This is a great trip report and photos. It reminds me of a trip I did with my wife Jill who was then my fiance, and brings back many wonderful memories. :)

Digging the gaiters, what kind are they?
Further investigation revealed that there was a hidden label in the depths of the blue gaiters: "Powderline: Made in the USA" .... !
Glad to hear the Goat Rocks approach from west via FS Road 21 is now open to Snow Grass Flats trailhead. At the beginning of June we spent two days skiing at McCall Basin. but we approached from the east via FS Road 1207, the North Fork Tieton Road, which is still closed to cars and barricaded about 5 miles from trailhead. The closure is due to a weak bridge, according to the Forest Service. Using a mountain bike to ride up the closed road to the trailhead is helpful, but this...

Skip has been eyeing more or less this route since we were nearby right after opening 2 years ago. We were pleased to be able to ski right from the bumper with only a short walk on flat trail up by the ridge crest to get to where we dropped over onto the back side on nice fast corn. We farted around a bit figuring out how best to drop into the drainage that feeds Forest Lake, soon enough re...

My apologies for being delayed in responding.... the gaiters are from Colorado, there are no identifying labels on them, and they are simple in design - just Velcro closure top to bottom, no additional fasteners or strings etc... Happy Solstice skiing!
According to the FS webpage (http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/okawen/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5392379) it is not open.
Yeah, that was fun to watch. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the pic of your safari from the day before; as you you had mentioned it when we talked Saturday AM. Thanks for the trip report. Looked pretty sweet!
Nice TR, Rowan! Nice to meet you and Alex an Saturday AM. Way to get the goods!
Does anybody know if FS Road 1207 is open? I know the bridge was closed some time ago. Thinking about using it to access McCall Basin.
Jill and I came to ski when Bachelor opened the lower lift area. The Vail Ski and Snowboard team just finished their training. I waited to skin the Thunderbird training run under the Pine Marten express lift. The West Village Lodge parking lot is closed so the walk to get to the lift was too long. There were 4 cars with skiers but the walk was too long for us to get to skinning snow at Sunrise Express lift. We parked at the gate for the Skyliner Express. We walked about 150 feet to the snow at t...
Thanks to all.
Yes riding the public transit with all your gear makes life a little more interesting.
Would be great to get over to Hoikkaido next time.

Thanks for the report!
Thanks for the report!
NICE JOB! What a "position" that route is!!!
I teled this route years ago (now a 62 year old chest beater..) and like you guys, was glad I did not climb it first--so as to limit exposure to objective hazard (that rock to the right of the 'chimney' would not be something I would want to spend much time underneath..not to mention how that slope could rip/or slough..) I cheated and took the cat up to the top of Palmer and then met a nice couple just...

We'll have to ask our pal Paul, who I don't think frequents the site. I think they're just some old random blue pair of hiking gaiters w/o the string that goes around the arch of the foot to hold them down. I believe Skip, in the rear of the parking lot photo, has termigaiters on.
No obvious showstoppers when viewed from afar/below.
Way to use the trailhead less-traveled!

You guys crack me up! Love the good attitude ... photos are great... a good story... thanks for sharing
I skied from the top of White Salmon in early July of 2012, and I do not recall it being too steep, maybe 35 - 40 degrees towards the top. As for the schrund, we were able to easily go around it. It has been two years, so the schrund maybe different now.
where is David?

did this trip make this happen?

just some thoughts from a hardbooter... the f1's arent gonna quite as good for kicking step up steep cause of the bellows, those lasers are too much boot.
also, the board youre riding there, while great probably for powder isnt gonna be the best for steep corn. you'll want something with more effective edge and a longer radius sidecut....

We chatted with your guys at the lot after coming back exhausted hauling our overnight gears around. Your tracks looked mighty impressive!
you fellas picked quite a spot to spend the night! would be stoked to see your photos if you brought the camera along. the space is a beacon to a talented photographer im sure. nice to meet you guys!

I chatted with some of your group at Pikers Peak and again at the summit. Here's a photo of the revelers at the summit. It looked like good times were being had by all!
Fun weekend! Congrats to Carla and happy birthday to Shawn.
Now that was a party! Great skiing and fun people. Thanks for guiding us down with continuous snow!

Finally processed and uploaded a few pics:

Agree with all above, Route should certainly be taken seriously with the risks associated with it.
Also, Samski, thank you much for the TR on Snowdome. The picture of cooper spur on your site proved vital for beta since we decided not to ascend the route. I also drove up early the night before to take pictures, but the lighting wasn't great, so I had yours saved to my phone for reference points.

Should be excellent. Covereage looked good all the way to Todd lake. Have a picture I will upload later.
Nice trip and write up Lowell. Especially like the shot of your tracks.
Congrats and well done! Pretty impressive first time visit to the Pass!

it has left with with a bit of a mental conundrum though that harkens back to freeskier's tr thread, i don't encourage people to do this descent...its very dangerous!
I'm the "buddy from Seattle" who skied this with Scott and you bring up an excellent point, this descent is very dangerous. For anyone considering this route, it...
Summitting at 9:15 was a wise choice, I've been finding crap snow as early as 10 am the last few weeks in WA. Gotta get it early, congrats
yeeew! thats a steep one for sure. seems like the summer solstice is the definitely the time to do it,
i did my descent down the spur 3 years and 1 day ago.

Just watched it again and was thinking we need a little more of you Jason representing the tele holdouts. 8)
Jason... Thanks for posting. You have a gift.
I'd be very interested in a map as well if you don't mind sending one my way. Love maps.

I've never seen so much brush-hucking.
Lowell. I know exactly what you mean. That place is a sacred place. I feel the call.

Has this become a tradition of yours? It seems you visit Eldorado around the solstice each year.
It's the best kind of tradition, I think. Not something I do because the calendar says so, but because the place just keeps drawing me back. There's something about being among the glaciers up there, even for a day.
