Or have Bill Eggleston do it for you if you don't want to deal with the nasty chemicals & the mess.  It was pretty reasonable, $33 in 2001 for a pair.

How did you like that sweet skintrack right up to the slot entrance? I bet you were stoked when you looked over the edge and realized the slot was untouched! Or maybe our downtracks were a giveaway? Anyway, nice work!

Excellent effort!!

I second that!

What was the time commitment of your tour?
Try regluing them.  Get an old clothes iron and a paper bag to iron off/smooth the old surface, and a cheap paint scraper to get old glue or dirt.  Then use good glue, Black Diamond for ex., and paint it on before smoothing it very thin with the scraper.  Duct tape the skins to a big piece of cardboard, be sure no glue gets on the traction surface, and expect a bit of a mess.
Nice report and pics Pete.  We did the Chair Peak circumnav today and found similar conditions.  Was thinking the slot would be good today.  pretty amazing day for early season!
Nice to see an old fart like you getting out once in awhile.  Erin wants to go snowshoeing, sometime.  Maybe the four of us can take a trip.  We can ride down and let the girls keep each other company.

Climbing doesn't look good for next week (night shift).  Turns next weekend, perhaps?
No, looks like Mike's lucky; Chugash is breaking trail.
sounds like a nice lap.

thanks for the info., appreciate up-to-date conditions report in the area.  too late for the light stuff, but looking forward to sampling the familiar dense pow!
Hey Gregg,
Glad you guys had a great Thanksgiving at the hut.  Sorry we miss seeing you, but we really enjoyed the comfort of the BW.  We thought of heading up there for Sunday night, but looked like the winds were going to be pretty fierce and cold.

Nice pic there of Mike enjoying the pow  :)

Paul
That thar's one lucky DAWG! 8)
Six of us from Bham were up there as well.  We were staying at the Asulkin.  Had a wonderful Thanksgiving at the cabin with all the fixin's--stuffing, turkey, mashed taters and gravey and pumpkin pie.  It took us five hours to put in the track to the Asulkin.  We were breaking trail up to our thighs in the trees below the Hut.  The skiing, as you noted, was sublime.  Pretty quiet up at the head of the Asulkin until the weekend.

Thanks Paul. I was wondering what conditions were like up there. What are the background peaks in your pic? Is that on the way to Cheops?

Matt
Welcome back!!  Sounds like you guys had a great Thnx trip.  Hope to see more pics sometime.
If only this snow would stay around :'(

spinfast - that sun rise pic was so pretty I put it in my screen saver :) thx! alisa

Thanks Alisa (and thank you for letting me know) It's amazing how quickly you forget about the 3:45 AM wake-up call when you see scenes like this.  The picture may actually be available as a some sort of thank you card (for the holidays) in the near future.

Probably most realized this but I mistated my initial destination instead of  Bear Pit, it should have read Bear Gap.  Anyway the essential points I wanted to make were that despite the low temps of that day the sun did affect the south slopes, and that there was some significate slide activity on Silver Basin. Glad everyone is ok.
And the making of said photo... :)
Great photo Ian!  It looks almost better than it did in person.
Nice pics, Tony and Ian.

You guys get up too early. By 10:30, moguls were starting to form . . .
Nice flight Tony. Where is that at?
I am fixing on a dawn partol tomorrow barring DOT ice rink.
Nice work on streaking Silas, let's dawnpatrol soon.
The snow gods were indeed looking down upon us this morning. Nothing like a sunrise followed by 2000 ft of NW pow.

Ian
We were up there accross from you observing the weather and such. Must have just missed each other or something. Get in touch if you feel like riding. It would have been more like an early morning keg stand with you making turns with us.

And Base? Well under all of that POWDER there is in fact a base.  ;D

Last day in Mill valley before they opened the lifts.

Very nice, many of us remember when Mill Valley was liftless, a great place to tour.  Good work catching a modern day when it was liftless, too!
Nice work Jeff,

You're famous now (at least as a photographer!)

Awesome way to spend the holidays! ;D
Brent-

Thanks again for breaking trail for us - it was quite an effort that day.  My wife Sonya and I were part of the party that chased you up and down the ridge.  I often do reflect on how good we have it here - I'm glad you hit a particularly good one while you were here.
:)

It's great that your turkey timing was so perfect, Brent.
Glad to hear you "hit the window".
Bottom picture - - Where the heck are your Goggles!?

