Nice!  Looks like we weren't the only ones making lemonade... :)
Great trip selection for threading the weather window.  Big day.
Way to get back out there, sounds a bit brutal but fun!

Great pictures Garrett. Just curiuos, the person with the quardrants, is he skiing on moment skis? curious what model if so...

Yup you got it.  He is on the Moment Night Trains.  I also skied those this winter and really enjoyed them.  Moment has not branded themselves as a backcountry AT ski company but they are all I use with Dynafits because they s...
Awesome TR -- that's quite the crew.  Also, really good to start seeing some of those big slabs cutting out.  Maybe things are finally settling...
thanks for the photo mick, that's an awesome perspective.
I am awfully impressed by Kyle's tenacity and stamina getting up Silver Star !!
Most excellent Amar, Kat, Dave C, Dave B, and Stephanie!!!!
Damn-it Amar,

You've single handily cost me over 1100 bucks, and you're going to cost me more with a trip report like this! You're the reason a dude in TX got into Skiing and more specifically, AT Skiing. Every time I see a TR of you and your pictures you make me wish I lived in WA (I'm working on that part).

On a side-note. Great shots as always, keep up the fantastic work and maybe one of these day i'll get a chance to actually ski with you if I e...

Damn, Kam, I want some of that.
Glad to see that you and Anastasia were on snow again.  You guys are in great shape.  That was quite the approach - true dedication.  :)
Great  TR and photos.  The powder turns in late May are a memory that will last a lifetime.  ;)
Nice TR, Ross... it was a great weekend!
Thanks, it is done by closing the aperture ring so it constricts the suns light, usually shot between f/11 and 16.

Thanks for the report, we found the exact same conditions yesterday on the Watson Traverse and it took about the same time.  We had really hoped to ski the headwall proper but after looking at it form the top it was pretty much overhanging and looked like crusty, punchy powder.  After skiing the first 1000 feet and looking up you could see an entrance on skiers right and we found out that the sn...
Thanks Patrick -- sounds like it was a party on the east side this weekend.  Think it'll last another week?
Nice Pete, glad you got the good weather.  We were solidly ensconced in that western wall of clouds, but it didn't rain on us until the last few minutes of the de-proach, at least.
Reasonable overnight freeze on Sunday produced some good corn skiing in the morning.  There has been a fair amount of skier (and even snowshoer traffic) up the hairpin valley over the weekend but there are plenty of smooth, untouched slopes in that area.

I was surprised to see a lot of people starting their day at 10 or even 11 in the morning.  They would probably disagree with my description of the ski conditions.  Things transitioned pretty quick from good corn to wat...
Thanks for the weather links and explanation Amar!  I think Cliff Mass is going to start doing some forecasts via youtube and, at least on the pilot one, he used some of the products found the UW site.  Maybe he'll start to unlock some of the secrets, but until then you have given me a good start.
good trip, great shots considering the variable light. What was the name of that shop with the skiis?
Mack & Dave,

Thanks for making the journey to PA, it was good to finally make some turns together.  :D

Wish stability would have been a bit better so that we could have explored some of the more interesting lines into the North Bowl. As Greg said, they will be there another day.

Here are a few pictures from the day;

     1. Mack making a "clothing optional" snow angel.

     2. Dave descending through the variable spring...
only 3 " of mush ? sounds fantastic .I'll be there tomorrow. No kidding.
I watched you guys come down. Unfortunately my 10mm/22mm wide angle did little to capture the action I was too far out I think - I waited for a while about 500 vf below Muir for you guys to cross back over and met Aaron on his way down -  I sent him this the image below via email. He has my info if you want the photos I took. I clicked off about 50 shots like the one posted.
Here is one I played with on photoshop. I'm no wizard or techie but maybe someone else with some skills ca...
Thanks for the TR
Just got back from the easy pass area, not a great day with mostly bad visibility and mush. Lots of broken trees at the bottom of the north face of Kitling peak from Wednesday. Also plenty of slide activity from today and yesterday on super steep aspects running into the typical avy paths. Amazing how much 3-4 inches of new accumulates into a large debris pile at the bottom.

Skinning was tough traversing but great for heading straight up. And the snow had a punchable crust (into mush)...
thanks for the update, I might head over that way to dodge some of this rain.
The above post is Vertigo inducing excellence!
Here is a link to a trip report from the Southwest Coulior on SEWS from 5/26/2011.

Enjoy!

Well you sold me on that trip, that looked awesome.
The front page has officially gone from remembering the past to anticipating the future. Things are  looking up.

OK, time to mount those size SM Fritschis. This post made my kid a little jealous. :D
Here's to many more front-pages for Little C ;)
Great stuff!  The world needs another strong young skin track setter ; )
Great report.  Thanks.  The camp on the Icy-Ruth Col looks like a classic, I may have to give that a try sometime.
WOW--FANTASTIC!  Excellent tr and photos...really appreciate it.
Newsworthy for sure.

Nice work, Andy.
*Bump* to add a trip report to my trip report.
Nice TR, Amar, looks like it was a gorgeous day. I'm a grad student in the UW Atmospheric Science department, so if anyone's got questions regarding the model output or anything else that they'd like me to take a stab at answering, I'm always happy to do so.

Nice report ! That's my favorite area as well. were you able to keep skis on all the way up to the Whitman?
Joe is right on about a good traverse to White river rd. Gary Vogt has often tried to get me to do it.

Skis were on all the way from Paradise up to 9500 ft on Whitman Glacier. Although it steepens significantly there, it would certainly have been pos...

You find that the UW model works well?  Obviously on that day they nailed it pretty well....Could you provide a link to where you are getting the info you quoted in the TR?  I looked around the UW site and found some products but nothing that looked to give me cloud cover and FL for a selected area.  Thanks!

Is this what your looking for? I've found it t...

Well maybe this is the year. I can start on my side. You guys start on your side. Exchange keys in the middle and drive to a meeting spot in between.

I love the first two pictures - looks like it was a sweet day to be up there!
Sweet trip! It sure was a nice day up there Tuesday.
