TR Replies

I must admit I am a tad bit jealous.

Nice work!
That seems about as natural as I could imagine Jill -- Crystal should be great with this weather.  Go get it! :)
Wow, that looks like a really great run.  Nice to get an idea of what's down in Oregon.  Thanks for sharing.
Thanks shred, appreciate the info.
Well articulated TR, buddy.  Way to make the most of your trip back!
Thanks for the excellent trip report. Always a pleasure to tackle another peak with you Susan. Great trip.
Nice Chris!  Looks like you scored the goods and timed it perfectly.  I need to get on that route sometime soon!  I disagree with you on one thing though - Oregon sucks, especially in the spring, and anyone thinking of moving here should reconsider because all it does here is rain ;)
That looks like a great trip. Cool route, thanks for the map.
Excellent photos too.
Oh, and if you are ever in Woodland and need to get a tire fixed, I know just the place.
Definitely one of my top 5 corn runs ever.  I used a Swix F4 liquid wax, maybe why the snow never felt grabby or mushy rim to parking lot.

Impressive how the lava dome has grown over the years.
Finally had time to edit some video...

Thanks for your company Thursday evening in the parking lot.  I clearly have a lot to learn about car camping cuisine.

Yoshiko, you rock.  What's next - Rainier?
Cool pics!
Looks like fun
Thanks for the ride home Steve and Randy!
Glad y'all got some of that sweet corn :D

Looks like a good mission. Having surf and turf on the menu is hard to turn down. Its very relaxing surfing out at shi-shi.
Matt, you can drive within 2 miles of the trailhead.
Corn bliss ;D ;D ;D

Congrats to Yoshiko!

snow 1/4 mi after the second gate
Thanks for the photos!  Can you provide a little more info re: road access for those of us who don't know where the gate is?
In the "top five"! Say no more.
Nice, had some good skiing in the Methow, but no better than that.........no need to drive for snow!
Nice Work!  It was cool running into another Ohio'an in the parking lot.  I was the random dude that asked you for a picture with the "Made in Ohio" shirt.  My family was really excited about that!
amazing photos, both the professional panorama, and the up to the waist one! What approx elevation was the up-to-waist one taken at?
It's fantastic to see you skiing again Zap! Don't let this next hurdle get you down.

I trust you will be skiing soon enough. Your strong will alone is enough to battle any ailment.

You have an amazing woman at your side cheering you on as we all are, so keep up the positive attitude you two as I hope to see you on the slopes soon.

The Mayo Clinic is the best, you are in good hands there.

Best wishes to you both!
It warmed up significantly the 6th, 7th, and 8th, and the Fischer Chimneys are west facing.  Now it looks like it has cooled back off.  I think you'll be fine there now.  Not likely to be any pow on that aspect (or anywhere really).

That's funny because those tracks belong to my friend and I.....we actually didn't have the best visibility....the reason we didn't take fall line.....apparently by the looks of you photo.....things got better.  The snow was so deep on Winnie's!

Wow, there is that much unconsolidated on winnies slide?????? We are heading up there this weekend t...

The lake being "Rainy" and the summit being "Preacher"?

Somehow you cracked the code  ;)

There's good ski terrain up there.  Though, I wasn't expecting so many large cliff bands.  That was a nice surprise.  I might have to go cragging at the lake later this year...
Are sure these Docs just aren't doing this just to ski with you ?
Seriously ZAP , good luck with this next challenge.
Hey guys, I've got a tiny condo at Alpental and would be happy to go out on a short backcountry trip with Zap.  Your description of how time on skis helps with difficult situations really resonates with me.  PM or email me anytime if Zap wants to get out and Jill can't.

Cheers.
I got a feeling that the Zapman will weather this storm with flying colors.
Go get 'em Zap & Jill  :)
Regardless of the bike ride to the Sloan Pk TH - I think the creek crossings could be troublesome in high water conditions. There were solid logs on all three when I was there two years ago.

Seconded.

From personal experience I think you are both right..............  ;)

Have fun in Ireland Brian, sounds like a great opportunity!

Gary
That's a big day Tyler! You have been a busy boy this spring.  :D

Your still photos appear to be the same line a group of us skied last July, it was a lot of fun.

Gary
Y'all rock.  Keep us posted on the word from Mayo.  Mystery lung problems suck, it's great that you have a path forward.  We'll be thinking of you!
That's funny because those tracks belong to my friend and I.....we actually didn't have the best visibility....the reason we didn't take fall line.....apparently by the looks of you photo.....things got better.  The snow was so deep on Winnie's!
Glad you're still skiing and I hope to hear good news from the Mayo Clinic in the near future.
You are the king of positive energy. We are cheering you awesome attitude.
author=GregSimon link=topic=24730.msg104478#msg104478 date=1336574995]Does it still look skiable to the Nisqually bridge?

On Sunday it skied really really well up to the point Amar mentions (about 600 yds from the bridge), after which there is a bit of mud scrambling and rotten snow postholing to the road.
Great Day! Great Skiing!
I appreciate everyone's concerns, but we all felt it was safe to continue our route. All went well (minus the broken ski!), and it was a great learning experience.
The lake being "Rainy" and the summit being "Preacher"?
Thanks for the heads up Amar.  I finished editing the photos and changed the Picasa album they are hosted in.  Speaking which, full res photos (including some from our trip to the Illumination Saddle the day previous) can be found HERE.
Good for you for getting out Amar, hope you feel better.  The picture on where to ski is cool.  Hope to be there in a couple of weeks ;-)
couldn't tell from the pics, did you use crampons booting up? tia.

Great report. A friend and I have talked about a similar trip from our front doors in Portland to Mt Hood, but that's all the further we have taken it. Nice work.

Yeah, I have thought of that, too -- probably take the train to Portland and start there with some friends. Though we hadn't thought of routes yet. Is there any bike route other than Hwy 2...
