Wow, too bad. That is some ammo for the WMC.

See any snowmobilers?

None actively, probably because their approach via King Creek/Shaser Creek (gated roads) has long since melted out.  But we could still could see many older snowmobile tracks throughout all the open slopes this deep in the wilderness.  See photos below.  There is a bright red wilderness boundary sign at the Falls Creek/Negro Creek divide with tr...
If anyone found a camera on the Coleman it belongs to Georg from our ski group.
Yeah, nice work gents!

Chris
Excellent. Snow quality was obviously much better than we found around Ingalls. I love that tour. For us it's just the right amount of committment to feel like we actually did something.
Nice John!  Something to ruminate on for my birthday ski next weekend...
Sorry you got shut out (so to speak).  Bachelor looked nice from Broken Top on Saturday and would have been good.  It's been a frustrating year down here with the weather, but the snowpack is holding up well so hopefully it sticks around for awhile :)
Hi Zap,

Still good coverage up the Robinson Lake drainage and there was still snow to the parking lot (although it was quite beat up).  The other drainages had melted out down low, but probably still OK once on the snow.  The Independence Peak gully was still good to go, although might have to walk on dirt to get to it (for about five minutes  ;)).  I guess all the wintery weather has kept some of the southerly areas viable later than normal.

I somehow managed to sluff the...
Thanks, Marcus. I'll insert them when I have some time. I just used the URL link it suggested for Emails and IM.

gibbycu - there were regular tire tracks immediately beyond the rock, so I'm pretty sure it was a recent addition to the landscape. Glad it didn't trap us uphill of it! :)
He's turning back into his usual self - the primary concerns of the day centered on the search for the next Silasmobile.

The pictures don't show it, but the morning was quite sunny. Good and consistent snow - get it before the ghost of tropical storm Laila ruins the party.

Climax slide in the bowl between Red and Kendall (dirty smudge at far right in second photo).
Preston,

WOW !  I can't believe the snow pack that still remains on Unviversity Peak. The Onion Valley terrain is usually marginal the first week of May. The upper section also sloughed in 2008 when I ski cut it and I noticed a similar sloughing in your photo.

The video was enjoyable, especially your 4 legged ski buddy.

This has been an unusual season in The Sierra.  I saw some good reports from Tioga Pass.

Jill had her hip fail during...
I drove up there on 5/15 and made it to 4600' according to mytracks on droid.  There were no rocks impeding our path although a couple 4-inchers that gave the underbelly of the civic hell.
Glad to see you are back to your healthy old self and getting after it.  8)
Nice Altasnob.
Joe Bell and I braved Muir yesterday. Wet and windy until 9k. Nice turns top 2k then down into the murk again.
Hey Mark,

I played with the Picasa photo a bit -- in order to get the right URL to embed the img, you have to right-click on the picture you want and select "Copy Image Location" or "Copy Image URL".  Once you have that, just click the Image or Thumbnail button in the posting window and paste the URL wherever it asks for it.

Nice Mark -- glad you guys didn't get too soggy over there.
Was up there, 3-5:30. Skins were still there @ 3 but might have been gone when I returned.

I guess I was "sweep" since I saw people downward on my way up but no one else still climbing, and saw no one on descent. C1 was still humming on standby WTF. Saw big grey tarp base C2. Maybe they were working on the repairs today?

Snow definitely more fun less sticky than last Monday. Nice spring snow really. Unfortunately there are cover problems starting - Sessel run is c...
The snow at alpental skied fine today, not a hint of flypaper anywhere. It was fast and well consolidated. I think the lack of sun this week really helped the surface to corn up nicely. The snow was dirty, but still skied well. I only skinned to the the top of chair 1 and everything I skied was fine. It was a nice day with no sun and only a hint of a drizzle here and there.

Nice to meet you morgan.

*I passed on the beer in the parking lot. I just didn't feel like a bee...
I hope you get the skins back! Really looked like someone left them there on purpose. I think someone may have found them on the patio or along the bridge and left them there for you.

Today was pretty great; for me Paradise = waist deep powder and still snowing.
Nevertheless, turns today were very good, indeed - I am not complaining at all!

Cheers
Ivo
Those skinny kicker skins were mine....damn.....was just posting to see if anyone picked them up.  I was one of the four in the lot as you headed up, beer passer #2.

Sorry to hear it was less then spectacular, I thought it was another day in paradise.

Anybody pick up the skinny skins I'd be thrilled to get them back...not sure how they ended up at the bridge.  Maybe the liftshack party before starting down had something to do with it ;-).

Foggy gho...
Reynolds has been on my list for a while. Way to go. The ski off the summit looks really fun.
Nice job Scott and Andy, and a good call on heading east of the crest.  It was socked in all day along the Nooksack yesterday.
Good one!