Face Shots Sting me without them - they must be foggy...
Brent,
Great to hear that you were back in town and enjoyed the recent powder storms. It certainly has been special.
ive read a tr from march of 2003 when some people skiied off the south east side of the summit(the end of the keyhole route) but that was just after an epic storm which dumped 6'+ ,,,the south and west side probally would be possible iwith an immideate a 60m+ rap,or two off the summit block,, the real treat of longs is the north face, which is definatly on my list, but did not come into shape last year,, i did ski a large portion of the notch couloir, 55dg multiple raps, over the disconcert...
Telemack I crashed at a buddies pad on the hill.
Good job, eh.  Just wondering:  Did you camp or stay up at Crystal, or do the commute as Scotsman did 4x over Thanksgiving?
siiiick....

really cool and well thought out report.....

kept me entertained...haha
The road is supposed to be open all winter. There is a parking fee system that pays for the plowing, most of the time the road is drivable with a 2WD with chains. Last winter the road was reliably plowed during and after each snowfall; the road sees a lot of cars every weekend so it is a safe bet it will be plowed on Fridays or Saturday morning. They did plow it this past Sunday afternoon to get people out, although the plow could not get the last mile or so because of cars parked on the road (s...
We followed the plow up on friday - trail was broken to the heather hut, and we extended the track to the top of the ridge - slow going... The feeling of weightless turns off the top of the ridge was wonderful! We came down that 'toboggan run' on saturday, passing many others coming up, then explored whistler (for easier trail breaking) on sunday.

Beautiful sunrise saturday morning... then it snowed, and didn't stop until we got back to Seattle sunday evening!
Looks great.  I've only been in there last April and want to hit it again.  Is there any reliable way to find out whether the access road is open?  and was the Elfin Lakes Hut crowded at all?

The Trough had always been included in the "To Do" list when I lived in Boulder.  Especially after I heard a friend tell tale of a 3,000 vf descent.  It had only ever lasted on the list because it did not cleanly deposit one for a true summit ski.  I'd seen skiing off the Southwest summit area.  What if a ski of the South and West slopes could yield a top to bottom?  But a hearty sole it would take to complete these lines.  To complicate the matter, as many Front Range classics ex...
Good stuff Eric -- thanks.  Working on Friday sucked...
Coverage was questionable under Silver Fir on Saturday.  There were disconcerting "voids" under the snow on the steeper parts.  Thank you Kent!
Thanks Matt. Yeah it was definitely hero snow. I'm with you about hoping it keeps up!

With my MHM pass, I get a discount on Hoodoo, so I may try visiting soon.

Jeff
I personally witnesseed two slides in Silver basin on Sat 25th. The crown you saw in Silver was not set of by patrol bombs but by skiers.

I was in the first group to ski the South Back when they dropped the Throne rope. I reached the bottom and was talking to two patrollers when a skier set of a slab. He managed to ski out of it.  :DNext trip around, a snowboarder below me set of another slab and got taken for a ride. I skied down onto the bed surface which was the rain crust formed...
Wow Jeff, that looks like great fun, I wish I was there!  I've ridden that area only once, and it was a blast.  It looks like hero snow from the photos.  I especially like the first one.  I went to Hoodoo on Saturday and found a lot of fresh lines with deep deep powder.  Pretty amazing for late November.  Let's hope it keeps up ;)
From all the accounts I heard no one was seriously hurt and all were able to either ski or walk out.  Which was confirmed as we passed them.  There will be a more detailed account on my trip report from that bluebird bottomless day.
I heard of a burial slide in the Norse Peak/Bullion Basin area on Saturday (happy ending!)....Check in w/ Crystal Patrol prior to going out folks regarding recent activity they area a good resource...Be safe out there.

Chris
Yeah...I was up on parachute the other day(see snoqualmie central closed)...was a good run...just I had to follow my up track to keep sped through holiday...ahha....good snow over all though

I was looking at silverfir too...but opted to go for parachute seeing as I didn't know what the coverage looked like on silver fir...were there al ot of streams? thats teh biggest thing I can remember about that place

well back to school work...wish I could be up there....maybe tom...
nice report, Le Cass.

deer hunting and powder skiing:  nice idea, Kelvin.
Nice.  I headed up the plain old ski trail from govie to t-line.  Nice snow, but ya higher up I am sure is wind blasted.
