Great report. Moderator: please, please, please don't take out the pics. It's worthy of being left as is!
great TR.... but i think the picture quota police may be coming for your report...
neat to see the inside of the snowdome station... i wish the park service would open that up to the public...they could make a fortune running it like the Alpine Club of Canada huts.

Great trip report, including some magnificent photos!
Where is the cabin? Is it open to the public?
The hut is located at about 6,500 feet on snowdome, right by panic peak. Unfortunately, it is not open to the public and is locked. My understanding is that it was established in the early 1900's by the University of Washington and folks used to winte...

Thanks. We were kind of impressed with ourselves for finally completing this tour. There was one time a couple years ago where we actually started down the main summit run but bailed because the snow was too crusty for us.
Looked like decent coverage for a nice line off 3 Brothers. Here's photos of the tour. There's a couple shots of 3 Brothers towards the end.

Way to complete the loop Mike and Brenda. That NE slope is such a neat long cruiser in a beautiful setting. Mike, any chance you have a picture of 3 Brothers south side from Little Navaho? There's some interest in heading that direction and I wonder if it is just too melted out to bother with skis.
Thanks,
John
Thanks,
John
We were across the highway and paid attention to what was going on around us - set off on purpose a couple of sluffs - but overall a wonderful weekend.

Great second picture!
Thanks, it'll be on my wall.
Thanks for the details Amar! I thought the conditions might be better higher up. If the snow continues to fall in such light quantities, that proto-corn could be true corn by July! ; )
We were up there too, not at all as energetic as you, but the snow was GREAT! Pete
You're the best Amar! Rock on tough guy! Way to get after it! ;D
Hey, sounds like a good time in the mountains despite the rain. My brother and I were thinking of touring up the sulphide glacier, and either making a summit attempt or just ski down from the base of the summit pyramid. However, I have never done this route before, or any route up shuksan for that matter, and I don't know just how long of a tour it is. Anyone have a good estimate of how many hours it takes to go from the car to the summit? Unfortunately, my brother and I are both pretty bus...

Not so sure I agree with that. I enjoy the skiing and the sunshine and the feeling of just being up high in the mountains, but not the pain or suffering. Not at all. Some others certainly do relish that, but for me it's just the price to be paid (sometimes) to find and experience all the good things that I do take pleasure in.
Wow! great trip report and pics. We tried same Easton approach on Sat night / Sun morning and didn't make it to the top but enjoyed the great weather and similar skinning and skiing conditions that you and TobyT reported.
TobyT, I am pretty sure I ran into you and Stacy as you were finishing/loading up we were just showing up in my friends truck. I don't think many others were paragliding that day! It was our first time on Baker and you and Stacy's adv...

Great to see Carla on skis, she should 86 the snowshoes!
;D
We went up on Sunday 5/16 and had a good time despite the late start. We saw a couple of slides coming off the E ridge (near those three chutes). When they hit the slope below, they did not trigger any slides. The coulouir had small point releases but again, nothing slid. This was well worth the slog. Even crossing the river was fun (look for the pink flagging)!

Yo John, we saw you descending as 3 of us skinned towards Judy's. Judy's was fun, BTW.
6 of us did Earl yesterday (Sun 5/16), ascending and descending the same lines you did. Your skin tracks were quite melted out, looked to be a week old! It's cooking up there.
Other than your party, we didn't see any other ski tourists on the Bean Basin peaks. ...

thought i saw you skiing next to anvil... that was quite the conga line, too! my newbie comrades were incredulous that there might be over 100 people up there, but by noon, my prediction proved quite the understatement! as far as free beer, there actually was a guy named Mike and his friends handing out free Rainier's at Muir... never seen so many people drinking beer up there.
way to be a glutton for the vert! quite envious!

Dan,
Check out this photo.
It must have been from the last cycle, it was not older than a few weeks.
West facing, you can see it here:

Sounds fun, John. See my report from the day before in Beverly Crk.
Greg - cool seeing you and your son at Alpy a couple weeks ago. Glad to see a father getting out with his protege!

Nice Greg! 4 hrs to Muir for an 11 year old... thats pretty good. I went to Crystal with the dog instead... I hope you got my message. Chugach needed a ski tour!

I really don't like the traverse above the lake. In the early morning, on the hard snow, I have to admit that the boot crampons and ice axe came out and I walked around!
O yeah, the frozen ice sheets at a 45 degrees angle along the edge of the reservoir. I usually wear ski crampons but I remember a friend who snapped his ski crampons due to the side angle...
Nice work Preston! Way to get some in Cal-i-forn-I A!

Jill hates that drainage and the running water adds an interesting water feature. But the options available in the basin are enormous.

The terrain in Zig Zag Canyon is very interesting and unbelievably easy to access from Timberline.
Nice pics.

That would be great. Looks like there is tons of snow on Obs. Point Road for a while. Any idea when that will be drivable?
What about 7 Lakes-HIgh Divide access?

How was the trail? Able to skin continuously? Road clear to TH? I'm hoping to get to Pilchuck soon... Thanks!
Hi! Can drive to TH. Trail has snow patches from the beginning but mostly I'd say bare for about 2/3 the way up. I hiked it in my tennis shoes no problem. Skied down however to within 75' of the TH--hurray!&nb...
Sorry we missed you guys today. After checking the overnight temps and looking out the window to the west to see dark clouds on the horizon we decided our weapon of choice for the day was mountain bikes instead of skis. We headed west on the Adventure Trail for face shots of muddy water. :D
Glad to hear you were able to squeeze in a short tour, sounds like "cut it and let it run" technique worked well.

He really ripped it up nicely, killing it on the up and the down- yeah I'm a proud papa.
"old" set up next to "new" set up. The mini-gots /fritschis weigh as much as my lotus 120/ft12's.
The gang of four I was part of added to that hundreds of people. I was amazed by the line. I made it up at 2pm right behind some guy and HIS DOG! That was pretty funny. It was a little grey dog and didn't look so out of breath so I figured I had nothing to complain about as I had boots on and longer legs. We headed down and got to the base area about 4pm whereupon Happy Hour commenced. Pretty nice day for a trip.

Just as we got near the crater rim (14180 ft), I suddenly spotted two sets of skis-on-packs, poking up over a small roll ahead. My other two partners were arriving via Nisqually Cleaver, perfect timing within a minute or so ahead of us.
I was wondering about the tracks that headed west from Muir to below the Nisqually icecliff that I saw Saturday. I didn't realize there was a route that went up the cleaver. Looks serac-fille...

Nice TR Amar. You serve up some of the best ones around. Skied the Easton yesterday in similar conditions. We tried to drop in on the Park Headwall but couldn't commit to a second turn (twice!) due to firm/icy conditions. We did ski the upper Roosevelt in a mixture of powder turning to windblown ice. The south side was definitely the best skiing...Stacy got a paraglider flight from the crater, and high speed sled laps on the Easton were a treat! Snow remained good down to 6k for the duratio...
I hear ya Dave. Guess what I'm doing today? That's right, working. And, here it is 8:30 on a Sunday morning!
Way to be getting after it Amar.
