Note: BobDylan, Tom Petty, George Harrison, ....... ..........., and Jeff Lynn from old 10CC.  I think?

....... ..............., = Roy Orbison  :)

Them dudes cranked out some rockin' tunes.  Too bad the lost Roy Orbison when they did or they'd of likely cranked out a bunch more.

We also skied last night, but none in our party of 3 ran into the pollen slow-down problem.  I wonder if our lack of waxing for most of the season helped out??  I thought the skiing was fine.
.

I would not be surprised if you don't have something there.  I felt like the end of our last trip skiing wise was better than the beginning (skis were fresh...
Nice Job, y'all.
And Very sweet viddy, Dan/Jer.  You guys may be ready for the big time; Miller better look over his shoulder  ;)

At first I was calling BS on Merk... but now I think he's right.  I think Tom Petty was one of the Traveling Wilburys.  He's also right that it was a perfect tune for that spot in the viddy... great mood control.
Way too cool.

The last time I was on that bridge there was a couple there with their child and dog.  The man was on our side, and the dog, wife and child were on the other.  He tried to call the dog over the bridge, but the dog tried to swim the creek.  I thought I was going to see the death of a nice animal, but somehow the dog figured out there was no way he could swim across, turned around and about 50 yards downstream made it back to the original bank from which he...

Thanks for the heads up.  We're going up tomorrow anyway.  There is already pollen on our skis from our last trip East of the mountains.  I'll bring the rubbing alchohol.  I've found a brush sometimes can help as well.
Lisa.  It is funny that Scott would assume you ascended via Heliotrope Ridge route because you never mentioned which route you took in you TR.  I was trying to figure it out and maybe could have because I think I have a picture of  the feature in your first posted picture from the other side that I took from the Squock Glacier.

Anyway the relevant info to me is the 1 hour skin up the road to Schreiber's Meadow?  Is that true?  And is there any bare patche...
Nice effort, Lisa.
I've experienced that "windchime crust" twice over the years, both times on Rainier.  It was a very special experience with creamy smooth, musical skiing both times.  Fun, eh?
I'm glad someone else got to enjoy it.
Nice one J, looks like everyone had a great time.
Wow Lee, how many heli hut trips is that this year? A month and a halfs worth? Good on you, I'm jealous!
Scotteryx- I went up the Easton, no info on the saddle if it's the one I'm thinking of on the Coleman/Deming.
Margaritas, yum yum.  I'll have to be on the lookout for geezers next time I'm up there.  Christophe and I had a nice day-trip outta Paradise on Sunday, too.
Thanks Larry!

I've really enjoyed the time I've spent with John and Irene. Such nice people. Very different personalities, it seems to me, but entirely complementary. Here are my notes from my 2001 interview with them. And here are notes from my similar interview with Gary Rose.
Lee,

Thanks for the excellent TR.  The links for day 5, 6 and 7 are not working.

It was great to see the terrain you skied plus the maps.  During my week at Kokanee a few years ago, we were delayed arrival by 2 days and 1 day for departure due to weather-warm rain.  The available terrain is enormous and the accomodations are excellent.  I'm hoping to return next season if I get lucky at the lottery.

Jill and I had a great time at Blackcomb and did not tour o...

Zap - for pictures of what an old pair of your climbing skins are doing, see the TR on cc.com:

James, I'm glad the skins are living a more adventurous life.  ;)

That was quite the adventure.  It's always enjoyable to see and read abou...
Them's the Whistler Couloirs.  They are seldom in skiable shape by the time the road opens.

Nice vid! and good call on the Tom Petty!
What mountain holds that couloir in the first picture?  What a beautiful line.
As promised, a few pics from Wednesday...

Andy and Freedom slashing the slop!

Harry and Early Winters Spire
Wipes etc. on the mountain wouldn't be worth it right now. It accumulates too fast and thick, you'd be stopping every few hundred feet to maintain glide. Yes, Wood, this has turned the skiing to crap for the second half of the run. Hopefully some of it will wash out with the rain this weekend.
So the slopes are garbage now?

