Way to go Mac!
Ale, it must be old an hippy jingle - you and I are too young to remember.
Joeda - good imagery - Mac, the axe, high heals and suspenders and bra, Mt Townsend.
OTH, you are right, it is time to hang up your lift pass and climb some mountains!!!

Thanks back to you, Amar, for an unforgettable day!
We skied out from Cowlitz saddle about a hour later in the rain.
Was that one of your crew's water bottle bottle I found at Golden gate?

For sure I mentally snoozed off thinking fat snow pack. It is mid june ya know .
Perhap?s Becky's "Cascade Alpine Guide" second edition pg 96 has the best picture of the Paradise Glacier major crevasse

Glad you had a good descent. The ski out to van trump was great, then barely covered. We managed to ski almost all the way to the trailhead, though it took some creativity getting through the sparse snow patches in the forest. A more technical descent than the finger, I'd even say.
Thanks for the company and very thorough TR, Amar. It was a fun day!
For those interested, such as Mr. Brown, Amar looked absolutely BEAUTIFUL all day long. We didn't take enough photos of him for personal, selfish reasons-- he's already got 3 of us girls hounding him to get out, and photographic evidence would surely steepen the competition for his priceless time and company.

Nice one boys! Love the log crossing with skis/splits on.
Thanks for the company, TR, & a fun couple of days!
Props to "b fury" as an excellent trip partner-- considerate, competent, laid-back, effervescent, and open to creativity in tent-site-positioning-schemes :)

I thought you were supposed to ski the Muir snowfield from Camp Muir.
Nice pano shots and lovely ladies ;-) You too Amar are, of course, beautiful.

Hi all,
I am heading up to hit Nash this Sat. on my way over the pass for fathers day and was wondering what the base coverage might be like, should I bring some approach shoes or will I be able to skin up from the base?
I haven't been able to make it up since the 21st of May so I am looking forward to it.
Thanks in advance for any info
Mike

Thanks for the detailed report. We were considering skiing Little Tahoma via this route the same day, but ended up on the south side of the Mountain and skied Cowlitz Glacier instead. Excellent smooth corn on the Cowlitz as well. May head up to the Fryingpan and Little Tahoma sometime this week while the trail is still fully skinnable.
We followed your tracks out to the bridge about 3PM. Those last few hundred yards of scrambling and bushwhacking were a suffer-fest (at least for us).
We missed you Nate - next time.
FWB, thanks -- I'll pass it along. Andy isn't really a fan of the skis he was on anyway, so may be ditching the whole setup, but I'll offer him my garage for a re-glue if he's keen on that.

Nice work, y'all! Sorry I couldn't rally for the goods -- but glad you got after it and had a great day!
strong effort guys, looks like some nice ski alpinism!
We also skied Diamond on Sunday. Went in from the Corrigan Lake trailhead just after 9 am. Were able to drive within about half a mile from the trailhead- I'd estimate 4600 to 4700'. Continuous snow started near the trailhead, maybe 4900', with patchy snow on more sun-exposed aspects. Skinned the entire way except for a short bootpack around a rock outcropping when we first gained the ridge. Our route also included the "Traverse from Hell" across the upper part of t...
Nice tour.
on the Dynafit skin issue... I had the same mfgs glue failure. They recommend re-glueing with BD glue. worked well. The Dynafit skins also soak up moisture more than other skins. Again, mfg recommended applying water repellant treatment. Seemed odd for brand new skins. With these I've been liberal and every other tour re-treated the water-repellant.

