You're amazing Zap! Kudos to you and Jill. Thanks for all the reports, and I hope you can do it again next year!
Yes that was an excellent rope line John, nice job! Sorry about the poaching, I'll definitely go around next time :)
Thanks Joe, that is "Give back my Heart" off Pontiac
I'm questionable for Saturday , but probable for Sunday 8)

Indeed, about August. We may want to call our tours that month the "Bataan Festival Of Skiing"!
Looking forward to running into you again in the near future.

Nice run, Zap and Jill.
It will be good to have you back. We'll keep an eye out for the camper now.

Hi Greg,
It's true that "inefficiency" is essentially synonymous with "getting a good workout," (Why else walk uphill when you could take a ski lift? Why exercise at all when you could be lazing around watching reality TV instead?), but in this case I was trying to gently suggest that Tim probably met you at the southeast, not southwest, corner of Table Mountain. I see evidence of a recent edit on his post.

Thanks for the vicarious trip, will look forward to making some turns with you again next year 8). Stay tuned for the "Slush Cup" you might still be in town.
That was fun indeed, despite the less than optimal summer conditions 8) Our primary goal was achieved, thanks to a great bunch of.....Slush Hunters 8) That's right a new groovy movie!
Zap and Jill you've set the bar !
Nice touring with you all last Sunday.
It was an interesting day with highly variable weather and snow conditions. It seemed wierd to me to be able to drive right up to the trailhead. I think I kind of prefer the Winter method where you pay your dues by climbing that boulder field at Narada Falls to reach the road. Keeps out the riff-raff, you know ;)

Zap & Jill, thanks for a season of great trip reports, you've been the envy of the entire NW ski community this year!
Hope your summer season is just as good, I'll look for your camper come fall!

It was really nice having Stefan back in action again after a brief absence, and he's right, somehow we did seem to make this more of a "Geezer's" pace, but we still had way to much fun ;D
Don't kid yourself for one minute, Stefan was back skiing, like a duck taking to water. We all had our own set of challenges in dealing with the flat light and...

Sorry to hear about the car. I hear the Sunrise road is supposed to open this weekend, but it doesn't sound like there will be much of a Sunrise chute-fest this year. Does anyone else have any reports of conditions up there?
Thanks for the TR. I got a lot of good photos. One of these days I need to go digital because messing with slides is a lot of work. Here a pic of Josh and Phil climbing near the bottom of the couloir http://cascadecrusades.org/picoftheweek/picoftheweeknov20.htm I should have thrown a ski pic in there...call me lazy...
I've had the tabs stolen off my license plate at the 65th P&R. guess the thieves realized that the registration tab was the most valuable thing on my p.o.s. subaru
sorry to hear about the car theft...hope that it shows up soon.

My Brother-in-Law was trying to climb from Steamboat Prow and turned around in 12" of new powder (sans skis). He said there was 8" at the base of the Inter Glacier.
Steve:
We were the two that were skiing down as you were approaching the Crest......If I was looking at the same mountain goats, they were huge! Looked like a heard of white cattle...anyways, great day. June 4th and one of the best ski days of the year!

I quite enjoyed the entertaining, random, & somewhat lazy day 8) Old Snowy can wait, again :)

It looks like you guys had a great trip and were lucky to get above the clouds! A couple of questions...
Does anyone know a link to a web site, such as an aviation site, that tells what level the cloud deck is at for various areas? It seems that it would be helpful for those of us trying to get above the clouds. Also, did any of you get a good look at the conditions on the Fuhrer Finger route as far as a climb and ski descent is concerned?

Sometimes the best part of backcountry skiing is the social aspects of the process, especially when plans go wrong and creativity needs to be at it's peak. That's when the folks you cavort with can be the most fun.
Good call, matey's, says I ;).

ah yes, what a day. if anything, it was fun to putz around and drink coffee (even if it was bad...) and get a few turns too. thanks for the enjoyable and random day guys! it definitely was entertaining (especially that squirrel, what a champ!) :D
Yikes about the car. I leave mine there all the time, and I figured it's a pretty safe place, because there seems to be strong police presence there. (In fact, there was a cop driving around there at 4:30am on Saturday).
Maybe the all the police is a sign that it's not a good spot...

thanks for the report. i'm glad you got out for some turns, despite the weather. and sorry to hear about your car. i hope it gets recovered. Ned_Flanders got his car broken into at the 65th P&R when we left it there last year. missing were his CD player and CD collection. now i avoid leaving a vehicle there.

