Nice job.  It does show how the once-a-month thing is a bit arbitrary (Wow! 2 months of skiing in only 2 days!  ::) ) but that is the game we play.
Why not stay at Mowich until September 1?  I'll come up for turns and help with the beer.  ;)
Nice work! That snow looks pretty smooth - even smoother than it was a few weeks ago.
By September, it won't matter which side of the mountain we start, we will all end up skiing the same patch of snow somewhere around the summit plateau, so we will see each other.
Nice stuff, Lyles.  Much longer runs than I got at Sunrise yesterday!

If Mosetick and Dan Engel post replies, then this TR will be a virtual reunion of our ascent
last July.  8)
Hey Chris, I love your pictures.  Seems that scenery is worth the walk even at this time of year.  Sorry we didn't catch up this time being on the other side of the mountain,
Looks like you guys had a blast out there!!  After what I was forced to endure on Saturday morning and afternoon, I would have given anything to be out there with you guys!! I hope there will be something good left on Sunday. I am thinking about a pilgrimage out there then.
Wow, that's some narrow snow finger skiing!  Probably has a creek under it, too.
I also wondered what was left after our shock/horror heatwave last week. After bailing on the Sholes idea after turning the corner above Camp Kiser we explored the unnamed lake south of camp on Sunday. Skied several chutes and snowpatches north of Point 5726 and west of Point 5847 adding up to about 1,700 feet. A very pleasant day out, but you have to wonder about September! Looks like I missed you guys by one day.

Nope, I was the only one crazy enough to lug skis that far. Not enough time after surveying to grab the summit, looked well within reach though.

Hope you all ended up getting out and having fun. Flett?

A man of few words. I like it. You absolutely killed it. That's a ton of work.
Just an added note... bug spray. Definite requirement for the area!

Travertine has covered the Saturday portion of the trip very well. My son,Gabe, and my buddy, Tom K.(who is known by several members of the TAY community) arrived at the Artist Point parking lot late Friday afternoon (last day of July). Tom has decided to make his first "turns all year" year in celebration of entering his 7th decade, so we hiked up to the east end of Table Mountain and played on the snow until Tom hit 1,000 vf.

Through out the next day I couldn't help t...
Cool, Chris.  Brad said you were up there helping out!  Way to get July & August turns.  Thanks for the pictures!  Beautiful.  No other skiers?  No summit?  Ah well.  Good on yah!
Don, Brad and Holly hit it July 31st, followed by myself, Kyle and Jill.  Lots of suncups, but still lots of fun.  Hiking out on Saturday was incredible...not only how much of that area is in full bloom right now, but also how many hikers there were on trail.  We probably passed near 40 people on trail on the way down!  Yeah, I've taken to calling it the Flett snowfield as well!
A super rewarding experience to say the least. I'm still living in Montana but like I said, I couldn't resist the temptations after seeing the earlier post from the Mowich to drive and sample myself. Here's a couple of other shots from the trip. Can't wait to get back next year and hopefully a little earlier when the conditions are really good!

Outstanding backyard for all of you living in close proximity to these gems.

Nah, just keep telling yourself you have a legend in your back yard! No need to come out to the PNW. FWIW, Sierra corn is the cob-nobbingist!!

sierra corn? so i have heard. furthest south i have skied is in the bend area of oregon.

I think the record USFS count of people in Tux on a single day is 4,000.

that would be a day with a very crowd drawing race event that take place up there most april's on a weekend at the peak of most folks once a year annual pilgrimage to ski the legend. i think the most people a saw in there this season on the many occasions i passed through as an access...

...from one Don to another, can we just go confirm my suspicions?

