, all for $400, can't beat that IMO.
I think Lou Dawson lost any credibility he had with skiers in the northwest when he described the Cascades as "wet and scrappy".
We were on Little Tahoma Friday (17th) - without skis unfortunately. We were envious of the skiers who left the great tracks from the top of he snow ramp to just above summerland.
Nice line!
Photo attached of tracks still visible (but raised) loking down from about 10,500.
- Mr Miller,  I am also a Miller and my brother/fam. are from Portland.

That's an excellent rpt., I 'll have to read again about the 'crux'.  The shot of the  Jack's and Jefferson, and the chute looking down is a great angle. I hope you see this reply - once again, great rpt.,    Rob  (Reno, NV)
Hey Andy

Here are pics I took of you and your partner yesterday going off the headwall taken from the summit of Mt. Pleasant. Around 2:45 pm.
On top and at the bottom.
Great report as usual - thanks!

enjoy.
OK, I guess I'm glad I'm not the one who said it, but it was damned funny.

But here's the real reason for my post ~ while I don't think there is this sort of thing around here, if there was, though, Kyle might get my vote for 2009 TR King.  A lot of guys have had great trips and some have put up eloquent TRs but Kyles' have had that extra sense of enthusiasm and adventure that I look forward to readng, and lord knows he's really been getting after it...
Let him be you Snoqualmie types!

It's O.K. Kyle.

Tell us about some of the other things you've been analizing.

Nice -- I'm surprised there's continuous snow that low still.

The skin on the way up however was an inferior experience wrt a tele set up.

How so?  That's not an observation one usually hears in the Tele/AT debate...

I dont have ski crampons, so on the steeper sections it helps to have tele bindings when planting an edge....

Sweet!  I haven't been to the Flett/Russell, but it's definitely on the list - sounds like a gorgeous area.  Thanks for the TR.
Nice Amar!  We skied the Fryingpan on the 13th and 14th and saw your tracks on Little Tahoma from Whitman Crest.  That line looks nice, congrats on skiing your goal!  Your tracks were still plainly visible from Whitman Crest on Tuesday morning....

Well composed, funny, poignant at times.  It's cool how the solo trips often give a more unique perspective on things than when we do & talk with our partners.
Excellent read...
Returned to Paradise glacier 7-16-09. Entrance off Anvil, is thin (picture). Snow above rock outcrop is pretty choppy, but quite nice below. Lots of goats on hike out. The ski in Edith Creek basin is discontinuous, and annoying.
Damn spell checker
Looks like Ive been hanging out in Enumclaw too much lately  ;)
Doh!  I was too late!  As I was reading this I was working up my funny response but it looks like I got scooped. This is what I was going to say -

"You're lucky you're in the progressive Northwest, i've heard it's still illegal to analize anything in at least 13 states"

Seems like you've been getting after it this year.  Nice photos as always!
"I analized the weather for hours..."
I just spit beer out my nose...
