Nice TR and video edit, Ross... waterfall looked entertaining.
Brutal... thanks for the report. Good effort. Are those Scott's new boots?
Ale, splitboar....er....AT skier....er...hell, I don't even know anymore...and I'm not sure Scott knows anymore.

Tails tucked, skins on, we're headed down.

Good on you guys for scoring these lines! A group I skiied with the past 2 Sundays encountered knee-wrenching sloopy or refrozen mank!! Hoping to get more of your style of snow soon...
Nice video. I like the pole-mounted camera angle.
The commercial aspect seems pretty simple. If a client had made and posted the video, I don't think anybody would have commented on it. But when a guide makes and posts the video (with an offer of more guiding availability in the future) it seems like a commercial post to me.
This is an isolated case, and it does include good condition info. I won't predict what the moderators may think. I recall that in the past a...

Silas - I like your tralbreaking style ;)
Indeed, thanks Charlie!
At the end of our second run (part of which Jack has in his linked video) one member of our party said, in essence "That's the best snow I've ever skied in Washington, and I'm going to have to tell the folks I went to Powder Creek in BC two weeks ago that it was better than anything we had there..." While I've had a few outings with perhaps slightly better snow, I think that may be sp...

Thanks for cutting the uptrack Silas (Charlie)! On a nearby meadow: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jackmc/5482681654/in/set-72157626156456562/
I'm guessing somewhere near Gunn Peak, but where exactly, or what road are you approaching from? Looks interesting.....
well written Leyland!
So nice to be able take advantage of the cold snap and ski all the way to the skykomish. I was suprised with the options for good ridable terrain up there.
leyland skiing off the summit.

into the gulley. so fun.

looking back up.

Glad you got some windless goods Silas. I ended up in town trying to kick this lung problem. That video is killing me!
We got a few small settlements off sunny aspects, powder on shady ones. One sluffy release to a crust ~18" down on a steeper roll in the trees, minimal propagation. Good skiing - interested to see how it changes Sunday.
Jeff was at Harts Pass for 9 days, not Washington Pass. Different Snotel sites for a reason.
Yep, we were there too. Great conditions and lighting. A little on the chilly side when you stood still. It was cold enough that one of my two video cameras stopped working but the other one hung on for a few segments. The snow depth was noticeably lower this year - many more trees sticking up.
Here is a brief video to highlight the tree skiing in over a foot of powder.

Any followup on this--was that Cecilly? (young woman, black helmet, tele gear?). Which creek?

Nice turns. Is this the cougar mountain NNE of Conconully? How do you approach it?
Nope, its Cougar Mountain right off Gunn Ranch Road just off Rendezvous Rd outside of Winthrop.
More like front-country skiing its so close to civilization.

I'll leave it to more regular TAYers to determine if this post could be judged commercial. However, the snowpack data was greatly appreciated since I took my son for a tour in Kangaroo Basin (WA Pass hairpin) today.
We found about 8-10 inches of powder since our last visit here on Monday. Ironically, conditions were better down low - a stout west wind had scoured the ridges above about 6800ft. We'd planned to drop down the east side of Kangaroo Col (Twisp R...

While y'all were giggling like children, I did my best to be very serious here in town...
Nice work! Sounded like a great tour. And you didn't leave AP behind, which was courteous of you. :)

On thurs. a skier triggered a slide and went for a nice tummble. End result, broken femur.
Skiing with DSLR and a tripod. That's one very dedicated photographer.
Yes, I would be keen to hear what 'event' happened on Table on Thursday also? We were skiing the 'Slack Country' in the area on the same day, ie; Shuksan Arm and Hemi's and didn't notice any instability, and looking out into the Mazama Bowl everything looked to be holding well. I did however kick off a hefty 12-16" wind slab the following day(Friday) on the top of Mt Herman.
lrudholm: no we did not make it to the waterfalls, I know they plow the road all the way to the parking lot but we run out of time on our ski out. I imagine it must be a pretty spectacular icefall.
Zap: I like the term veggie belay a lot. Once a year is about the right dosage.
Thanks!

What kind of carnage happened on table mtn Thursday?
Great TR and photos. I really enjoyed the photo of "Ian's Milk Run". Veggie belay's remind me: Been there - done that - geez were we lucky ! ;)
Excellent video...

Post must not be deemed too commercial... good thing.

Way to hit it, Don.
I would avoid the Slot Saturday, and try not to even think about it Sunday.

That looks sick! So are you using an extension off of your right pole to get that footage? Unreal.
Nice photos. I've been canoeing at Azure Lake and Myrtle lake during the summer. Always looked at the peaks and wondered about skiing them during the winter. Did you guys check out the falls?
Nice TR! We saw your tracks down the phantom path from over at Alpental... Do you think the slot would slide? We're considering it, but because of the large slides that the Alpy patrol triggered today... maybe not.
Try George's Bakery in North Bend next time Silas.
Sunday?
Sunday?
Love your videos Jeff and your choice of music to go with them. This one just great.
Damn , it looks so good up there.
" but it took true motivation to put the skis down for a day"..... I bet it did with conditions like that, ;D

Do you mean shameless, or Seamusless?
Do you mean "sounds" or looks?
Do you have some kind of issue going on here in TAY-land?
Sick commercial, Jeff. Thanks for the effort.

I believe he was trying to keep area on the DL to avoid the blocking of access, caused by "untrained" individuals that get their vehicles stuck... ;D

Could you drive up the Mt Loop further than Bedal??? I know the recent lowland snow will halt most action for a couple weeks...curious about blowdown from the last big wind event two weeks ago. Thanks
To points of fact: From Darrington you can drive or sled all the way to Barlow Pass before you hit a gate that closes you off to further access. I don...
Well I guess I can appreciate some areas with great access being kept on the DL. but my prevailing theory is that there is plenty of terrain...and aside from the slot couloir, i think there isn't any danger of BC moguls anytime soon. if there was every anything people should have been secretive about it would have to be mt. snoqualmie which is in easy striking distance of a million or so untrained skiers with new AT bindings.
Those larches in that zone are always so lonely.
Nice spooning in picture #3 -- Nice work Pico and John
Zap, some of your old skins made it accross the traverse!

It's snowing there now. I take it the road is not yet plowed past Early Winters? And how did you cross Cedar Creek? On a log or wading?
I've skied that ridge where you got your run in but I approached from the side trail right near the Cedar Creek TH. It was a great ski. Little too far for a day trip if you have park at Early Winters.
Did you happen to notice if...
Mission Ridge had way more snow than that. I was probing in protected trees today and it was 22-24". In the open, wind deposits were 3' or more in spots. No crust was touched except on steeper convexities exposed to the brutal wind.
Nice to see it's filling in over there. And thanks for the vagueness, John ;)

oh cryptic one, the mountains near Blewett Pass need not be referred to as East Slopes.
OK, OK, Savegondor, I know. But certain ones would have my head if I gave too much detail. Just having posted at all is bad enough, mostly it is for family back home and "the guys at work"!
I have to say, being called "oh cryptic one" does have a...

Thanks for the TR and photos. It jogged some old memories. Way back in the spring of 1997, I put together a small group to ski Gardner. After studying the topos and talking to Eric Burr, we decided to have NCH shuttle us into the basin below the summit. We setup a base camp and spent a couple days’ peak bagging and touring. Great terrain. A storm cycle moved in early and our exit route seemed painful. So we paid for the limo to fly us out between shuttles with the Warren Miller film crew. ...
