nice!  glad you guys had fun.  so, how were the hot dogs?
highly pressurized Guinness!

brilliant!
I was in the Mountaineers group that climbed the Lynch and reached the west summit about the time you guys did.  Watching you ski down, at least a couple of us were so envious of you and wished we had our skis.  Nice turns in the chutes down to the basin!  I hope we didn't post hole your runs up too much.  We were quite a large herd, I know.

Sounds like a great Father's Day Silas!
Thanks for the info. I'm heading up tommorow so I'm glad to hear the conditions are good.
I couldn't resist, and dragged the skis along for a climb of Ingall's Peak on Saturday. I figured Daniel must've been nice. Way to go, guys. Left boots and all.
Nice report, Lori...
Unfortunately, the snow, though great skiing, was a little slidey, and tended to erase our tracks (otherwise you would see my circular tracks caused by two left boots):

A Hummel geschmozzle near Peggy's pond (I think the 3 Hummels are in the middle of the pic).
It was a fantastic day, with good to excellent snow conditions and beautiful weather

Ditto that! Excellent report, Amar!

Nice pix Amar, and I agree with Michael, that road was a beast; we all said a few times that it was the crux of Diller.
JW, great preview viddy -- fun tune, too.
And yeah, I also agree with Phil, Kam's road to Sunrise is a cool pic... the title reminds me of this shot.
You guys just keep adding...
Another great and very useful report, Amar.
Keep up the great work.  That book's going to be a great tool.
Nice trip guys, and thanks for the report.  As a regular visitor to the Mazama area, I've eyed Robinson for several years to ski, but can't say I'd ever considered the route you did.  Looks sweet, and steep.  Kam, I'll be sure to bring an extra blue bag for our next trip :)  btw, love the joy-o-meter.
Amar - great photo of the three of us, I'll treasure it.  It's funny you mention the north face of Shastina. We did Diller as a substitute for the north face.  Reason being the access issue - we had just skied the Bolam Glacier and were taking a "rest" day on Diller!  The access to the north face sure is a conundrum for an otherwise spectacular ski.

We skied off the summit at 1 after having lazed around the top chatting up some folks skiing down the Cascade Canyon...
Amar - Stopping in the middle of a descent doesn't usually occur to me, especially to chat up people huffing up a mtn.  I thought we (or at least one of us) would have been close enough to call out a question.  But anyway, I know myself that I couldn't stop smiling and skiing!

Snow was powdery (if you can believe it) in the chute and velvet below.  I might have waited a little longer for the middle to soften, but alas, you where there - it was such a beautiful day.
Thanks for the photos Kam. Very nice shots!
Now I know my limits climbing with you boys the skiing well...8)

JW-Can't wait to see the vid. Us dial up guys have to wait for the visit to the high speed library.

Kam and Skipper-Great pics! I like the form on RonJ and the point Em attitude of GregL. The clarity of the Rainier shot is superb!
Joe
Wow - I cannot believe I came so close to stardom!

Jeff - Our party of three (my two brothers, one by blood the other by default) were the three snowboarders you saw in Diller Canyon on Saturday.  We were wondering what fanatics drove up to 7,000' on that 4X4 road - now it all makes sense - the purveyor of Cascade Volcano info himself - Amar and friend Jeff.

Looking forward to Amar's report (if he does post).  We were very glad to have climbed that f...
Phil: thank's man, BTW you're Mt. Maude epic was great! Good call on the car add.
Hey, I liked that video  :)

And this pic could be in a car ad:
road to Sunrise.
Jerry, excellent video!  and nice photos Greg, Ron and Skip!
here are some more..

Barry,

If you look at the route photo from below on the CascadeClimbers.com thread, the ~200cm wide (narrow) spot is the constriction at the top of the dogleg section.

In Kam's photo you can't see it because it's around the corner, just out of sight.

Nice one, boys.
Looking at the couloir in that Roper photo makes me wonder just where the "narrow" part is.  It's harder to figure where the part is that's WIDER than 188 cm, like in Kam's photo (presumably near the bottom).
You guys certainly nailed another one.
Way to research, plan and implement.
Sweeeet.
Another epic!!

You guys are breaking my heart!  Last winter I rummaged through memories and photos of routes that I did (or tried) during my ice climbing days and which might be worth visiting when I learn to ski better -- and have mastered hop turns on 55 degree icy runnels!

Of the top five on my list you guys have bagged three this year -- Goode, Jack and now Robinson. I didn't think anybody else even knew about Robinson.

The other two are ...

... uh, I for...
Kam, Phil and I skied Robinson Mountain in the Pasayten Wilderness yesterday.  Phil and I were inspired by this thread on CascadeClimbers.com.

