He did a lot of smiling yesterday.....
That third picture sure hurts!

Way to get at it Runcle.
Sounds like a great day Alisa.  :D
Looking forward to the Pix.

Gary and Jan
Great to see a smile on Ryan's face.
Looks sweet!  Nice turns, Gregg and Ryan.

And apparently it was a lot sunnier up there than expected based on the "FRIDAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS" forecast.

Looking forward to skiing some of that deep pow in the sunshine tomorrow!

Video clip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8rP7idINic - Rob needs to forget about weight and bring the big skis for mornings like these!

Part way down

Job done

Great TR! I'm heading up to a cabin underneath the Lichtenberg (across from Yodelin), so it's good to hear that the conditions are good!
Nice... weather pattern looks like it'll be staying good and wintry, too, with the large scale pattern switching to Northerly flow early next week ( http://www.atmos.washington.edu/~ovens/loops/wxloop.cgi?mm5d1_x_slp+///3 ). Looks like good possibility for snow in the middle of next week, as well ( http://www.atmos.washington.edu/~ovens/loops/wxloop.cgi?mm5d2_x_snow24+///3 ). Nice to have a return to conditions conducive to good touring options within a shorter drive from SEA.
Nice write up.
A good read and has useful info as well.
It may approach the quality of the reports of the world famous and renowned Markharf.
Awesome trip Forest. Thanks for the invite. You know how to pick those windows! Cool story and pics as well!

My pics and story will be soon if I get my act together! Here are a couple I've gone through so far.

...
Thanks....

Yes you would enjoy it....I am sure.....
Nice work.  We were in the chair peak basin early this morning and found similar conditions.  Wish I could have stayed out longer, but duty called.
glad to see the religion does not lose appeal after so many pilgrimages! though i certainly do not have anywhere near 100 ascents to muir, or cloud camp, as muir called it (your picture reminded me), i have debated with friends the virtues of muir many a time when deciding where to go for a tour. now i can cite a reputable source with histograms to make my case ;) see you on the skin track!
Have pictures been posted yet?
That first photo looks so nice.  I think I need to make a trip up north.
Thanks for sharing Andy....

Lsd.....  Long sustained distance...... Just to clarify!

This would turn out to be a good LSD training day for the vertfest. [img]

I’ve never heard of this kind of training for skiing. (But it seems to be working.)
Is it legal in Canada?
Nice choice for a dawn patrol.  Good work. ;D

:). Snoqualmie may not always deliver powder, but it's always an adventure. Nice work!

Well said.

Nice vision guys, thanks for sharing.
Monika brought it every time to the Alpental race and seem to be having a blast.
I was hoping to do a trip with Monika up to Glacier Peak this past spring,it just
didn't work out with timing. It was really cool to see all the friends out there with
the stuffed cats putting the hammer down in Monika's honor.

Actually, I think that's just a barchart, rather than a histogram since the abscissa is not cutpoints of the ordinate. But now we're getting pedantic ;D

Andyrew, your comment made me think and do some reading (which is always good), to try to see if I had misused the term "histogram" -- after all I'm not a statistician. But in the end, I d...

Holden is a wonderful access point for day trips or extended adventures.

Sky,  In the past Jill and I have spent a few days staying in Holden and then doing day trips from Holden.  Yeah, you lose a half day traveling each way. But when you are retired .  ;)
^^^Which still means starting from the westside before daylight and not getting to Holden before afternoon.

(Sorry, not really trying to start an argument here.)
Actually, they use the fast boat in the winter, departing Chelan at 10, Fields Point at 10:50 and at Lucerne before noon.  Still a long haul for wetsiders.
Nice writeup, Forest.  Glad you and Jason had a good ski.

Inexplicable?  Seattle <==> Holden: a full day either way, not available every day of the week, must be in Chelan ready to go circa 9 am to catch the Lady of the Lake.  Would that I had enough time not to bump it off my list based solely on these facts.  Some day.
A great TR and photos.  Holden is a wonderful access point for day trips or extended adventures.  The village staff are friendly.  Jill and I have had some great spring tours from the village.

Nice. Lots of terrain up there. I've only been up there once, but we spent a full day with a few ascents/descents for extra verts, never crossed our own track, and never crossed your track either. That north basin that you skirted below/around on your ascent looks intriguing, at least on the map (I've not looked at it in person). If it were a bit more stable, would you have skied it?...
Happy B-day! Hopefully the needed snow will arrive over the next few days.
Themes?  Well, we did watch the movie "Frozen" before doing Frozen and id watch RED before doing Red... Sure there are other themes, looking for sunshine, having fun runs...

Plenty of options from Red west and east.  With more coverage could get down a modified way we came up.  the route SE looked nice and steep, not thrilled with the snow conditions.  The bwl to teh north had me intrigued with wanting to ski it.  Looked like could head NW and around...

Sounds like the xmas trees at the bottom of the big trees up high aren't growing up enough to cause any real problems (it's been a few years since I got up there). Nice to know...
Happy Birthday, Jimmy!  How yah doing on that "one year older" deal  ;D

Don't forget the chocolate. Bring the good stuff and sunshine...

100 times up Muir is a milestone for sure, but is this this first histogram ever posted to Turns All Year? That might be even more of a milestone!

We didn't drive to the end of the road, just the first trailhead after the one right by the Interstate.
The snowmobile parking at the end of the road, I assume?  That fits with the way I usually go, out the groomed road toward Mt. Margaret, except it's a left up onto a logging road.  Perhaps you're hitting a different road network, farther back from the end of the road.

Anyway, happy birthday.  It's a neat area to explore.

Nice -- which route did you take that you encountered so many creeks?

I'd have to defer to Adam on the route questions...  We started up from the snowpark a mile or so from the Interstate, and shortly after leaving the parking area we took a right through what looked like it might have been a logging road a long time ago, but young trees covered it now.
Nice -- which route did you take that you encountered so many creeks?

I was just remarking this weekend that the coverage was low on Rampart when we were up there over a month ago -- happy to hear it's at least manageable still, despite the warm weather.
The Valentine is Great!
I’m going to do that next time I go skiing and take a picture for my wife. Maybe then she will go skiing with me some time  :)
Wide angle lenses!

My GoPro video cam is also real wide and it makes my runs look longer than they actually are and also a lot faster as well.

That second picture looks like a classic avi trap.  How long was it and were you confident that the conditions on the top of that were as solid as when you started out at the bottom?

Cool idea.  Inspires me to be more flexible for this three day wk-end!
I am glad you were able to get on that slope and get some turns.
You mentioned the snow conditions went from dense to light and was well bonded.  That second picture looks like a classic avi trap.  How long was it and were you confident that the conditions on the top of that were as solid as when you started out at the bottom?  Certainly looks like a nice ski.