Thanks for making the vid.....

It is not easy to time good avy stability on this descent.......
Nice!  We skied from the saddle between the north and south peaks of Reynolds a couple of years ago.  Great ski and a beautiful view from up there.
Nice report and photo's Andy.
It looks like you found some solitude for yourself.  I think I can see myself in your photo.  I believe I am the fourth pixel up from your ski pole.
Nice work Andy!!  8)  Thanks for the details, sounds like some peaks in that area may be worth a trip if this weather remains.
Thanks - similar drive for me :)

I have only one pair of skis here in US, not wide but should do (Atomic RT86).

Lapping Chair 1 sounds better than staying home :)

Cheers
Ivo
yeah, i thought that would be my back up spot if i couldn't get up the road.  The road is fine, kind of rough but certainly drivable for even a 2wd, just a lot of big pot holes.  You can drive within about 2/3 of a mile of the pass.
I would not call any of the snow bad, the higher slushy stuff was just more challenging, definitely bring your widest skis.  And it just got firmer and firmer as you lost elevation, at the end of the tour some of our group thought doing laps to the top of Chair 1 would have been better skiing, not as panoramic a tour.

We chose Alpental because it is half the drive that Crystal is for us.
This shot of Todd could be in an add for something! Very nice
Hi, thanks for the beta.

Do you think Alpental Mon around lunch and afternoon would be decent?

I am debating Alpental or Crystal (if anything at all).

Where would you say the good snow started - lower 'Nash?

Cheers
Ivo
Yeeesssss!
Nothing like some firm Maine Noisy Corn in near June to make your day!!
A good half inch of edge purchase for carving is all that a guy needs... Shush... Shush... Shush... on and on... this Rocks. Opps, didn't see that wind ridge coming up. Visibility sucks. Exciting. Should find my uptrack for some depth perception…
Better slow down. Damn... busted through... almost bought on that one. Huummm. Better side slip a bit and see what's comin' up....

I thought i would try to hit the narrow weather window this morning and got to Hyak this morning at 9 am.

Sounds familiar, Silver was our intent, at about the same time.  We headed for Alpental instead, shorter drive, quicker altitude gain.  Thanks for the report, how was the condition of the road?

I'd rather carry skis than snowshoe... And I hate carrying skis ;)

But if you find a pair of skis I would even tele with them on my pack down,  ;D
If I found a pair of snowshoes I would probably leave em,
I'd rather carry skis than snowshoe... And I hate carrying skis ;)
Anyone been up towards Snow Lake recently? A friend wants to showshoe it... worth it bring the skis along, or am I just going to get drowned in some concrete?
Thank you, redshift! Very nice.

Photos make it look like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" flying, but I think of it actually as Vegetarian skiing:  lots of plants, little carving.
Thanks for sharing your experience today.  I kept looking at the webcams and telemetry and decided to catchup on some other projects.

The webcam images from Bachelor and Shasta looked very sunny. ;)
wow, redshift - this is very good!
Skiers, blessed, dance with gravity
Witness the face plant
Ecstasy
We 3 did laps there, too and probably saw you. Not too heavy to ski, but a bit too foggy to see well. The photo is not photoshopped and gives a good impression of sense of where the surface was.  Quite a few plants of various sorts for us, too. Saw lots of skier and boarders at the lower lot as we went up to the Yakima Pk lot. East facing slopes were easier than west facing. Be careful if the sun comes out tomorrow. The snow is really saturated.
"... One of those rare times where the dirty snow was what you wanted."

Wolf - I love it when you talk dirty to me!
Looking good. Heading out to the Enchantments tomorrow. May is the new January.

Any idea how the Ingalls valley bottom looked? could one ski all the way down then skin over to Stuart, or is it melted out at the bottom now?

Didn't get a direct view, I'd say it's 50/50 on whether still snow in valley immediately below Longs. But there's definitely enough for skiing into basin and below the treeline.
Last Sunday we skied from Long's Pass on a descending traverse to the valley bottom and could cross the creek on a snowbridge to the bottom of Ulrich's.  There was continuous snow up into the couloirs.
Thanks for the report, Wolf. The south side of Stuart still looks good. Any idea how the Ingalls valley bottom looked? could one ski all the way down then skin over to Stuart, or is it melted out at the bottom now?
Thanks Stoked.

Your first photo shows a pretty "evolved" cornice, but it looks like others I have seen in the past, including shed blocks.  Still scary though.  I would assume that lots of the snow that constitutes the full roll on that thing is a result of the new snow, especially since the cornice already discharged lots of blocks.
