little late, but I just put up this Video from Daniel last week. Mike - your reports of smooth snow were spot on! super quality corn off the east summit, but I had a few more carry overs than you :( snow melts fast this time of year.
Quite a difference in snow coverage from 8/3/2012 (compare with the 3rd picture above).
Thanks for the report  :)
You just saved me 10 miles of skis on my back.
Skied 3grand of smooth corn on the cow yesterday!
It's going quick but should be good for early August turns.
sad how the goat cirque coverage has receded in recent years.  I can remember going up there in the late 90's and still being able to ski continuous lines into the cirque in September-  maybe the year I visited was a particularly fat snowpack year but that area used to have some fun, steep, late-season yo-yo terrain.
Wonderful! that sounded like a great trip, thanks for the post, and pictures!
love that last dry shot.   makes me think of what's coming next..
Yes, miserable weather, but still one of my favorite tours ever!
As Ron remarked either that day or another time, the higher you get on the mountain, the friendlier the people get.
Of course, the two of you were friendly right there in the parking lot, but still, somehow that summarizes one of my favorite aspects of that tour, and many others too.
Awesome post. Great to hear that Ben is your touring sidekick. Would love to join you guys on a(nother) tour in the future!
One more picture - The Vision of Loveliness - Ben skied from the far upper right, me the next step down.
Flowers have replaced snow on Mazama ridge.  Thanks Tim for carrying my K Wilds, I am limited in weight bearing for a few more weeks.

Good to see you out again, brother.
Jonathan, Wow, has it been 15 years since our bumping into each other in the Paradise parking lot?  I certainly remember that miserable day, but somehow we seemed to make the lemonade out of the lemons ;).  Looking at the photos above lots of things have certainly changed in those "few" years, skis, clothing, and us.  Time flies when your having fun.  Nice to read your report and see your still out having a good time.
Skinnable without carries from Sluiskins chair at 6000'. Very smooth and not sticky skiing after 4pm for us.

Miserable weather August 15 with you and Jeanette on Muir.
Then perfect weather with you on August 22 when your binding broke.

AHA. So I was RIGHT!
My stroke feebled brain did fail me  ::)
I forgot we did two weekends in a row!!
Must have been because I promised you good weather if you would hang around another week eh? :)

(I started keeping track of my ski days back in 1976 when our elementary school class was studying graphing...)

BTW Ron, this summer marks the 15th anniversary of when I tagged along with you and Jeanette on the Muir Snowfield -- the weather was horrible, the suncups were horrible, but after that tour, I was hooked, so I have you to thank!

Thanks for remembering, Jonathan. You're welcome.

Didn't I break a binding on that trip?
But if my geria...
Cool picture guys. kw’eq sámit!
Hi all, any update on conditions on the paradise? Crevasses, sun cups, how much carrying etc.?

Oh, and the turns of course

Thanks

Top of the mountain got frosted with fresh this past wed.

Hood on Thursday morning had overnight freshies from the base of the Palmer on up.
(Although above the mid-station the fresh snow had been blown around a lot, especially given the smoothly groomed surface.)
So Adams should also have benefited from that.
(Or are you talking about Wednesday o...
Thanks for making the trip out, Jonathan,
Had we known in advance that you were coming we would have dialed in a little better weather for your visit :)

534,800'.  That's a pretty impressive season.
I would suggest that those turns could only have been made by John Dougherty from Edmonds. Not sure he climbs though...
Nice one!

Such a magic area.
Mike… wish I could have made it.  Always looking for a noble excuse to ski eh?
snow guard looks like he grew up at alpental!
Nice TR, Cigdem.  It's good to know there is still some snow in Oregon.  The CA volcanoes were past it weeks ago.
Much Less snow!

Ok it's not really that bad, but I don't suspect the lil patch of snow above the lake in the bowl will be in next weekend. It was pretty iffy yesterday (Sunday) when I was out there.

Also be wary of the snow guard

I enjoyed the video.  Keep 'em coming!
Good one.

Always good to know the updated conditions of Mt Baker.

Much less snow now but cheap turns are still available here.

Upper Russell and bottom of crazy lenticular:

I skied the Flett too on Saturday, but ascended the ridge to the east. I was shoulder carrying my skis away from the wind at one point and they endo-ed right over the top! I also lost a skin bag to the wind if anyone finds it (red G3).  Those lenticulars were the gnarliest I've seen and when I dropped the Flett at ~2:30 they were capping the whole mountain in stacks down to 10k.  Between that, the howling wind up high, and the occasional white-out it was a clear GTFO signal.
An update on the upper Russell Glacier from our trip today... can't say much about the approach to it as we were in pea soup until about 7K and couldn't get a good sense of the coverage below the Flett. We managed to find enough snow above 6200 to keep skis on with the exception of some short carries until getting up to Echo and Observation Rocks.

We got up to the basin below the Russell Glacier Headwall at 9400 feet. Great turns off the slopes coming down from that point wi...
Looks nice, Peter.  You had a quite a show of cloud formations.  That flowing lenticular looks awesome.
Mike,
nice to meet you and Moxie.  You were right skiing on Friday was great; corn with small suncups (size A-B).  The wind higher up, however, was ferocious forcing me to retreat.  The weather definitely turned making for an unsettled and drizzly night and quite hard morning snow.  Not wanting to slip on the hard snow, I lit out of there on Saturday first under sunny and later cloudy skies.  Met two other skiers; hopefully the weather on Sunday calmed down for them.  This place is a gem b...
wow that second photo!  Looks like a wild horse to me.
That explains why they stitched together so well!
Awesome lenticular shots!
I was the skier you met at the bottom of the run where the Park gets nearly flat (hi).

From that marvelous moment of clearing on, it was never clear again for the next 4 hours, and got steadily cloudier with several cloud decks involved. Suck! I did make it onto the Russell, about 3PM. And at that moment the viz there was pretty good, because the fog sort of stopped at the Russell divide, albeit it was still under a 9K-level cloud deck that flattened the light. Could at least see glac...
