The picture above was supposed to be about the snow.
Some cynics say the park won't open Sunrise with that much snow because then they would have to worry about non savy people sliding off the wrong spots.Staffing and all that.
I don't know what the real reasons are. I just wish to ski up there earlier. earlier would mean more coverage and less damage to flora.
It would also take some pressure off of Paradise.

The face turned out to be just like Aaron's (who sadly was otherwise committed at sea level): beautifully chiseled, a paragon of beauty and a birthplace of intense emotions.
Your sweet words are no consolation prize in this case. I'm incredibly jealous. Congrats on yet another sweet line this spring.
God that's a great route. Way to bike all the way in there for some awesome turns!
BTW, how big was the log? The only one?

Cool. Thanks for the TR and great pics, I've always wanted to get over there.
Nice looking skis Robie.
I was wondering how the skiing would have been today.
This cold weather has maintained a fair snowpack up there. It would be interesting if they pushed the opening back, then I would know there is a skier conspiracy.

surely they are a couple models old by now. Just couldn't imagine myself with the latest thing.
Looks like a new set of boards, Robman.

Nice go of it Greg.
Looked like a delicious run.
We only skied the one time together, but I would not concern to much about MoFro's mountain savvy with his son. I enjoyed his pragmatic approach to the hill both in snow condition assessment and route selection. Plus he's in excellent condition and could have walked circles around me, but paced the group to always keep communication lines open.

I must say, those are some damn fine tracks.
What an amazing day to be in the mountains skiing. It was nice to meet all the folks enjoying the mountain.
I met a couple of concerned hikers at the trailhead. "Is this the trailhead for Silver Peak? Why does everyone have skis?" they asked. After telling them they were at the right place they decided that the weren't up for hiking in the snow.

Really an outstanding report, not to mention accomplishment. Five of us followed your exact route on Sunday, June 14, which brought grown men to their knees! It was uncanny to read your avalanche assessment on TGR, which matched ours virtually exactly, right down to following your bootpack on an "already slid" section on Meany Crest. The snow was fairly wet and heavy on Sunday, and we ski cut several hissers on steeper rolls, but it was very manageable . A great day out on a favorite t...
Ed. as of 6/12 it's door to door, temps have moderated, but it will be going fast. jamie
Also, the glacier was in really good shape when we were up there last Tuesday. We were able to head right for Sherman Peak from the top of the moraine without really changing course. We never really had to navigate around any slots, though there were a few lovely seracs poking through on either side of our route. It was really straightforward.
We brought a rope and wore our harni (plural of harness?) but ended up not using it due to the totally filled-in conditions. The solid crust an...

You can skin from your car a few hundred feet to the Horse Camp and again once you cross the dry bridge. Parking is maybe 1\8 mile from the bathrooms.
Thanks for the report Lisa! So just to clarify for me, you can drive almost to the TH on road 13? And could you skin from the TH?
Cheers, David.

One of the times when speed is your best friend. Those rocks were sizable, sharp and not to be tangled with.
Nice Scott! Looks like a base-grind landing over that schrund.
Nice Oyvind! You're making up for May, I see...
No more snowmobiles.
Kath, that was actually a Sky quote told to me by Dave Coleman. Hummels probably adopted it as well. They and Kyle Miller went to ski Dome Peak over the weekend, can't wait to see Jason's photos.

Scott,
Very nice TR and photos. Many of us have stopped and looked at the chutes hoping to see a track of a "sporty" descent. Glad to hear there was snow from the parking area to the base. I've wondered how much of a bushwack that descent would be from the road. It would have been enjoyable to see you ski down. There are a few chutes near Ellery Bowl off the Dana Plateau near Tioga Pass that look very similar. Just in case your "list" is getting short. ;)

that sounds like hummel ;)
Nice job of getting that.
From your picture the chute looks wider than what it appears from a distance.
Pretty sporty leap of faith over the shrung to land on a narrow strip of snow. ;)
Tough to arc em to dump speed in a rock lined chute.

Nice dual sport effort. Looks like some fun skiing for sure.
Thanks for the conditions report and nice pix. We thought of Baker but deferred due to the NWAC avy warning. Looks like it could be perfect later this week. Are the sleds gone?
Hey jtack, nice to see you and your crew up there. It was a great day. Did that photo of Leigh and I turn out? Thanks!

Yikes, skiable only to 12360' altitude, and a thousand foot rubble climb to get back to the car! We skied back to the car at 3750' yesterday, the Rockies are really rocky I guess? Congrats on your determination and fortitude.

Toby- Nice chatting w/ you guys. Thnx for the confirming that questionable line. Really impressive terrain out there. Will be back next winter.
Zap - Are you asking about the summit plateau? We parked roughly at 3700-3800 ft. Took ~7.5 hrs to reach summit from the car and gross elevation gain of ~5k ft. The approach has a fair amt of elevation gain/loss. You can see our route is greater detail here: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0j4CyKZ9ZgfNtFfFN87s5jA5i...

Nice TR and a beautiful series of photos. The last time I was on Mt. Garibaldi was the spring of 1999 when we also did the Garibaldi Neve traverse along with a few days touring in Sphinx Bay . We did the long approach from the Elfin hut and finished at the Black Tusk TH. Wonderful touring terrain. I remember back then seeing snowmachine tracks approaching along your route.
Do you remember the amount the amount of time and vertical from your parking spot to the plateau ?

Nice! The 'shrund looks more filled in than it did when we were up there on May, 9th! We saw you at the end of your day, near the wilderness boundary. Skiers drinking beers sitting on sleds? The line labeled "does it go?" on your picasa album does indeed go. A few Squamish locals skied it when we were up last. May 9th we skied the little chute, lookers left of the summit ridge pinnacle in your last photo. It was powder then, looks like wet slide action now. Either branch of those...

What a great day! Nice to meet you up there.
Thank YOU for the steps.
We were some of the early birds also, leaving the parking lot at 7:30 and I have to say that the skiing from Muir to Anvil and skiers left to Pebble creek was some of the fastest, most exquisite, shirt ripping turns we have made in a long while. Was that your crew with the youngster in the green pants?
Wanting to do some touring from Hwy 20 6/21-22. Curious to hear if snow at the Pass and "switchback" still extends to the car door? If so, for how much longer?
Thanks,
Ed
Thanks,

Best snow I've seen in months, what a day! Got any pictures? I brought a camera, my best lens, polarizing filters, a monopod, a little lens cleaning tool, and I even charged up my battery last night -- but I didn't bring a memory card. :(

Fun back-to-back tours up there this weekend. The lunch spot on the NW ridge of Silver is becoming a social mecca on sunny June weekends. ;D
Nice selection of photos, fun to chat with you on the way up Silver last week. See you next year?
It was great to finally get up there for a perfect day. My TR with pics at NWH.

Prestonf and I (actually Prestonf) found the crampon and placed it in the most obvious place we could see. We're glad it found its owner. We parked in the main Naches Peak parking lot and traversed our way across the north and northwest aspects...good to hear that is where you found the best snow - we were suspecting that was the case, but you never know!!
This CookieMonster had a great day out and about with everyone: a fun, fit crew.
I'm surprised Hidden Lakes Peak doesn't get skiied more often. I'm intrigued by the idea of spending a powder day in the vincinity. Nice place to run laps, if nothing else, and the views are amazing.
