Awesome photos! The second is a keeper! Wish we could have caught up with you!
Nice one! Alas, "Oh Danny Boy! the pipes are calling me home!" I need need need to go there.
Nice post. Good to see some CO posts. Did my first summit/ski about a week earlier July 5. Yes, melting out quick. I skied the snowfields skier right of Lewis. I got about 3,500 skiing in. Wow! the view looking north from the summit is something on a clear day.
We were camped at Robin Lakes over the weekend and took a picture of you guys on Saturday morning (well, sort of). Anyway, here's a look at Mt. Daniel from the east. Plodding along of foot I was envious that you had those snowfields all to yourselves.
wow, fabulous photos!
It was this same weekend last year that Coron and I made it over to Hinman. Pea Soup Lake was melted further last year than this at the same time. Here is the route we used to get to Hinman. It was a fine alternate route. ...

...(Mike connected this to the lake drainage last year?). Hinman itself looked great, I guess maybe next year...

The sunset photo is a winner, as are the moonset/sunrise photos from your second day in your album.
Must've been a pleasant trip!

Was up there yesterday. 4th crossing start still has plenty of snow to ski within 20 steps of road. Awesome day with no one else on route all day- solitude. Sticky up high and then minimal suncups/old ski tracks. The softness still made it smooth. Crevasses were few and easily negotiated. Go get it and have fun.

That solo skier was me going back to my camp below East Peak. Too bad we didn't meet, but did cross ski tracks! Yes, skiing was good and the Moon was big. And nice Sunset/Sunrise, too. I'll post some pix later.
Nice turns, Kenji. They caught the sun just right for us. The couple you met on the summit told us about the really fast tele skier that we...

Per iluka's TR (http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=32038.0),
I knew Daniels was the place to be!
This was such a great trip that it's hard to pinpoint a highlight, but two come to mind, first was Ben's blank stare to (after the approach was complete)... "so which bivy did you bring?"...<...
Wow - nice video Carl. Extremely jealous...have just been working and cleaning moss and loose rock on decomposing sandstone routes.
Solid line with a big consequence entrance. Way to get after it!
There are a number of thin sections below Mazama ridge that will be gone in a day or so, if not already. Still, the glacier will be reachable and rideable with only short carries for a while yet.
Get some!
Get some!
We spent Friday-Sunday on the Russell and Flett. I thought about posting a few pictures, but they would be a complete let down after watching that video. Nice Work!!!! On second thought, expectations be damned. Here's a couple with a different perspective just because:

Great report, and timely, too, since I'm thinking of heading that way soon. However, I'm confused about something: you said "last call", yet you can still ski to within 20' of the (presumably 4th x'ing) TH. I'm not sure how to interpret that. Admittedly it can become a PITA to trudge over the talus and moraines around the bottom of the Paradise in late summer, but it should be skiable all year, right? We skied it on the last day of Augus...

Yeah, ski from the car with tourists at Muir, or hike 3K to ski with goats at Sahale.
Couple more goat pics, and a grouse?
Yep,
That's a male Blue Grouse.
Probably not in the immediate future - full days away from the house are few and far between with the new baby.

Good looking trip, Peter!
Thanks John, any chance you will be getting out again soon?

Sounds like you were able to ski down to 6500ish? Just 3000'ft of hiking to get to snow? Not too badLOL

Way to move and get after it. Do you think there is any chance SW of Middle will still be skiable in 1-2 weeks when I am back home?
There is some okay beach bouldering here in Puerto Vallarta but it's probably not worth bringing the skis..... :'(
Things are melting super fast there. I was lucky to get what I got. It was quite hot...

Well done! Nice pics too. It's hard to do telemark turns with dynafits isn't it :)
Yah. At first I thought "These bindings are Junk!" And then I realized the heels are not supposed to move ;D

Your *gasp* heels....
What's the story with those heels?!
Aha. You noticed.
Don't worry. Tele will not be rooted out of my soul so easily. These guys are meant for long summer walks when the skiing isn't expected to be much. More of an alpine tool really.
So, when I expect the skiing to be good I'll free the h...
awesome vid, thanks for sharing your fun tymes
Sick flick! Tim go back and skim after that digger?! I would have went straight to camp and medicated.

Oh it was real bubbly.
Only manly drinks in Montana.
Only manly drinks in Montana.
I think it's hiking time, but if Mike would carry my skis and boots I'd ski! :)
Suncups were minor, a non-issue really. only two legitimate melted out campsites adjacent to camp lake. Things are changing rapidly though...
Cool video, gotta love the buddy system when the surfs up!
Awesome video. Looks like an amazing trip, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the TR, what time did you head down the NFNWR?

Where were snow levels on June 1?
Bugs were tolerable at the trailhead and the worst between Soap and Whychus creeks-still not too bad though. Bugs were no problem at all around Camp lake as there is very little bare ground, the lake was about 3/4 melted out.
We were able to ski down to the Chambers Lakes with a couple of very short carries on flatter ground.

Great Pictures!
We needed you dgallanger. No one was along to double-dog dare us to pond skim.
Note to others: Big Tuna is not a good option to gain the N ridge, unless you want to climb steep choss...
Andres and I were up there last weekend, and we fell victim to the TAY effect. Having seen the nice runs folks had taken on the Big Tuna/Genie snowfield, we decided it looked like a "shortcut" onto the N ridge. Not a bad choice until we reached the top of the snowfield and found the only way onto the ridge was a rock climb. Less chossy than most of the rock around but low 5th class, at least in ski boots with skis on packs. For whatever reason we had brought a rope, and I was able to s...
