Thanks for the report Jeff,
What a thunderstorm!!!!!!! I have never seen like that.
I came very fast without any warning.
Views of Little Tahoma on the way showed the  crucial connecting ramp through the bottom cliffband on the NE face had not yet  melted out.

Hmm... better bring the snowboard next time, then you can just huck it! :D  Wish I'd been well enough to get out this weekend. >:(

So I take it from the snow you found, that something like the Fuhrer Finger wouldn't have been such a good idea?
Sweet trip. Sounds like everything fell into place. You got some nice turns, ate good food sardines rock, and had some great tunes for the ride home. One of my fav's Mother Love Bone. And always the most important making the wife happy. I can never seem to make it home on time. I'm always an hour or two late.

Very interesting ,too bad the damn snow has not consolidated.Did you put your uptrack in the same place as your blue downtrack ?
The final 200 vertical was the most memorable mountain ascent I have ever experienced.

Wow. Nice story Zap, I was gripped just reading it!
Yes, it was truly an amazing trip.  This being my first time on Baker, I'm not sure I can top it! Silas failed to mention that the ski from the summit couldn't have been more perfect.  Open crevasses were minimal and the snow perfect-varied from perfect, smooth corn, to just a wee bit deeper corn at the lower elevations. Picture-perfect indeed! :)

While I want to hit them in the future, I'm glad we made the very last minute decision to ditch the Sisters option, as well as the Hi...
Sounds like a good time, Silas. Weather-wise you made the right choice choosing Baker instead of the Sisters.
Great pictures Robie, thanks for sharing  :D. That's such a great area.
Joe,
My dementia is going to be selective! Leaving out crappy weather, sloppy snow, bad falls, knee surgery and work!
more pictures of this trip taken by myself and Dorothea can be found at
Denis Bogan, our eastern seaboard contingent and one of our most loyal participants of this trip, posted this report of the trip on the Vermont Sking Discussion and Telemark Tips, and asked if I would cross post it for him here.  Denis created such a great read (it was almost like being there) that I jumped at the chance.

Great report Robie! I feel your pain and hallucinations of tracks. Not to suggest that this applies to you but, I can see myself as a deluded old man always thinking there are tracks on that hill or mountain. Hopefully I get to enjoy those moments as you did before the dementia strikes. :D
Joe
Easy it was It was Gary Peniston not Gary Vogt!
Nice Trip, Robman.
I'm glad you made it in there.
How'd you get Gary to go that far from home?
welcome, jim!  good report - thanks for the info.

Lowell,
Thanks for pulling off this event and sharing it with us. Your are correct that you must not commercialize or notify when and if you do it again. Don't ask don't tell is the only way this event will work. Keep up the good work.
Bob
Thanks for good the trail report Wolfs.
I'll try not to follow those dead end tracks  8).

i'm heading to CS on the 28th for a 5/29 1 day attempt with a handful of friends.  we are 4 boarders, 1 tele, and 3 hikers.  our target is the false summit/SW chutes and maybe the summit if we have energy to burn.
we should get to CS around 3-4pm.  look for the Honda Element Flexcar (or green 4rnr with f-ed up running boards) if you want to join us!

There's definetely more lines to ski on Goode
Bob - FS Rd 23 should still work for you as before.  As Tim points out, it is the shortest for most of us coming from the north.  Sometimes after the climb, when I'm not feeling up to a windy mountain dirt road and want some services on the way home, I drop down to Hood River and take I-84 to Portland, the 205 cutoff to I-5 & back that way.

The FS Adams Climbing Report page should...
Was there snow at lake level?

A picture with this WTA TR--
There is still quite a bit of snow at lake level, but a lot of dry patches as well. We ran into a couple who were camping, and they were walking around the lake fishing in flip-flops. Try tomorrow, I'll have those photos on a different site (maybe later tonight.)
It looks like there might even be another fun line on the right side of the scurlock picture.
I am planning on travelling down to Adams next week. I couldn't find your route on my map, Tim. 14 goes along the Columbia River valley and I couldn't find 215 at all.
I live across the border, so I will pick up the freeway at Bellingham. I thought that I would get off at exit 127 and then drop down on 7 to Morton, take 12 to Randle, where I would get on FR23. I believe that was the way that I came 5 or 6 years ago to climb the mountain. Does anybody out there know any reasons...
Was there snow at lake level?  I was thinking of doing some camping this weekend, and was curious how it looked at the lake.  Also, any chance we can get through to those pictures?  Thanks!
A lull in my current engineering job enabled me to finally add this story to my website. Enjoy:

The Silver Skis: America's Wildest Ski Race
I'm so glad someone was out there for the snow.....let alone up on Goode!!! Nice trip.....
we got on the glacier straight on.  There was a depression in the glacier directly above our bivy.  Once on the glacier we turned left and went below the NE Butt, and then up and onto the face.
The NE Buttress looked good, but yeah there's a fair amount of snow still on it, although it looked like it was mostly fresh from the latest storms, so it might be mostly snow free after all this sun.
Nice job! Very cool line, and who can complain about powder at the end may? sweet.

