Kenji, as many politicians and BP Oil's CEO say, "trust me." :)  We had sun, although I have no photos to prove it.
Nice report for a different area - thanks!
Paradise-Muir was pretty sweet today!
Tatoosh looked pretty white, actually we couldn't see the tatoosh from most angles, so yes Robie, it was white.  Hey, want to join us on Baker this weekend? Or anyone else for that matter?
While high on its western shoulder the sun came out and we had great views of the Emmons, Little Tahoma, and the Fryingpan.

Where are the photos?  We need some evidence!

Kudos for braving the weather, unlike me :-[
Yes, nice & easy and certainly enjoyed the snow AND sunshine-no complaints!  We should be able to post some pics soon.  Definitely a sweet little tour.  ~Lara
Bummer. I was surprised to note when I got home that there was an impressive inversion Sunday mid-day (just before the Chair 2 telemetry died :( ). It was 10 degrees F warmer up top than at mid-mountain.

Monday morning update == YUK.

While the weather was nice, and skinning wasn't too bad (even with having brought the wrong, too-skinny skins), the snow was terrible. Extremely sticky. Actually worse higher up. For Edelweiss side C2 runs, there might have been a moment at 9 or 10 AM where a surface crust was soft enough on top yet strong enough to keep you above the foul isogoo, but I missed that moment. I made the mistake of going down Intl which was particularly awful at the top....
Yeah, that was likely us you saw, md.  Pretty certain that we were the only party on Bean on Saturday.  We saw your tracks on Judy's.  Nice.  The W ramp on Earl had melted out a bunch since we skied it last week.

blitz, I did not carry a camera.  Randy took some pics on yesterday's tour.

Nice to see that others appreciate the largely unadmired charms of Goat Island Mountain.

I doubt that it is unadmired, just to many other options. ;)
Still on the to-do list.
This is a picture that I took about this time last year.
I think Brenda and I spotted you all as you summitted Bean Pk. Six of us made a ski camp over the weekend down in the trees around 5200'. Pretty good skiing over there Fri thru Sun, and the weather was decent, although cool. Sat was beautiful, especially in the morning.

Your Sunday tour looks interesting. I gotta try that.
where's the picture!?!? 8)
cool .. glad you guys found some turns and some fun .. great tr and pix .. makes me want to move back over to the peninsula ..

btw .. what's the status on the road out to obstruction? still lots of snow for skiing? typically they open it around jul 4th .. fm your pix it doesn't look like it this year ..
Nice to see that others appreciate the largely unadmired charms of Goat Island Mountain. There are some wonderful north facing lines, including the main avalanche path, and the complicated bowl to the west of that path. It's too bad that winter access is such an issue!
What a crazy place for Alex to pop his shoulder......
Good one Sky and Andy......
Looked good in there.....
Sounds as if Saturday was the day to get it.  :)
Great day. Great company. Watch out for those park rangers. I got pulled over for driving too slow.
Nice work! I was getting drenched on my bike at lower elevations, looks like you made the right choice!
Here's a pic Kyle Miller sent me of our tracks in Morning glory taken from across the valley.
thanks Kyle
Equal visibility-less conditions up at Baker today. Our plans to ski out to Coleman Pinnacle ended in the whiteout up at Artist's Point. Cleared up nicely by the time we finally got back to the car at 2PM after yo-yoing some slopes near the ski area in mushy snow.
Jenn ,thanks for the report. I too sat home (being on call ) and wondering if I was missing some great skiing. Was the Tatoosh whited out as well?
I ended up getting called out made a few bucks then immediately bought some gear at backpackers to erase the pain.
Nice skiing with you Jen! It was fun playing the where are we going game all week :)

The fog did suck. Thankfully the RMI guys had an easy to follow boot pack and the groups of 10 of them made spotting the trail easy. Also glad i could be the test dummy and find the edge of the drop offs and figure out when the hill suddenly changes from going up downhill to up hill for you! And sorry for the crappy skin track up from Edith!

and about hurricane ridge....might have been the...
Thank-you for the report; alleviates me kicking myself in the butt for using bad weather (fog) as an excuse for not skiing; now I'm glad I stayed home; looks like it will be nice tomorrow and I'll go if it is. :-)
Early and late.  November and May bringing the goods this year.  Way to get some!

Would you recommend ski building to someone who is not a skilled wood worker?
How many hours did it...
Nice!!  I have wanted to get up there for some time but cannot seem to find folks to motivate up north.  Looks like a solo trip is in order here soon.  Thanks for the TR!!  8)
Second all the accolades -- great report and very inspirational.  Need to get back there!
Excellent trip report, the pictures are outstanding. Olympus is a great mountain, not easy to reach from any direction, but the rewards are certainly worth the price of admission.
Marcus, thanks for granting partial amnesty!
We are planning to head in there in a few weeks (skis included), the beta is much appreciated.

Sounds like a good day Brian, glad you were able to get out and get some.
Guess you had enough gas to make it up to the hill, hope it all stayed in the tank.  ;)

some of us worked today.

Yes we did; thought we did a pretty good job of addressing some of the more pressing social issues facing today's society too.  :D

Gary
some of us worked today.

See you sunday.
Hey Jimbo, thanks for the report and way to get after it on Baker!!
Great TR - thanks for taking time to write it up!
Partial amnesty, at least -- I thumbnailed a bunch of your pictures Aaron.  The photo guidelines are definitely looser than they used to be, but not quite that loose yet.  Beautiful pictures and a great TR, thanks for sharing it!
Wow! Fantastic!  Those are really inspiring pics!  That 17mile trek to Glacier meadows is seeming shorter and shorter in my mind...

i can run an RTK so give me a pm next time  ;D

Gorgeous!!!
btw adonohoe and tj .. i shot this 7/18/09 .. dave said it was the first time he'd ever seen this debris .. that's how little snow was on the dome last summer ..

here's one with dave (2nd fm the left next to the hut) ..he's legendary in the olympics .. ask anyone in the park system .. anyhow after our climb he saw us coming back .. put out the lawn chairs and made us some lemona...
awesome ... great effort, esp getting past those chutes .. beautiful pix .. we camped up there last july .. during our summit .. and spent some quality time with dave skinner at the hut .. makes me homesick .. a great place to spend a few days

Excellent TR! Great photos! Well done
Awesome place. If the weather is friendly, I hope to get back up in there again this year. Thanks for the photos. Can't believe how much snow there is!
Skiable art.  What could be more WOW?
So, will we see these at Eddie Bauer soon?
wow! Fantastic TR, words pics and all. I wanna be TJ's friend. Maybe he needs some help restocking his hidden treats? And what's he wearing on his head skiing down from the summit block? A satellite dish?
Hard at work no doubt...
Would you recommend ski building to someone who is not a skilled wood worker?

Great trip report!

My understanding is that it was established in the early 1900's by the University of Washington and folks used to winter over there to do glacier research.

The hut was built for the International Geophysical Year (IGY) in 1957-58. It was called "Chateau LaChapelle" by the original research team, after Ed LaChapelle, th...
Thank you.  I'm making a plea for pic amnesty.