Markharf: Sounds like our inefficiency was exactly what you probably needed this weekend! We'll let you know of the next death slog!!!
North Side traverse? Last I saw you two, you were on the SW corner of Table.
If they were really on the SW corner of Table Mtn, they chose an extremely inefficient route!

North Side traverse? Last I saw you two, you were on the SE corner of Table (changed from SW corner). It looked like you were headed up the summer trail to the plateau above. It sounds like you dropped down, around the corner, across the nose, and took the high traverse all the way across Little Alaska to Inter Glacier!! Yeah, that is not done much!
Actually, I did this traverse once and swore to never go near it again. It is a steep, slippery way to cut across all the good lines from...

Nice angulations in that photo, Greg. Is that you or your lady friend?
That's me, Jeff. The amazing thing is you could get going fast enough on Saturday to do that, not usually the case on the Muir Snowfield!
Great Pictures of your trip Charles and Vince. Thanks for posting them.
Ahh, that was my rope line you passed along. Notice how nice and taut it was? ;D
You skied past me up that line, and I thought about asking you to move over to the chair, but Palmer was good and quiet. Sounds like another patroller did ask. Just doing the job.
Thanks for the report. I would much rather have been climbing than working on Saturday.

Yeah it was a plesant surpirse. I was expecting to get rained on. I should know better that the secret is climbing above the clouds.
I couldn't belive that it was so silky smooth and consistant all the way from Muir to Pebble Creek. What a day!!
Nick was another rookie out that day. He'd only tried teleskiing on his own once before, and after a few tips he was skiing pretty damn good. I think we have another one addicted.

Nice ski and report, Jeff. I like the picture looking back down toward the Eliot Glacier. We'll be more motivated next time.
Great day with sweet, effortless riding/skiing in (mostly) untouched snow. Definitely glad we didn't let the forecast scare us off! ;D ;D ;D First time on skis in that area and can't wait to go back with some more 'normal' snow depth next year. Lots to do.
Nice angulations in that photo, Greg. Is that you or your lady friend?
How much of Adams & St Helens could you see above the cloud deck?
From the summit around 12:30-1, Adams was in full view, completley unobscured. I don't remember looking towards St Helens, but it probably was the same. In the afternoon there were very few clouds around.
Robie: Yeah, she's stoked. I did mention that sometimes the snow isn't quite this good, and sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate like it did yesterday, but I'm sure she'll be back for more! She's a former junior national level alpine racer and a current competitive rower, so she's got most of the tools already.
some of the best and smoothest corn this year. Perhaps 3000' of supremely good skiing.
I'll second that. Went to Muir with a friend who had never toured before (but she's an excellent skier and athlete), found bluebird skies above Pebble Creek, made it to Muir in about 3:25 including instruction in applying skins and snap kick turns. Snow was smooth, soft, and really fast all the way down. Tons of climbers, but not many skiers.
That looks like some straight up snowless Rockies hardcore action. What would possess you to forego that sweet-arse north slope!
Amar, In reference to the internet connectivity.
In our laptop, I have a Sierra Wireless card being used with a data only account with T-Mobile. I can see the Northwest Express chair on Bachelor from Sparks Lake and I assume there is a cell tower on Bachelor. In fact, it is a great signal. The connection is at dial-up speed. I originally established the account because Jill is a Systems Analyst on contract and can work while we are traveling. It is amazing the places we...

We were thinking of heading to Hood (north side), but changed plans to Adams (west/NW side) after reading your updated Cloud Cap road info. But we ended up not even leaving town early AM on Saturday, after webcams showed whiteout at Paradise & Johnston Ridge (unfortunately, no webcam photos for Hood early that day: Meadows cam had a day-old photo,...

Jeff, Nice trip report and photos. Jill and I were planning to tour out of Timberline and then head over to Cloud Cap. I saw your update on the Cloud Cap road - thanks. The weather forecast for the next couple of days has changed our Mt. Hood plans. It's snowing here in the Three Sisters area. I have excellent wireless internet connectivity near Sparks Lake so I'm drinking coffee and surfing the net. :) Zap
Great adventure. I have toured on both ends of your trip and the terrain is fantastic. Until my sherpa grandsons increase in size, I probably won't tour the middle section.:)
I agree, the Mobil deli is a "must stop" whenever in the Lee Vining area. Jill has become addicted to the fish tacos.
