Stupid question: Since the road closed 12/3, how did you get there? Sno-mo or chopper or just a really long approach? :)

That looks awesome!  Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the info... Now that I think about it, I used to do the same.  When I worked as a patroller recently, our boss had us communicate everything to him in metric, even elevation of pits, etc.

Thanks for the TR, and great pics.
I do have a question, just curious:  Why do you post snow depths with metric measurments, and elevation in US customary units?  Seems a bit odd...

Good question.  Most professionals in North America communicate this way.  Essentially everything below the snow surface gets measured in metric and everything above gets measu...

That is quite a triumph after a major  surgery. Must have been quite satisfying after all the pain, disability and rehab- not to mention cost. Congrats.
Great news! Being a guy who has ome back from past injuries, I can imagine your smile...good job!  :)
You mean the new Stupider Chair?
All was very stable on north and west facing slopes.
Sounds good, Silas.  BTW, check your email.
nothing wrong with a little stone grind to clean off last years pollen.

Thanks for posting! Would be awesome to stay up to date on E Sierra conditions during the season. Happy trails.

Whoohoo! Nice to see there's finally some snow up there. Which lodge are you referring to? I was thinking of starting near the main Summit Central lodge and skinning up the Golden Nugget alpine run to access the nordic trails that way. Or maybe there's a different route with better coverage?

Toured the backside today. Was very good. Stable powder, sunshine, employees making laps and riding the chair up, stating they were "working on the lifts."
I met the Mountain Manager, Avalanche Forecaster and another employee heading down just as I finished my skin up.  I think they were a little jealous of those of us who got there ahead of them, but I have...

Nice powder turned into windcake last night. Southfacing was skiable. Lower down on sheltered runs was still soft.

The snow at Stevens pass is currently awesome. Lapped lifts all day with very few other people, and they opened 7th and Kehr's in the afternoon, so we kept getting freshies all day.

"Awesome" is an accurate description.  It's rare to get it that deep and cold - without much of a crowd.  It was Debbie's birthday and she timed it...
Wow… nice adventuring mac!

I'm glad I missed the rain… and it looks like the weather has turned for the better.

I'm looking to get out on Monday and hoping the conditions stay cold.

There are some things that always grace my pack.

Thanks---I should have grabbed the plastic poncho much earlier, and left my wallet and phone in the car ::)
Braver than I.  Got there at 8:30, it was raining hard. Temp was not encouraging. Wallowed through parking lot slush to the lodge. Couldn't bring myself to purchase a ticket and get a complimentary garbage bag. But did get two candy canes from santa on the patio. Checked in with patrol about uphill travel. They were great but questioned our sanity. Decided to fold the cards and head home. Yup… a selective day. Good job telemack!  Was a good day for testing goretex or a garbage bag.
Nice, Randy - way to time it!  I'm heading up tomorrow.  Let me know if you can sneak away for a tour.

that is a well made video!  great work!

[Thanks Stefan, this only took about 20 minutes to make on my iPhone with the cheesy little iMovie app! (:]
So glad I made Monday a better day for those going back to work. And I think the snow in the mountains did too! Cheers and lets hope for more snow and cold temps.
While I think it's an interesting exercise I don't think the avalanche mapping is very helpful or accurate.  The names are also on the wrong features, especially along the Arm, it looks like they moved everything over one feature.

The summary of their efforts is that everything at Baker is dangerous during and immediately after a storm and that avalanches start at the tops of hill and end at the bottom.

Touring the Alder in the valley is fun!  Best done in spring when it is still laying down flat :)
Good work! I'm quite jealous at the nature of the skiing down those dunes! I tried poaching a few turns at the OR sand dunes a few years ago, and was able to skin up without skins and had to push my way down the steepest section... i think it was too late in the day and it was just all mank!
Here, Someone at WWU made a guide for the Bagley Basin already.

Bagley Basin Safety

Nothing else needs to be said. Keep the pounders confined to "the backcountry" and let the gapers get carried. No better way to learn a lesson than to experience your poor decision making skills firsthand.
You just made my Monday morning so much better!

Thanks for the intel, which corroborates the Doppler.
very creative on use of time, place and media!

We were up there on Turkey day, but sadly did not bring our skis, we talked to the folks who run the Rimrock Dam store, they work at the pass when they open, and it sounded like there is a little more snow higher up the Hogs back. Nice to hear you scratched out a few turns.

on our first run, ski cutting the slope released a slab.  so we decided to tiptoe our way down and then just lap the small patch of trees on the north side of table, which required us skinning up that run through the trees.  we felt that was safer than taking another sketchy entrance from the top.

Your decision put you at more risk. There is no treed zone in th...

What?  A bolly film with no lip singing and dancing!!!  Refund please.

Nice work Donni.  Glad you made some good fun out of the lack of snow.

[[We were so bummed our Rogers trip was cancelled Gregg, we had to go seek out a few turns somewhere! (: Donni]

Nice turns on the dunes!
Brilliant - thanks!

Thanks for the report and pic's. The slides in your photos sure look like wet slides from the rain event and resultant avy cycle. Note the fresh snow on top as the storm cooled off towards its tail end.

Finally back from the East Coast (not a recommended ski destination!).

Pete_H, your words have iron.  The pictures I took all suggest slides from...
Hey Don, I recognize that pose in your third photo    8)
Walked around in the rain on S. Bessemer 11/29. Wet mist up to 5k had us good and wet. Mostly supportable thick crust in boots. Sunny aspects had been cooked by the sun. Vaguely skiable above 4.2k, but surely not worth the trip on skis. One of the three of us had a good time trying out his snowshoes on the crust.
Thanks for the conditions report, Eric!
I was one of the other two skiiers that you saw down low, below Pan Point.  We were on a bit of time crunch, and got worried that the chutes might not corn up.  We opted to just shoot over to Mazama Ridge for a few laps, assuming that if the snow was bad we could take off quickly.  We found the great corn that you did on the more southerly facing slopes, and got in a few short, but fun laps.  I'm just going to tell myself that since we wouldn't have gone all the way...