Nice report! Looks like sweet conditions. Almost did Diamond with Buell this weekend, but opted for the Middle Sister. Given the snowpack and weather this weekend in the Oregon cascades, I don't think one could go wrong on any of the peaks!
Thanks writing the tr for the idea to finish our left-over business up there. I'll get to one of my trs this week... trying to at least get to the pictures. It was interesting to randomly leave the Stuart Lake trail and land spot on the climbers trail first time. The regular ski and wide ars snagging of trees. The first log being slippery and a long crossing I was re-quessing my judgement half way across looking at it getting narrower and slipery-(er). Fun to go from standing to chaval...
FUN!! Great tour guys. Looked like some fine Spring turnin' and great weather! Bummer about Andy's skin glue - it was starting to show signs of failure two weeks ago on Stuart so I wondered if it was long for this world.
Sounds like a nice day out! I bet it felt good to ski it off the top. That boot pack looks steep.
Congrats! Pete, did you see my tracks down the south couloir on Argonaut? I ran in there the evening before you guys got there and took a quick lap on it ; )
Nice on both accounts!
I was wondering how I missed the TR on skisickness, but we where drinking in the smooth sounds of the chumstick liberation front with a guest appearance by Flora at the time.

ha..
Given the conditons, that would have been the wiser and much quicker route to take back.
We where questioning throughout the climb if the ghosts we could see where human, goat, or tumblers until we finally seen holes from axes near the top.

It's in such good shape right now -- smoooooth and buttery.
Nice! I thought I saw tracks on the upper E Face yesterday. Eric W and I climbed the coulior and the face last weekend but continued with our original plan of skiing the S Face of Argonaut and exiting out Porcupine Creek and Colchuck Glacier. Nice job on the coulior - must have been full value.

I'm sure he'll get a better report up soon, but he is buried in pile of recent trips that he has yet to get to.
That's a tough problem to have... ;)
Great TR -- sounds like some sweet new tricks for sure! Sporty indeed...
Nce tour guys..
south side of Jove is still looking great!

good stuff. We did Fortune yesterday, ascending on the S side of the ridge past Lake Camp Fire Girls. Fortune summit was a busy place. SE bowl was in great shape for turns.
We were up on the Paradise Saturday and found the same crevasse. A little probing showed the sides to be pretty solid and we found a snowbridge to use. Probably could have skied right across it. It looks to be an extension of the system that goes off towards the Cowlitz. Still, we didn't expect to see one. I know there are several just above that point towards the rock outcrop.

Well if they succeed in banning snowmobiles you can always go to Svalbard.
Looks like paradise. ;D

I wonder if they make them wear helmets there....maybe just one of those goofy hats and a flask of vodka.

Solo?
Yup
I pretty much followed your route today (June 12). Thanks for skin track to identify Bryant ramp entrance, and especially, for the boot pack.
I had sunny weather, maybe even too sunny. Strangely though, the slope Bryant Col to Melakwa was actually pretty frozen at noon.
I also used your ingenious cornice bypass to head up Kaleetan, but ended up not summiting because I was worried top gully slope had gotten too soft in the steady sun. Was already getting lotta boot pen lower...

However, I was disappointed when he started by informing me that there was no way he could cite any of the violators, since the one photo which shows a registration number shows no background to identify where it was taken, while the photos that do show the snowmobiles inside the wilderness have no visible numbers. This is a very annoying catch-22, as I explained to him that there is no p...
I pretty much followed the winter bootpack down because of fog and low visibility. Didn't even get over to the S side of the ridge.
p.s. to anyone thinking of heading up, do it soon if you want to ski the whole way. The bottom of the trail is melting out.

But you are way out of bounds of saying that we should only ride on roads and to say off the glacier!! We have already been restricted to very few areas to ride and every year they try to restrict us even more, it will come to the point were we will have no where to legally ride!!
So instead of getting all bent out of shape and saying we shouldn't ride on Baker at all, how about looki...
Perhaps suggesting to the USFS, a one or two year probationary period of agreed self-enforcement by the motorized users with an expectation of close to zero trespasses into the Mt. Baker Wilderness, might yield positive results.
Tracks within the Wilderness indicate violations.
Should the effort not produce significant behavior change and reduce the number "bad apples", stronger, more restrictive policies should then be considered.

Amar, I was one of the snowmobiliers that was in the second group that stopped and turned around. So if we were out of bounds then I am truly sorry! I am an avid snowshoer, hiker and skier as well and I can't stand people that break the rules and screw it up for the rest of us!!

How was the decent? Do you drop down "gunsight"? I have hiked the top many times, but never with my board. I really want to though.
