Well this telewhacker from the video is keeping the heel free and face planted...

Nice splicing Allen, thanks for putting this together!
Ahh... snowsnakes.... love thy snakes - for they really have no choice but to follow in awe the tracks you lay ;)

Rather than hide from and despise our serpentine bretheren, should one feel instead honored to have followers on the skin track? Can you not derive satisfaction from others utilizing your hard work?

In my opinion I find company in more remote places to be more of a pleasure than a burden. There is a unique property of our winter sport compared to others -- we le...
Pow & Amar, thanks for the pics, even tho they give me the creeps!  I've never been able to cross that bridge in the winter and it even bothers me in the summer :-[
Thanks for the additional info and the photos, powcarvin. I was also skiing at Mazama Ridge that same day, and was very curious where this accident had occurred. Like others, I was wondering "Was it a snow bridge, or an actual bridge with snow piled up on it?"  The photo clearly shows a log bridge with snow piled atop it, which is very important to know. And I'm very glad that you're OK, Liz, that looks like a nasty spot to fall in the creek.

The links to th...

James, telemarker for 12 years,  just bought an AT setup.... so don't count on too much more.
Hey, I'm from NY, you guys should integrate me into the East Coast Skier Club for the tele aspect  8)

Great job, and thanks for finally integrating some telemark!  Pretty fitting that the song used was from Powderwhore's 2008 video!

I'm the original poster on this thread. I apologize of the lack of information. I have some great photos that tell the story however I'm to technically challenged to format them correctly.

There is no doubt that if Liz did not fall someone else surely would have. The track laid to the bridge became a magnet for others that day. This crossing can easily be avoided by crossing the creek on the Paradise Valley Road.

As the sport of BC skiing has exploded with popula...

Looks like Brian brought his A-Game to these sessions ............  ;)

Allen is really good at editing.
Great pics, you always have some of the best!!!!! I ended up golfing in the rain in LA that day, so like experienced disappointing conditions :>).
Great vid Silas. I was out in CPB and experienced the same conditions. What a great day for skiing!!

No instability noted, not even a settlement.

Nit picky I know, but it sounds like you didn't note any collapsing (as opposed to settlement)
Settlement is the process of snow grains becoming smaller and more closely spaced due to gravity, essentially consolidation.

I'm glad you guys have been enjoying it!

Great photography Allen,

At least they weren't on snowshoes...

dude,  you got any of that to spare..?  excellent.
Having trouble getting the video to run (on my side I'm sure) but I'm willing to bet that March 2 is the editing date rather than footage date based on what it was like out there yesterday.
Great job, and thanks for finally integrating some telemark!  Pretty fitting that the song used was from Powderwhore's 2008 video!
Thanks for the report. I'm glad you mentioned the crust. I was at Alpy all day yesterday, and it definitely never rained, but it did get partly sunny for about a half hour to 45 minutes, which put the zap on some of the lower elevations for a while. However, heavy snow squalls toward the end of the day seemed to somewhat fix that. Sounds like the sun had more of an impact elsewhere.
Didnt check out the hut this time around, as we stayed near crags peak.
Technically I would not call it slackcountry since we rode no lifts, we were just kind of near them, just over the rope.  But as 8 was not running anyway, and when we came back in bounds we found the whole place deserted; they must have shut down the ski area way early.

It was evil out; we were lucky to salvage the day by finding somewhere that was somewhat out of the wind and just high enough to be above the rain.

Thanks Don for the impetus to bail from work and get o...
Great photos of the "white room".  It's been a couple years since touring at Kootenay Pass  and the Google map of your routes reminded me of all the terrain available.

Did you stop by the hut ?
Nice video....it really highlights the variety of terrain that the PNW skier learns to live and love...now hoping for the return of stability....thanks for sharing.
"Alpental is lame,Hyak is worse...those people should either dawn patrol or stay home"-- xtranormal.com
Thanks Guys. I hope there wasn't too many pics. If it is, just let me know if that's not okay. Thanks Marcus!

It was a pretty amazing place to be in winter...but a lot of time and work getting there and back. Worth it though.
Yes the 2 runs were good, very good in fact.  However I could have got more vert skinning and some exercise although maybe not in those conditions on much other than Hyak.  I might stick to my dawn patrols whens things calm down a bit.

Thanks for putting that together for sharing! Holden truly is a unique point of convergence, bringing together so many more communities than at first glance. I like the part about carrying the shards - and now you too have new dreams growing  :)

Glad y'all got it :).
Showed up at noon and found fresh tracks, awesome afternoon on 2!
Some of those pixels very well could have been me up there. I bumped into another team on the summit, who had came up from the other side (I took the east ridge, both up and down) -
After you powder princesses left, Alpental rallied with the reopening of Chair 2, and NO LINE at either lift all the way until close.  Precip let up as well.  It was a complete ghost town, with some lovely stashes that lasted well into the afternoon.

Hag, the quality of those 2 runs nearly justifies the queue, no? :)

Holy smokes. What a trip!
Great photo-essay, way to go Jason.
I'm considering heading up for some powder by headlamp this evening.
A zoo, a complete zoo.  Wishing I didn't waste my morning for a couple of runs.
Great Report, Jason.
Awsome Photos, as usual.
Thanks.
Stunning photos. I think I need to get a real camera- and learn how to use it :)

I took these pics of Wright with 3 skiers on top on the afternoon of the 19th.  Maybe it was your group?

There's no such thing as too much replying and photo posting!

Where is this place across the valley you referred to?

wow this sounds like good fun! good work all.
Gary and Jan,

Sorry we missed you! It was a good day for powder, but I would rather ski the back side of Maggie's anytime and avoid that flat slog out and back.
Yes I know that bridge and it can get weird . Gives me the creeps .
Liz ,Thanks for relaying your experience.
,One thing I try to do is to get my ski partners to carry a couple carabiners , two  or 3 slings
With one fitted to thier size/length as a diaper harness. A small rope,a couple prussick loops  and belay device .
This is not a full crevasse rescue kit  but a enough gear to handle your situation, belay for ski cut,  snowpit or short rap.
Next time, next time :) There's a big ditch below that one though...
Good! You discovered one of the other not-so-secret playgrounds, up the Lick Creek Road.  Stuff like this (pics from two seasons ago, but similar conditions to right now)

The upper half of one of my favorite runs.

Was it a snow bridge, or an actual bridge with snow piled up on it?  Good job you had dry clothes with you!  I usually don't carry enough for that kind of misfortune.  Welcome to TAY.

Then to another bridge below Bundy's, another pucker crossing for the Jibber.

I assume that's the one. I do not like that bridge. We usually figure out a way to cross higher up the creek.
Nobody seems to comment when Adappen makes a post and links to Wenachee Outdoors a non-profit, anti-mechanized website that contains commercial advertising.?????
I like reading both Adappens and Jeff Ward's and can't see the difference myself.
Inherent TAY bias against mechanized skiing???
Reading trip reports during lunch time is hit and miss for me. The entire office is quiet....except for me blurting out laughing at the funny things that I read on TAY. This was the third time this lunch break; I had to say something.
Thanks for posting Jeff, the stoke is appreciated, and it is always nice to get the conditions reports that you share here and you guys post over on NWAC.