That's clearly the easiest solution, Don, of course after, you "cross your heart and hope to die" with the Stash Mantra :)
I think the record USFS count of people in Tux on a single day is 4,000.
Crowds in New England? Unbelievable.
OK, between JW's "corrupted" part of a video, the well-cropped Picasa pix, and meeting Amar when he let it slip that some of these characters were in the vicinity at the Stash a couple weeks ago, I think I'm getting this pretty well triangulated, right between Mt X, Mt Y and pt Z.  But from one Don to another, can we just go confirm my suspicions?
Kyle, it has been great reading about your summer adventure and great quest of the volcanoes. If there is reincarnation, I hope to follow your tracks. Last time I was at Old Snowy was too long ago, and it was a dry pile of rock in late summer, and we were scrambling up in during a 50 miler backpacking trip when I was leading, or chasing, Boy Scouts. i remember camping at a lake called Mosquito Lake, and realizing too late that there was probably a reason. No waterfalls to drink from, just still...

I would jog until my knees couldn't take it anymore then hike for a few minutes then presume my jogging until meeting up with Alex about a mile from the trailhead.

Dude - Kyle, you're an animal.  Nice work getting out and still getting some turns.  I was oogling that area from the east side of Rainier earlier this month.  Looks like beautiful cou...

Tons of traitors here[...]
Hey,

Thanks for the report and I definitely love the first pic!
It reminds me of a  very good time there too, last year. We saw that line too, but we went on the left side of it, to first ski the NE slopes and then the N couloir that zig-zags under the spire leading to the summit.
This is were I learnt what summer skiing really is in the Cascades, with a pefect corn on steep terrain at 12pm in the end of J...
Nice imagination. Maybe the next time Sky gets chilly I'll coax him into dropping a different aspect and rejoining me while I wait at the top. Or  maybe I'll join-sounds pretty rewarding to experiece that much of a mountain in such great ways. Anway, I saw a slide show by you (Kristoffer) years ago in Bozeman. You  living out here now,  or just sampling the goods?
The Glacier Peak is a special area. I've enjoyed these photos & trip report along with the recent one from the Olympics. There's just a real "soul" your trips instead of the agro CascadeClimbers TRs.

Certainly not a bad photo in the bunch but the photo of turns with the lillies @ White Pass is tops. Just awesome!..
wow!

great stuff. loved the pics. looks pretty darn smooth from where i sit. loved, the just hangin out pic especially. nice pace to be.

Robie, do you mean the "Margarita ala glaceau" or the relaxing pace?  Both of which I could really get used to.  Besides, you and I can never quite get our dance cards synched up :(  Let's keep trying...

thanx for all the cool vids - i like the one of you skiing the diagonal in huntingtons. i really want to check that ravine out some time.

be careful, Don the ways of Jarvis /MAdog  can be addictive. See looked what happened to JW ! Do not let yerself get spoiled in this fashion!
Hmmm, no, although we did hike down "en echelon", Ron didn't tell that one.  Maybe you could "show me that joke" some day.  ;)

Fun videos - love the shot of you hiking up that trestle... or is that an east coast escalator for back country skiers?

that is a pretty cool shot. the cog railway still takes passengers via steam engine up the west side of mt washington to the summit. it also offers very easy, as in, over 3000 vert in about an hour or less, on foot, to access to one of the mos...
Why do I even attempt to write up my little day trips?  Kyle and Jason, you guys are really amazing.  Thanks for sharing with the old wannabees on this website.  Just so you know, this was a three beer armchair ski mountaineering trip for me, and I enjoyed every picture, every phrase (especially " a stillness only broken by the overwhelming roar of Boulder Creek."),  and every cold sip of it.  If I had more brews in the fridge, I'd read it again!  An inspiration.  I hope wilder st...
Artist Point is open.

I am sure someone can comment on the nuances of sun cups ... but in the case of where I skied on Sholes they were definitely firm (not frozen hard) even though it was a rather warm (and humid) day. Sometimes sun cups can be slushy and you carve through most of each cup on each turn so it doesn't matter (to a point) how big the they get. This was not the case on Saturday - you bumped along reducing the fun of each turn. The steeper areas of the glacier were m...

- I'm wondering how the cups got firm. It seems a bit early to become firm, as you guys have been getting hot weather. I could see if a cold front came through, and cooled the West Coast down (which it eventually will).

Nice work Kyle -- I'll be picking your brain next spring for this one :)
Thanks for the TR. Is the Artist's Point road open?
