Hey Brian, sorry I missed you. I was up there for a training day. Kneel Turner and I did a lap in the late afternoon. Surprised how good it was. FAT skis make the mashed potato world go round. I imagine your board floated just fine eh? Ed did at least one more lap in the gathering disk after I left. He's an iron man.
Thanks for all the nice kudos. I have to add that it did snow, so we did go back. It was a whole new day with big powder, deep turns, and smiles a-plenty.

I test drove a new rig for a couple of laps mid-afternoon. Ran into a couple of youngsters having a safety meeting in the patrol shack up top. Brush slalom!
Skiing was most excellent on the upper mountain. Had international all to ourselves, then we were a bit surprised to see the gongshow of people that had formed on the lower mountain while we were up top lapping pow.
35cm at parking lot turned into 90cm (mostly new snow, maybe 10-20 solid base below) above 4k. Pit yielded a slight wind layer at 15cm, but all sugar on top, no shear results. Some brush skied, but no base scratches car-to-car.

Good bumping into ya again this morning, Silas. It's certainly been awhile...
Enjoyed seeing the news clip while I was at work last night. Made me feel better and work harder to find time to get out in the next few days...
Mike and Jamie, I bet those two reporters are eagerly looking at this website to see THEIR pictures!
Nice pics! Too bad the dog didn't get on the news.

jtack and mikerolfs congrats. Much more than fifteen seconds of fame on the King5 5PM news. Strong work, no doubt someone will post the weblink so we can see your tv spot over and over.
Looking to see you on the news, if not tonight then later in the weekend. This would be a cool Jeff Renner bit...
Hmmm; marginal day of skiing or great day of working? I'm guessing you won't fade into history saying you'd rather have worked one more day! Nice job gettin' it! Much better than last weekend's mash potato fest.

I know… I seriously need to meet this guy and do some adventuring!

Back to the original TR, did anyone note that runcle was pedaling uphill on SNOW, with skis on his back? Way to Earn Your Turns 8)
The only time I biked with skis it crushed my spirit (temporarily---we had overnight and mountaineering gear).

Sorry 'bout that folks. Website has something about a ski swap this Sat, but nothing abt what is going on with an evening event this year. That indeed was last years.
The ski swap is this Saturday at the Vern Burton Community Center.
Nice work Doug! It's nice to see things turning white out that direction. :D

it's cracking me up that my syncro is the highlight of the TR, but then again, i kind of agree. lust for a 4wd vanagon was one of the big factors that ended my 2 year stint as an unemployed snowboard bum and got me back to full time work. i picked the van up late last winter and all but gave up rock climbing this past summer to get her in shape for winter. it was a lot of "work" but seemed worth it when i folded out the newly upholstered bed in the snowy trailhead parking lot. ...
Wow! She's filled in a lot, since your last adventure!
I miss VW's...Wife finally said enough...
You have a build thread on the van somewhere?
Nice trip.

Okay… so I'm a little confused. Went to hurricaneridge.com and not sure if this info is for 2012 or 2013. Anyone know?

Not trying to be a dick but isn't the 17th a Sunday or am I reading this wrong?

Awesome!
Looks like Baker is the best place for the foreseeable future to still get the goods!

Was there before the mid-morning onslaught of lifties training for chairlift-stoppage rescue and other snow lovers. Able to get 2 runs in before 9 AM. Sweet mashed taters, just in time for Thanksgiving!!!
thanks for the report Kristina
I went on Sunday. Originally wanted to do Double Diamond but it didn't look to have good coverage, so I only did Showcase.
Up high some deeper (still heavy) powder; fairly compacted snow on top of the crust below 4700' and turning wasn't super easy even on a freshly waxed board (CH8) so I can imagine it was even harder for skis.
Snow wasn't anything to write home about but still great to be out there.
Also enjoyed a cold beer and a side of fr...

That tutu is going to be awesome on a waist deep blower pow day.
Thanks! I'm looking forward to skiing some tutu-deep pow!
The aftermath and high clouds, you can make out Glacier on the horizon to the left
A bit late on the pictures, but these are too classic not to post. Word to the wise, if you're following me down a hiking trail with 6" of snow on it do NOT try to copy what I do. I'm really stupid and somehow things seem to work out for me, you may not be so lucky.

Thanks for posting the beta… I'm glad to hear the road is easy
