Great ski! Great photos, green with envy!
Wow, what a sweet way to bag October. Thanks for the idea... full moon riding, hmm, tasty.
+1 for all of the above. I woulda called it pseudo-corn, but man was it enjoyable, ripping fast!
No clouds, no wind, huge views and temps that rivaled madison beach on a hot Seattle day. So perfect I had to ski shirtless...it's October?! I froze my ass off up there in August.

(kciari, I parked next to ya'll...
Look at where we live...  Damn.  There is no place else to be.
At Timberline, mt. Hood in the p.m. it was the same balmy weather
* What a station.
Great trip with a great groups of guys. Can't wait to ski with everyone again!

Also, for anyone passing through here in the future, this TR should be listed as "Skyline Divide"

Here is the link to a few photos from the trip:

I was the gal in the tutu going for 24-months, and this TR is spot on.

That was classic - thanks for adding some more color to camp!

Purchase of a Cascades Volcano Pass is required if you are climbing above 7,000 feet elevation in Mt. Adams Wilderness, between June 1 and September 30. The Cascades Volcano Pass is a Recreational Fee Program.
Thanks for  the report!!  Do we need to buy permits for this time of year?  Still FS Trout Lake?
I was the gal in the tutu going for 24-months, and this TR is spot on. The snow was great and skiing was fast and fun! I agree with the TR from the 20th as well - you want to head down earlier than later and there was a lot of melt even over the course of the day. I swear it must have been 80-degrees by the time we hit the top of Pan Point. I was skiing in shell pants and a tank top and was still super warm.

A flagrant disregard for base gouges and ability to unweight on asphalt made for a trip almost to lot on Saturday with no damage to vegetation.  The snow was already VERY thin and more were coming down behind us, I can't imagine it would have been possible on Sunday even if you wanted to get a free base grind to start your season.

Those were by far the best October turns I've ever had and the biggest group I've ever had out.  Great day for month 47 :)
No need to be modest when the conditions are great! A wedding party walked by when I was changing in the T-Line parking lot on Saturday.  For a minute I thought,  "should I feel embarrassed?"  Well.. maybe 1/2 a minute. That sun was really nice.
Some things cannot be unseen...
Man, it's melting fast! We were able to ski down Pan pt, right at the spot in your second-to-last photo, on Saturday, but just barely. The snow was really better than I expected. Beautiful corn up high.
Pavlas,

Had a great time skiing with you guys again. Was nice to meet Juya finally and your friend.  I also could not believe how hot it was up there. Going in my shells even zipped was too hot for me.

For the folks that are looking to go up, the skiing is amazing if you turn around at about 1pm as of now with the temps holding the way they are.  The snow was fast and amazing. We took skiers right towards the Nisqually area, then banked hard left around 8500 and...
Way to go - definitely a great call to hit Muir this weekend.
I'm happy that the Dynafit TLT bindings got you out on skis for a change, and that we were able to meet in Portland.  Thanks for the intro to Next Adventure and cool Ski Logik tshirt!  :-)
Phil, there are two girls in the background of this photo, good enough?
Nice polite Rangers/Volunteer Rangers were out and about today telling people to carry their skis/boards until Pan Pt and in place to tell them to take them off again during the descent.  Lots of skis tracks from yesterday all the way down to the Dead Horse Creek Trailhead and Paradise Parking lot; obviously got the Park concerned about vegetation with the snow melting out in numerous places.
Thanks for the update. I was very interested and waiting patiently to see a report from Muir. Good to hear it was skiing well!
Oh wait, I was there on Wednesday...

Christoph,
I was up there on Tuesday as well, did I run into you and a buddy (and a hound) at the top of the Palmer?

That was some creamy, sweet, corn!

Yeah, I was on skis, buddy on a split and a German shepherd dog? Are you the fellow from port Angeles?
nice action pic on the last one!
Nice - way to get after it!  Reminds me of the early Fall/post Summer outings up Baker going back 10 yrs. now.
True silaswild style would have photos of beautiful girls, just saying.

Good news.  Looks like the forecast for clear nights could continue similar conditions through the weekend.
Really great trip. Thanks for the detailed post. I have tried this trip early in the season and turned around because conditions were better suited for playing on ice than skiing. I am glad to hear it is a worthy trip if conditions are right.
Seriously - good to see a Dog & j TR for sure.
Oh man, this is the BEST. A TR from ronj and MadDog have become rare gems.

This is like flashing back to the good old days circa 2003 when I started into this sport with you as my mentors.

Looks awesome!!
snow is such amazing stuff, great turnsss.

looks nice , I'm thinking why wasn't I there ?  :)
The photo was taken Sunday around noon. The skiers are on the summit ridge, to the right of the big rock buttress, right where the ridge starts to flatten out as it approaches the true summit.
Thanks for this report and pics!  Looks also like a good option for when Easton/Squak are crushed with machines..
Did anyone ski the center chute shown in the below photo? We contemplated that last week but thought it was a bit early.

Also, ebeam, very cool aerial photos. Thanks! I can't quite place the 1st one vis-a-vis our trip on 10/9. do you know when and where that was taken?

Jill and I are in NH with the grandkids and you made my day.  You "kids" are back to skiing.

Great day and nice turns with MadDog !

The closed portion of the MF road had a posting about bikes.  Allowed only on odd days and then no bikes after Nov.1, so to follow the rules in early winter you'd have to walk, and to follow the rules now, you can stay over night if you stay two nights.

That is referring not to the road but to the
Looks like enough coveraqge to be able to ski all day! At least, Silas Wild might try to, he of the 10000-foot ski-area days!! Wish I lived closer; MUCH nicer than the 600 feet of complete frozen I used on Sunday at Stevens Pass...
sounds like a fun mission whether you skied or not!  nice work.
Mtbakerguides’ and Freebird’s reports (both excellent) probably had something to do with the at least 6 different groups skiing Ruth last Sunday (many making the long drive from Seattle). I don’t know if that qualifies as the “TAY horde phenomenon” I’ve read about in other trip reports but since so many folks seem to be heading up there this fall I thought I should post two aerial photos passed on to me of the large new crevasse near the summit.

On Sunday, most groups were stopping at...
I like that you guys went for it even though the coverage was low.  You got a great night out of it, and some turns the next day.  I saw similar coverage on Overcoat and I just ran out of stoke.  Your report makes me question turning around. - a little.

Another option for Overcoat is to go up the PCT from Pete Lake, then follow the N fork of Lemah Creek up the valley and cross a col to the northeast of Chimney Rock.  I did that late Spring a few years ago and it worked pretty well.  Probably not so much in the fall, however, due to wandering below avalanche paths that would be unsavory if the brush weren't covered.

I was up there this weekend. The Table snowfield is smalllllllllllllll....but we got in a few turns. Easy bootpack laps.

No idea on going out on Ptarmigan. Lots of walking and little skinning from what I could see.

Thanks for the beta - this is really helpful for planning!