I knew when I saw Phil's name show up on cc.com, a ski outing was in the brewing. Way to get out there and hit it! Keep it going, you guys throw down some inspirational lines.
Good stuff, guys! :D  It doesn't look like the Fatboy approach would have saved you all that much.  Besides, in a season with already fewer options, you might as well choose something that stretches the legs a bit more.  Otherwise, come next winter, we'll all be Fatboys! ;D

As usual, great report on what sounds like a great trip. Thanks.
No, didn't get up to Snowdome that day.  Another one of those late starts.  From the locked gate it looked like you could ride Langille to the Timberline Trail, but I don't recall what it looked like between Snowdome and the trail.  Both slopes looked pretty good with fresh snow.
Thanks for the report.

p.s.  The second gate to Cloud Cap was locked the morning of June 14.  Go figure :D

So did you go get Snowdome anyways? If so, did you find out if it was skiable to the Timberline trail?
here is a short trailer to tide you over 8)

Nice trailer Jer :D !  Looks like the Sourdough Chutes produced some goodies.

(we missed you, MadDog, especially at the barbie that you graciously loaned us ;) looks like the camping trip was fruitful, tho... we could use one of those fish on the barbie ):D

Thanks, it's always nice to be missed, and yep, those fishes they were so delicious on our...
Kam- That chute looks right up your alley. You gotta have a pair of skis that will adhere to ice? Nice hike very impressive!
Joe
We ran into "Nooner Patrolers" Joe, Carol and Mark just as we started down the trail and Kam, Allyson and Chris in the parking lot.

So, how late did the rest of y'all ski before calling it a day?

Ron-Carol, Mark and Da'baker went and skied A Chute to the basin and booted up PL Chute. Where I spotted Greg (good to see you again) good to hear you skied that chute! We headed to Antler where the sun took the edge off of the ice and...
...Now hopefully Kam will chime in with some photos :-)

ding, ding...  here's a shot of Sky (left) and Phil (right) front-pointing up the couloir.

yeah, i would have soiled myself had i gone above the apron.  and i didn't bring a blue bag.  besides, i didn't want to exceed the 10% mark on my joy-o-meter:

Very good time!  Dan and I are working on a full account of the action. Until then, here is a short trailer to tide you over 8)
      Preview .... Sourdough Rock Festival
Sky, I would have to concur with your payoff vs. effort assessment.  My feet might not agree, but luckily they have no say in the matter.
Now hopefully Kam will chime in with some photos :-)
Yeah snoslut,
I'd love to see that move.  I really wanted to join you at Shasta, but my wife had the weekend off and we ended up at Tioga Pass.  Some day I'll meet up with you at Adams or Rainer.
That's funny, because I had written phil about doing this. Little did I know that you and phil were already there.  8)
After we did three of the chutes it was either the Freemont glacier or Burroughs. Since we could see two long runs in the distance, Burroughs was it. Made all the way to 7800' point just below main Third Burroughs summit. Low viz but best snow of day there as crust held. Standard SE run off Second nice. The steep east wall coming off First got the adrenalin pumping. A natural kicker/cornice exists for the young and invulnerable. If heading up this weekend, the trudge to Third may be still worth...
Just now getting around to getting up some pics from this last weekend's ROCKFest...
What with me trying to get used to a new camera, the pictures are not much to write home about but, nonetheless, seem sufficient to give those that couldn't attend a bit more visual info on the conditions.

After leaving early on Saturday (we missed you, MadDog, especially at the barbie that you graciously loaned us ;) looks like the camping trip was furitful, tho... we could us one of those fish on the...
Even windier on Sunday.  Hmmm...kite board up north side and launch off summit booter.  Hey switch backside 1080 half cab. ;D
2:45 is flying. You deserve a cheeseburger and a beer!  I've done it in 3 hrs but I feel like crap, so I intentionally slow it up to 3:30 about.  I hit Muir Sunday 6-12 & agree the upper snow was grrrrreat! You picked a good day as I had a cloud layer at about 8500'; white out below that point. I wanted to do the main Nisqually chute, but I was solo & figured I better follow the wans on down the 'muir highway'.  Morning of 6-12 there was a couple inches of new at the parki...
Nice job snoslut. We were on the top of Shastina on 6/11 and can relate to the high-winds. You picked a good time for your trip, the next day, Sunday, was even windier.
2:45 is fast...  Thanks for the descriptive info. on the boot-packing requirements.

Scotsman, I may be heading to Muir this Sunday morning weather and time permitting.

I'll be away from the email until Saturday night.  Send me a PM or email if you think there's a possiblilty of meeting up at Paradise.  Hoping to leave the Paradise lot by 8:30am, monitoring radio channel 1-23.
Muir in 2Hrs 45 mins!, you where fassssssst! My best time is 3hrs 45 mins but I 'm an old fart. Thanks for the report. I might just slog up there this weekend.
Jason, hope you guys get back up there.  Definitely check out the NE Couloir if you go. I think it is a better line than the NF.
I've got friends coming from out of town so I'm pretty much out for this weekend.
Hopefully you guys get a weather break.
That video is absolutely fantastic.  The top looks sweet, the jump-turning really athletic, and the scary part totally out of my universe.  Great music too!
