Great trip, thanks guys!
Photos posted as promised.  I've put my best 28 up at my web site, but here are the best three:

Upward into the fog.

Yes, it snowed on us.  In August.

That trip looked hella rad.  I'm going up on Friday if you can take the day off...
I think I was one of the 100 you passed on your way down right above Pebble Creek.  Red boots with skis on my back.

My story is similar, but with a later start from Paradise (11:30am).  Got to Muir at about 3pm.  The clouds had indeed risen and I didn't see sky until 9500'. I wore trail runners up to 9000', where I switch over to my AT boots when I saw slush and ice and realized I needed something to kick steps with.

You can thread around the patchy parts jus...

... Imagine that....skiing right next to the road in the Olympics in September. Who woulda thunk?

Easy access patches in the fall are quite cool.

You should really invest in a metal detector then traveled more established routes. You will be raking it in.  . . . So much so that the 5% idea fee I collect will be nothing ;-)

Yeah, I lost a ski up in Devil's Kitchen this year.  Maybe someday someone will find it.
I just skied that same slope today.  It was the same slope that I got my July turns on, though it was MUCH larger a month ago.  It's still good, and I predict that it will be around in September.  Imagine that....skiing right next to the road in the Olympics in September.  Who woulda thunk?

I found a pretty new water bottle Sunday and a watch the week before.  At this rate, I'll never have to work again!

Thanks everyone for the kind words  :D.
Wow, that first BIG turn was way scary, :) but after that it was just like riding a bike  ;D.
More powder to ya ! Hope to share some with you soon.
Congratulations Jeanette.  You are an inspiration to all!

I was thinking, too, that if I ever break my leg, I want to do it just like you.
Ah yes, my partner mentioned how a certain nearby area was a secret stash for a certain skier...
Nice trip report, Jonathon!  I'm a bit surprised that at least one of the moderators let this pass with all of the photos, since it is suspiciously close to his hidden stash. ;D

I appreciate all of your detail.  Thanks for the pictures.  After your report, I'm thinking of swapping out my ski poles for two umbrellas.    Kudos for your wife going with you for some of the elevation gain!
Looks like a dream-scape, thanks for sharing!
I second - breathtaking photos, that dragons breath one is especially incredible.

Glad the cups were filled in for ya - definitely hard to complain about smooth snow in August!
Wow, Breathtaking photos.
That's a fantastic overnighter.
Thanks for the inspiring TR and especially the great cloud pix!

I'm praying for further fresh snow up there in September, as I'm under orders to take off at least 10 days from work in the next month.

... Weather down in town wasn't the greatest, was it decent enough up on the mtn?

"Decent enough"?  Yeah that would sum it up nicely.
No rain. "On instruments" car to top of climb. Broke out of the cloud base at the bottom of Golden Gate face on the way back down. Broken clouds and sunbreaks after that.

You did fine, Jeanette, rea...
Jeanette - GREAT job!!!  I look forward to skiing with you in Sept!!

Being in Seattle with Slush Cup in progress was frustrating, but alas, this trip was primarily non-skiing.

Spill the beans---are you now in the AFC?  ("August Freshies Club"  8))

Well let's see, I've been laid up for a while and it's been quite a while since I've seen freshies, so I suppose to me yep, freshies it was ;).
I was thinking about the up coming winter yesterday and i found this link

Scroll down to the august 16th & 25th entry.  It's for north Idaho mostly and i don't understand most of it, but i sounds promising.

Congratulations on your first post!  At least you got to slide those big bad ol' boots down the hill.   ;D

On the subject, does anyone know if this wet summer weather is part of a longer pattern?
I read somewhere this spring that we may well be in the middle of a 2-3 year La Nina pattern with another winter like the last one in store!  -can't remember the source....
Yeah!  It is great to see a report from Norway!  Awesome!
Nice work Dan!  Holy crappola, way to nab some gnarly tracks in August!  Major kudos!
Meadow Rovers eh - that's their official moniker? Andrew called them 'Volunteer Flower Arrangers" - that still cracks me up.

Anyhow - way to get out! Weather down in town wasn't the greatest, was it decent enough up on the mtn?
Way to streak!  Another advantage of Mondays is fewer Meadow Rovers    ::)
Whoa, solo on the Quien Sabe in August?  Yeah baby
As telemack said, access onto the glacier appeared to involve steep, loose rock and/or bare glacier ice until we traversed NE updrainage to the cleaver that separates the Paradise from the lower Cowlitz.  If the snow tongue between the bare glacier and the cleaver melts, access by scrambling up the cleaver looks feasible and not too onerous.  Above that, the glacier is still in very skiable shape, although with some medium-large cracks showing, but easily avoidable.  It'd be...
Dan, that first shot is very impressive. Are you gonna go back into Canada and ski some of those lines. I went to Norway and you can ride a t-bar for some  'intermediate terrain', over there. Keep on rackin' 'em up, Rob
That photo scares me, especially near those holes at mid photo!!
Good job Dan!
Looks like great snow!!!
And thankyou for another great tr!!!
Dan-  climbed Shark Fin and saw this from our camp at 7900 feet ... must have been a tough walk down the trail with skis!  Nice one.
We had no choice but to keep doing laps... we'd forgotten the beer at home...  :'(

Glad to have company up there - take care!
Are you kidding me?  Was I really just skiing in August?  Thanks for the great day Rubes.  I've never been more motivated to prepare early for the upcoming ski season.  Those 5 minutes of skiing were worth the 5 blisters I've got screaming on my FEET.

Could not have asked for a better day, weatherwise; and kudos to the cats that were lappin' it up there.  Millsak...If you want the photo, I'll e-mail it to you.  You earned the ri...
Hey rubes,

It was cool to see you guys up there.  What a great day!  The ridge off to the west was indeed worth a couple of laps.  We were pretty happy to have such good August conditions.

Fortunately, I filled yesterday's quota for spills when I bit it right in front of you.  I'm not too disappointed not to see the pic posted.  I figured a spill like that deserved some public humiliation. :)  You've got to pay attention i...
I may thorw in a couple more pics if I can get the thumbnail posting deal worked out -- this pic is kinda lame cause it does'nt show how steep  the rock was.
Great video, joedabaker and pictures all!  I hardly feel like I missed it.  :'(
Thanks!
Way to get it Andrew and Telemack.

I was looking at the Paradise glacier while grinding my way out of Stevens Canyon on my bike Friday. I was thinking that the two of you where getting a better ROI for your efforts (I had a while to contemplate this...).

Glad you found some good skiing. The mountain looked spectacular with the whitewash up high and the meadows were as lush and full of flowers as I can remember for August. It was a nice day to be out.

I think we met near Pebble Creek. I was going up, you were coming down. Hi again.

The snow was no doubt heavier for me a few hours later, but also tons of fun--an interesting project, linking shallow patches of white near the top, and avoiding them near the bottom.
So nice to be out in fresh snow, even if it's scattered about.

Nice going Alpenho!  It's good to hear a non-volcanoe report for August turns.  Good luck with with the streak.
Way to go Mac.  Glad to see you making the most of it before "back to school"
We were in the "neighborhood" yesterday too.  Good job and a beautiful day to be up on the hill.  :)
