"even wilder stuff next year". Holy cow what are you planning Kyle as you and Jason have done some amazing stuff this year?
Congratulations to you both. Great read and pictures.
Almost makes me what to take my skis for a hike.
I am planning on following a similar route on August 1st. Hopefully this heat wave will not destroy the snow pack significantly.
Killer TR Kyle, nice work! sounds like a helluva suffferfest.
fkna! HARDCORE!! nice work fellas.
Day 4 A Hope of a better tomorrow
I was awoken by the noise of Jason getting his gear together; he had woken up early in the morning to watch the sunrise alpenglow over Glacier Peak. The day before we had both showed interest in skiing the massive aesthetic colouir on Ten Peak that hovered above us and he asked if I still wanted to do so. I knew that the conditions were going to be somewhat ske...

Loved the video.  Suprised you didn't hit the bridge gap.

thanx, ya fun day for a few turns in the sun on a beautiful day. the snow was so delicious! one thing we generally don't get here is less than stellar corn snow.

the snow bridge was fun to look at, but would've been super sketch to cross.

maybe i'll post a vid or...

Tons of transplants here, so tux isn't exactly an unknown quantity. Glad you got some good summer turns in. Every once and a while I miss watching naked drunks in rear entry boots do the headwall, but then I realize I get to ski real lines in July and quickly recover.

transplants out there from here? no! ;D

ya, tux can be quite the $hit show at tim...
Hey cool!  Obviously I didn't recognize you....
Loved the video.  Suprised you didn't hit the bridge gap.

You're preaching to the choir, Tucks is the boss.

A six mile approach is nothing for a guy who is willing to dig trenches for two days ...that's earning your turns!  Good on ya.

The work wore him out a lot more than any mountain has I think!  ;D  Fortunately, you can't slow the guy down!

He that's me in the white shirt with Kathleen and Andy - very nice day  thanks for a great time!!!

Mac, knapsack pass was bone dry already.  We stepped off the Spray Park Trail to don our ski boots at ~6050 ft - tiptoe thru the rocks a little at first, the snow is melting out fast...
- thanks Dan, they say you're on Cascade Climbers. I was checkin' it. I can squeak out turns into the start of Aug. & Mammoth opened Nov. 2nd - so that's 9 months, about avg.
come to Lassen next end of June/start of July, Shastas' Wintun as well !
- luv those rpts.  why are you 'piste', when you're off-piste - enjoy !!
Wow.

I could do that.  ::)

[in my dreams ;)]
Nice work, guys.
I'm speechless!!!!!!!!!  Thanks for the TR!
Nice work and welcome to the Cascades  ;)

One of the maps I have indicate that we were not on the wonderland trail but instead on the spray park trail. The washington topo program however indcated we were on the wonderland trail.

The reg. Wonderland Trail goes N of Mowich Lake to Ipsut; the Spray Park Trail is a higher variation and rejoins the WT at the Carbon.
How was the Spray Park Trail---not too so...
Hey guys, many thanks for the replies and encouragement. That one short trip has already altered my perspective a bit. I was planning a day hike for Monday then thought, "Wow... 5 miles out and then I have to turn around and walk back?"

I've seen that Mountaineers class mentioned before and think it would be a great next step, provided I can figure it out with my work schedule.
When up yesterday, got whited out. Whatch out the border patrol.
nice work!
Hi Jeff and welome....I coordinate a Ski Mountaineering course for the Mountaineers and believe you to be a prime candidate. read about it here: Mountaineers Activities (second line down) and email me if  you have questions ... nice report ! Jerry White PS  Did you ski across the budding Slush Cup?

From Mad Dog NOt if you stash a couple beers in the creek at the bottom of the switchbacks!

When I do that it gets DARK from the time I leave the creek until I get to the car.
From Mad Dog
Actually it's not that far in, it's the trip out that seems to go on forever  .

Cool photos.  Glad you found some smooth turns.
Congrats!  Inspiring and motivating.  Thanks for sharing the photos and stories along the way.
Yeah dude, you did it!  Nice work!
Nice photos Jessica  ;D, thanks for sharing.  The Flett is such a great area, to bad it's so far in there.  Actually it's not that far in, it's the trip out that seems to go on forever  ::).
Nice report Amar. You nailed it with the conditions, elevations, and landmarks. While we were sitting up at the saddle we watched/heard four or five chunks break off the Ingraham icefall and come crashing down. Pretty spectacular and yes, Gary, it was thinning fast. Thanks for the report.
Nice! I am planning on hiking it this weekend and snowboarding down.
Really impressive!  Thanks for sharing all the trips this season - they were great reads!
Welcome Jeff!  Time flies - your report reminds me of my own religious conversion experience to TAY not that long ago.  And I remember Chris' first TR, I think.  Well done you guys!  The video was excellent.  Chris [u]is a good guy to go out with because he does have a lot of patience, even with old guys.

Too bad you picked a fixed heel mentor, though.  I think you might just have enough heart to telemark, Jeff.   ;)
If only I could insert your laugh right here, it would be perfect!  :D
Ruski, nice to meet you. The bugs were certainly buzzing, but a bout of deet  at the TH held them back from biting. cheers.
It's a dirty job but somebody's gotta do it.  ;)

You know Ron, it's just so hard to manage the maturity level of some folks, but that's the hand we're dealt.  I completely agree with you.
Sweet Kyle!  Impressive list of climbs completed this year - Congratulations!  Soloing a mountain like that takes an impressive amount of mental stamina.  Good work!  This "Oregon Local" is impressed.
That's the Hyas Glacier, now melted back to just a disc of ice under the east peak.  Maybe your informant had a lisp.
hello
i was the solo skier, glad to hear you guys had a blast.  I figured I'd skip the TR without a camera and so many reports being posted already. No mention of the bugs?  Man,  those things ate me up something good. Thats what I get for taking too many breaks I guess. Look forward to running into you guys again soon!
awesome kyle .. riveting and well-told story .. congrats on your amazing accomplishment .. jefferson has always intrigued me  ... i mean just the area for backpacking .. and now if we ever go i will have your adventure to inspire me ...  again great effort this season .. way to go!!

obtw did you catch these recent shots taken by kyled on nwhikers of the dakobeds from fortress? another epic trip of yours:

Nice work, Kyle, that's an impressive summit to have soloed.
I'm glad you toughed it out and met your personal goals for the season!

With that one I'd sure like to see this thread turn back to the beauty and grandeur of Kyle's pictures and trip reports.

Tell us about some of the other things you've been analizing.

but I was going to let her tell you before the video release party  ;)

I'm not sure what your referral program is here in this cult, but Chris deserves a toaster or $100 or whatever the spiff is for bringing another unsuspecting victim into the fold.

The reward is seeing that look on your face when we pulled up and over the saddle, revealing the north-facing snowfield amidst all the melted out south-facing slopes.

It's like that "circle of life thing".
I can still remember when Skierlyles was a newbie and first showed up.
Now he's a seasoned vetran showing the goods to a new guy.
Good on ya Chris and welcome Jeff!

It gets easier, trust me although light-weight gear does help and Skierlyles has humped those Havocs some large distances over the Cascades in the last few years before he became a Dynadevotee.