>:(

Do you guys suppose that carring a rag or paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol (in a zip lock) would be worthwhile?
Good point. I figured the wax was impregnated with the crap, so I rewaxed.
Try rubbing alcohol; it doesn't strip the wax.
Looks like you hit the right day.

I'll likely head up that way Monday for a day trip, in case anyone else is free that day.
Your phone takes kicks ass pictures. I plan on heading up on the 27th for a one day trip.
Any other TAY'ers up for a trip?

Any shrund below the saddle?
Nice job, looks like the snow was creamy goodness!
Great film ! Great tunes! Thanks ;D
Thanks.  I'm sure glad we opted for the Fuhrer Finger descent over the Kautz - what a sweet ski!!
Good job and great effort on the one day ascent. Keepin' it simple.
The ghost of Norman Clyde, having migrated north to the Cascades, haunts summit sunsets solo-ski style.  Nice.
regarding the fella using the 'speed flying' (parachute) rig....anyone get a chance to talk with them about their gear?

every since those crazy videos of speedflying the Eiger and Mt.Blanc popped up on the internet this winter, I've been really curious to try this....but it seemed like the only place in the US that even sells the gear is in SLC.

please send me a PM if anyone's got some info.  gracias.
There may be some folks up as early as Friday.  Myself and the people I'm going with will be there Saturday.  I think we are going to do some pre-ski biking on the middle fork trail that day, so we'll be at Corrigan by early evening.  I'm planning on skiing Diamond Sunday.  I'd not be surprised if there were folks skiing it again Monday, though I'll probably leave Sunday evening.  It should be a good time.  As to the following weekend, I...
Rocks fell every minute or two from Steel Cliff but there was no rockfall at all on the route, only occasional flakes of rime ice.
Good job!

Way to creatively avoid the crowds. How was rockfall at that time?

The S.Side ski is still on my list.

FYI, there is going to be a good crew of folks, mostly pinheads, at Corrigan Lake Memorial Day weekend.  Swing by.

What days are you going to be there?  Like Matt said, we're planning on a trip the following weekend, but I might be able to squeeze in another run at Diamond on Memorial weekend.  I'm still a little bent about getting that close...
Buck - I remember you from Snowdome last summer.  I'd love to swing by for Memorial weekend, but I have plans and probably can't break them.  However, Todd and I were thinking about doing the South Sister the following weekend.  It'd be fun to have some others come along - got any plans?
Couple of us were up there Sunday, May 13, via Marie Lake on a bluebird day.  Lotsa snow at and above the lake, spotty but skiable in the trees below. Fast descent from D. Peak.

Awesome outing!  Great TR and pics.  I can imagine what your weather was like up there, as I was camped at Moraine Lake beneath the North Face of Forbidden on the 13th.  It was less than nice, that's for sure.
Saw yer tracks.  At least you got to ski some good snow.
I was sent home on this peak once. I remember telling a friend, "Hey, look (!) there are tracks here." It so happened I had just gone in a giant circle and come back around to my own tracks. I still crack up about that  ;D. I still get sh*& for it.  ;)
I wanna go! It looks awesome. A new place to add to my list. Thanks for the trip report. 8)
We moseyed on up to Cascade Pass and then up the Sahale Arm and across the Sahale Glacier.  On the way down we cut over the arm and skied out Soldier Boy Cr.... which made for some interesting tree skiing.  Nothing too fancy though.  A short day in all.
You REPRESENT for us  :)  ...and the planet....
I am the USA's next Snow-et Laureate.  :D
rad pics, michael!  speaking of chains, i wouldn't be surprised if you guys lugged that thing up there yourselves, just for exercise.  ;)  glad you weren't trapped in the fog the whole time!
are geezers in paradise anything like cheeseburgers in paradise?? ;)

looks like you had a good ole' time out there, and i'm sure ron's "Tarantula Azul Blue Margaritas over fresh powdered snooowww" were fantastic too.  you guys always ski in style!  ;D
