What a great day! Nice to meet you up there.
Thank YOU for the steps.
We were some of the early birds also, leaving the parking lot at 7:30 and I have to say that the skiing from Muir to Anvil and skiers left to Pebble creek was some of the fastest, most exquisite, shirt ripping turns we have made in a long while. Was that your crew with the youngster in the green pants?
Wanting to do some touring from Hwy 20 6/21-22. Curious to hear if snow at the Pass and "switchback" still extends to the car door? If so, for how much longer?
Thanks,
Ed
Thanks,

Nice seeing you once more this season. Have a good summer.

Best snow I've seen in months, what a day! Got any pictures? I brought a camera, my best lens, polarizing filters, a monopod, a little lens cleaning tool, and I even charged up my battery last night -- but I didn't bring a memory card. :(
Hey Jimmy, I posted my pictures on my site:

Fun back-to-back tours up there this weekend. The lunch spot on the NW ridge of Silver is becoming a social mecca on sunny June weekends. ;D
Nice selection of photos, fun to chat with you on the way up Silver last week. See you next year?
It was great to finally get up there for a perfect day. My TR with pics at NWH.

Prestonf and I (actually Prestonf) found the crampon and placed it in the most obvious place we could see. We're glad it found its owner. We parked in the main Naches Peak parking lot and traversed our way across the north and northwest aspects...good to hear that is where you found the best snow - we were suspecting that was the case, but you never know!!
This CookieMonster had a great day out and about with everyone: a fun, fit crew.
I'm surprised Hidden Lakes Peak doesn't get skiied more often. I'm intrigued by the idea of spending a powder day in the vincinity. Nice place to run laps, if nothing else, and the views are amazing.
Glorificus Adventum receives full credit for choosing a fun and safe location.

Usually I take a lot of pictures, but since I didn't have my pack on all day I didn't have my camera on me either.

This is useful to know, and I'll keep it on the June-turns list. Cheers.

Good combo. outing. You did the south ridge, right? I climbed it several Julys ago when there was only a few hundred feet of snow above Ingalls Lake. Way to shlep the rack and rope up on skis.
How close to the TH were you able to drive?
Hi Telemack,
Yes, it was the south ridge route. The road is clear of snow to the TH, and I just heard that the road...
What a blast it was up there! We got in one more run down the backside after you left, Silas, and it was just as good as our trip down with you. There was that one dodgy traverse across hollow snow over talus where I heard the unsettling sound of settlement as I quickly crossed, but everything held up for us yet again. We took a nice steep and shaded line down from the knoll, just on the east side of the ridge dividing the west and east lobes of Silver's north basin. There was a "if yo...

It was a very clear day, I suspect the views of the North Cascades were superb from HLP! Good call.
An apt suspicion, as the vew were incredible! Almost as incredible as Cookie's rants ;)
Nice once guys. I was just commenting to my ski partners earlier this week that I'm not making the most out of the Mountain Loop peaks. That area is beautiful.

Brenda and I spotted those tracks from our tour around Naches and Dewey Pks area. Looked a lot better than the sticky, hissing stuff we were skiing.
Wonderful Mofro. I wish I hadn't chickened out.
Thats one tough little d00d!

Great Fathers' Day present eight days early! You are building a skinning machine, just as Zap hopes to do with his grandkids.
WOW ! Your 11 yo is a climbing and skiing machine. Both sets of tracks were beautiful. A wonderful day to share with your "ski buddy". ;)
Great photos! An 11 yr old who does almost 5000 up??!! Wow, kudos to the little gaffer, that's absolutely amazing (hope you didn't make him carry all the water) :)

It was cool to meet up with you today! Thanks for letting me tag along. Here are a few pictures from the day.
Thanks for the 21st century skiing demo, big high speed turns. The pics say it all, a great day to be in the mountains, great snow, and great company. The party will reconvene tomorrow, same time, same place.

I was there!
Here's a photo from the road.
Met Jacob on a split Lib Tech, and Seth, who offered me a ride on his snowmobile for laps in the bowl. My preparation finally paid off - Jacob needed a screwdriver and I had one :)
I saw 5-6 guys with a dog who took a route I wasn't sure would get me to the car without skinning up again (no-no, can't do!), and also 5 or so boarders who went the other slope earlier - who were you guys?
Cheers

Which method did you use to get from Hannegan Camps to the main summit ridge? Summer route (all the way to pass, over little knolls, straight up Pt5930 and wrapping around the E side?) Or something else such as contouring under the W side of 5930?
We went the summer route only because that aspect had gotten some more sun and softened up from the hard overnight freeze...
Great shots of Shuksan and the Nooksack cirque!
Looks like we were just behind you. We call that place "Waterjug".
Yeah, but the real steeze is the full-on Julbos and Hamill camel helmet liner. It's going on .. 8)
Great Pics - Great area! Love the Tats!! ;D

Nice trip!
I too wear womens pants. 75$ on steap and cheap.

Everytime I see that 3rd picture it reminds me of the time the roof at the lookout blew off in those sustained 100+ MPH winds and landed intact way down in the basin. Pretty amazing that it traveled that far without totally getting destroyed. Made in America ;)
You also timed the snow just right for quality!
Great trip report.
Great trip report.
Don_B,
I was on my split board and it went very well. My friend on skies sat it out at GP with blisters :(. Don't know if that's a problem with long approaches on skies or if his just aren't fitting right?

Way to time it. That's a great tour. I was just wondering about that route when I was going up to Chinook Pass.
What were you skiing on for such a long low-slope tour and then turns? I've used skinny fish scale metal edge xc skis for the tour, not so great for the turns.
p.s., Mt Rainier Volunteers blog has a notice that they are looking for volunteers to shovel out the Sunrise visitors center etc, and mentions skiing afterwards to "test the snow conditions"...