Did you guys access the glacier strait on from roughly below the NE buttress, or did you go way off climber's left to end-run the icefall at the terminus of the glacier? Also, how did the NE Buttress look? Lots of snow still on it?
Yeah that's the line....2,000+ ft of Goode's Goodness...
Is that your line nestled in on the left here? (link from John Scurlock's page)

Nicely done, Sky. I believe you about the powder.
Right on Sky! Now if the weather will give me a chance, I can go get some good lovin' for my vacation next week. Since you are going to be down south, don't you be putting any voodoo on to counteract my firedancing.  8)
Great TR and conditions update! I actually mt biked up the Esmeralda Basin trail on 5-16; fun trail that does allow bikes. I didn't have enough time to do what you guys did. Wasn't much snow near the parking area. Longs pass looked pretty melted out, but I think the runs in head lamp basin (between Ingalls pass and Ingalls Lake) are in pretty good shape. I'll be up there soon. Either an early start to yo yo some lines in the basin, or we'll overnight it and see how many runs we can rack up. Glad...
MSN Groups seems to work ok for me as far as picture sites go...
No password or sign-up to get in to view, hotlinking allowed and you can set up albums so that your partner(s) can join to add additional pics from a trip.  Seems like a few pics are free and then there's a nominal charge.
me too, and I've had a Snapfish account for some time. "There's been a system error . . . "
I keep getting errors from snapfish trying to view your photos -- and I even signed up for a snapfish account...
A climb well executed and wisely abandoned like a truly seasoned climber that is not so bold as to prematurely end his climbing days  ;)
Nice report, Tim, lots of good judgement, info and stats.
I see the slide pics but.......

Joe, on the photo site, just across from the title "Unicorn Gl, on the right, you will see "View" check to see that your bullet is in the Grid view and not the List view.  When the List View is checked, I could not get the photos to enlarge and open either, once I re-checked the "Grid View" the photos came up.  I dunno, computers seem to be a never ending source of pleasure and frust...
How about "Chillie Willie"

Aaron
Surprisingly good skiing conditions!  I really wasn't expecting powder, at best, I was hoping for some slushy corn.  It looks like winter has finally arrived in the Cascades.  It was fun meeting up with a bunch of familiar posters from TAYR.  Hope to run into y'all out there again!
Seems like a new screen name Arron might be handy about now...
How about "Frozen Johnson"?

I'm with Ron- and the run they took could be called Frozen Johnson Chute!

My thought was he could have used an extra glove to pack down there. That would even impress the largest of snow snakes. Not mention the head turners in the parking lot.
Hey JibberD,
I'm up for Monday and looking for a partner.
We met once on top of Mazama Ridge.
Chris AKA Scotsman.

I felt like I was driving a large semi rig with no power steering and the trailer behind be was totally out of control

Maybe your heavy pack needs a gross vehicle weight on the side?  :D
Great pics Mad Dog! I see the slide pics but, I could not get the pics to show when I clicked on them. Could be my tempermental computer.  >:(
I like the 2% shot! That sums up the ski down the upper glacier.
Thanks again for the grea...

How about "Frozen Johnson"?
Cool boots! He would have to learn to tele then (a good thing in my mind) and he'd be well on his way to being a gearhead with his alpine, his xc, and his tele set-up (not such a good thing while I'm footing the bill).
Nice report Lara.  I was hoping someone would post a Muir report this week.  I'm planning on heading up there on Sunday or Monday and wanted to know how much boot packing might be required.

Open invitation to all TAYers...Muir Sun. or Mon. anyone?

No shell?  Martin-the-Mentor will be disappointed ;)

We skinned to 9100ft, directly above the lift. The wind was relentless. Aaron, who was wearing Mammut softshell pants, experienced severe discomfort due to his "little him" being frozen from the wind. He appeared to be in quite intense pain. Jason was kind of enough to give him some chemical handwarmers which Aaron reported to install on the affected area and it resolved the issue. Consider this a public service announcement.

Nice job... I can relate to the "wall of weather" coming in.  I was up there on 4/28, racing to the col before the clouds moved in from the north - I was going to try for the higher notch too, but the weather scared me.  I made it about 1000ft down before it rained, and then it started thundering once I got down into the basin.

Looks nice with fresh snow on the peaks... actually, the upper mountain looks almost more filled in now as it did a month ago, but probably jus...
Telecross? So . . . you'll be wanting SPD cleats in those T1's, right?
Conditions did not merit frequently pulling out the camera,..........

Even though the light was terrible, I did manage to get a few shots HERE, and also added with a little reminder, at the end, of how nice it can be later in the year.

Sorry- Jeanette no pics of you ???  What was I thinking?

No problem Joe, it wasn't...
