Did you do anything to get your pooch to tolerate the "doggles"?
My mutt -- even in really bright sun -- works hard to dislodge them and knocks them off pretty quickly.

There was alot of debris from previous slides. They looked like large avy's too. So all in all, I'd say a pretty decent amount of activity. While skinning, often times the downhill ski would slide off the track and sometimes would propagate, but nothing ever ran more than a few inches.
That looks like a fun area. Love the dog-gogs.
Way to get after it - that sounds like quite a haul, especially after Mt. McLoughlin and hotel hell! Awesome pictures of the lake, and from the day previous on McLoughlin. Mt Scott seems like a tough one - I tried it a couple years ago, waiting until June for the road to melt out (just barely), but by then the mosquito swarms were so intense that they drove us away.
Hmm, looks like you're right... we seem to have missed our right turn. Too many couloirs on that south face, hard to count over from the summit and figure out which one you're supposed to drop in to. The alliteration isn't really there for "southeast route corn harvest", but the turns remain fantastic. Guess I've still got Ulrich's and Cascadian left on the tic list.
Thanks for the report. Glad you had a safe, fun trip. Any other objective snow analysis after the observed "whumpfing"? It may be "spring" but there is still a deep and reacting snow pack out there!

HA! I just posted our trip a second ago!
Great work, that's a haul! I tried it a couple years ago but bailed in the heat about halfway up stuart. Based on you map it looks like you may have skied down the southeast route, not the Cascadian. The Cascadian doesn't dump you that close to turnpike creek drainage.
Guess that was the place to be Sat. Great weather! Those of us with late afternoon birthday commitments had to stay local. But a few were wishing they were on Rainier.
Awesome -- I love trips like this.
FYI, you can link directly to the pictures in your Picasa album -- there are more instructions in the "Photo Posting Guidelines" at the top of each month's section. Right-click and copy the image or picture location that you want to link, then paste it into the "IMG" tags. If you quote this post, you can see how it should look.

Nicely done Scotty! Would love to see more pics should you have some to link. Cheers!
Removed a post -- if folks want to discuss snowmobile use in the backcountry, Random Tracks is the place for that.
Those are special memories for the kids.
This link will actually work. Sorry about that!

Good TR! I did the NE bowl once and had an interesting traverse back to the trail.
How about Mt. Scott?

I stay on top and have a blast making so many turns in so little a space.
That's my kinda skier!
Thanks for the great report.
Great meeting you Jonathan, Jeff and Josh! Merci for letting me tag along. A beautiful (and hot) day.

Surely a better story than a regular, fair-weather ascent of the CD.

Nice report! Hit 10k for the day or just shy of it?
According to my watch altimeter, a mere 450' shy.
By that stage though, I was in no mood for mathematical goals . . . although topping out at Camp Muir again in such beautiful weather did keep me heading up long after I'd already had enough work and skiing for the day!

Can you tell what it is?
I'll tell you what it is. Jamie is such a bushwhacking he-man that he just threw his skis up on his shoulder and never took them down. We carried our skis from the car at 2000' all the way to 5600' before putting our skis on, and the only time the skis came off Jamie's shoulder was when we were scratching our heads...
Fun trip for sure! Here are some photos from the trip that all have one thing in common:

- nice mapwork, and good style on the sticky runout !
^Well said.
To suggest that a "stake has been driven through the heart of" another gem spot is a bit over the top and gives the destructive power of TAY too much credit.
In any case, if the NCNP expansion proposal ever gains traction, conversations about how the area is used could put Ruby in the spotlight, as the park boundary would gobble it up.

Loved the awesome trip report. The picture of the sled and bike is a classic. I got a sled this spring and love that can now access all those snowed over forest service roads. (Plus the corn on the south side of Baker.)
Thanks for sharing the stoke!!

Loving the seat of the pants attitude. Looks fun. Maybe you should have used a hot air balloon.
