Indeed it was great to get out again Ryan I could not have been happier. Here are some of Andres photos.
Headline:  "Cham style slams Baker Summit Cone".

Nice work youth.
Awesome Crispin, thanks for sharing the trip.  That sunrise on Black Peak sounds spectacular.
Nice one you all! Glad you're able to get back out again Lisa.
Way to go Forest. Way to blaze through there!
Awesome!  My buddy and I are hoping to ski Broken Top later next week.  Looks like it should still be good, weather depending.  Nice pics of your trip!
Great report and a great time Lisa. That's a good shot you got of Elmo skiing from the top. I'll add pics later....Cascade pass is my new home....Too bad its almost July:(
Nice Lisa!  Sounds like a mixed plate of conditions with great weather.  Adding one of your pics here:

Excellent!  Thanks for the info!

I jut signed up as a member with the mountaineers.  What a great organization.  I'll definitely be looking for some groups to join and some courses to take from them.  That sounds like a great place to start.

I've skied the muir snow field a couple of time, but was worried about traveling on glaciers to didn't go beyond.  I've skied in the tatoosh a little.  Haven't been up to sunrise or chinook yet.  The north casca...
kevino,

Thanks, that definitely helps.  I'm excited to try this area out!

Dan
WOW ..that is a cool way to do it!  I will have to do my repeat that way some time, especially when rd. to cloud cap is closed.  WHAT A STUNNING POSITION.. Thanks for the "new way" info..
Way to play the conditions (conditions are everything I say..).

VERY COOL!!
That first picture Silas posted is me.  Thanks Silas!

Finally got around to signing up here.  It's not that I didn't want to, just never got around to it.

alecapone - What do you mean by "planned?"  I got an e-mail that some people were going up, then I got another e-mail that some other people were going up, so I joined the fun.  I don't think there was any really formal plan.

Some people were slacking, I went back down with a...
The parking area is actually just past the 20 mile marker on the cascade river road.  There is a large pullout and restrooms.  That is how you'll know you're at the eldo TH.  Walk back down the road to MP 20 and as Art said, there are two great logs for crossing.  Once into the forest there is a sign with some info about the area. From there the climbers trail is obvious all the way up to the talus field.  There are some rock carins that will guild you through...
What a great TR!! Nothing better then hitting it with the kids! We went hiking as my daughter is still recovering from a broken ankle.
The start is 19 miles up the Cascade River Road at the parking lot at 2160'.  (this from the book Selected Climbs in the Cascades Vol1 by Nelson and Potterfield) and the route goes up a trail and boulder fields up Eldorado Creek and then crosses the ridge at about 6000' to Roush creek then up to E ridge of Eldorado (this is shown on the map on page 68 of the book 100 Classic Backcountry Ski and Snowboard Routes in Washington by Burgdorfer).  Both of these books are in print a...
Happy 100th John!

I swore I was done with Stuart range this year but I think you convinced me to go for one more shot. Conditions on colchuck where still great, but no longer able to ride for the summit block, but about 100' below... unless you want to side step through rottensow on talus.

nd way to get up there as well CW!
wow,, looks like quite the gathering!

was this event planned?
Thanks Franklin..

I know my report is completely devoid of any useful info unless you are using pics for beta. There have been several recent reports that are floating around the webz anyways. Wasn't even gonna write anytng but the banana incident is driving me crazy.

Kath,

On the way out there where a couple guys having wine and cheese on the shore. They pointed out that someone was skiing down the glacier and the whole 'pic from afar' thing popp...
That's a really cool link-up.Three routes in one day.
No gully photos cause some low clouds rolled in.
Just sweet corn and a long steep run ;D

Art,

Great TR.  I have a few questions for you.  I'm new to the NW and am amazed at the backcountry skiing terrain offered here.  I grew up in Utah backcountry skiing for over 20 years.  I've done a few small trips here in the NW and have been dreaming of skiing in this very area you are reporting on.

Here are my questions.  You said "parked in the normal spot."  Where is the normal spot?
What is "the basin?"&...
Yep, my second time up this week. Has been great snow! Loving the quick access to the ascent as well.

bfree32 and I made up two of that group of three you met. I had the skins hanging behind me while skiing down, probably the one talking to you as a matter a fact. Nice to sort of meet you!
It was fun skiing with you today Silas. I'm glad we made it home safely even without brakes  :-[

I didn't get any pictures of you guys skiing, so these will have to suffice..

It was a nice surprise when Jack appeared at the party ledge sans Will with a pack full of eight brews.  Like a Fed Ex delivery : )
Sweet route!  CHW is seeing some action this year
Thanks Chris - I really expected to see you up there - It would have been a good day for the DPS skis. Definitely the best day of the spring for us.
Yeah, lauds to Jack.  BTW, did all the beer get consumed up there?  Hope so.  For the record, I did my part : )
Good times!  And a thank you to Sherpa Jack.
author=cumulus link=topic=21233.msg90932#msg90932 date=1308772069]I think just about everybody including myself forgot their camera (or lost it!)...  I'm cribbing some from Will, who refuses to join TAY with the same adamancy that TAY refuses to make picture posting easy. Will's a great photographer so maybe there's a correlation...

Sweet pictures -- looks like a great time... though you're mistaking a lack of abundant fr...
holy crap that was fun... best solstice ever!  All the people I toured with most this year were there plus a sizable and stylin representation of nwhikers-on-skis.  Only downside was also the upside; I slacked a bit on the dog-toting-beer fed high quality social lazin' in the sun with the million dollar views due to almost constant motion...  so many good lines to ski!  Two nice ones on the west side where on the second run I ran into Rob who had a solid eye on that NW coolie to finish off...
sweet .. we were thinkin of heading up there but got a sickie here .. maybe next week ..

anyhow great to see you getting out to ride .. i've been going over all the footage and spent some time on goode with you ... epic trip!
Road is snow free and in good shape to a couple hundred meters from Windy Pass.  We skinned from the car.
Very nice Steve and Peter. I was thinking it would be a great day up there as I looked at Rainier from my office. ;)
Glad you got some.
Funny - I hadn't thought how much of a "climber & conditions" report this was rather than a "downhill" report, but I definitely see that now.  Mostly I don't like skiing with the camera out - I've ended up with snow inside my lens before ;) Also probably helps that we had great weather on the up and zero visibility on the down.
How far up the road were you able to drive?
Great TR Lowell!  It's inspiring and hope that some day I'll be able to bring my kids along on a ski tour....
Like the report. Nice you got back to the 'chants for Colchuck.  A little different from teh last trip in there -lol.  And nice pics of the NE Col on Argo.  That and the upper face have taken on new meaning ; )
