Well done, it is good to see your streak survived injury!

I was just asking Scotsman about you today wondering the status of the leg. He said that you were in a cast on Saturday?? Is there more to this story than I am privy to know?
I see two boots in the picture, do you have a Dr who works Saturday evenings?
At any rate good job, you know it's just a number? ;D
Cheers to your improved health!

You got it buddy, I love cuddling with men.
You got it Bob.
next time I will sty longer?
Funny Joe.
Yeeeaaahhhhh - this is great news! Congratulations Jeanette, good to know we've got our MadDog back out tearing it up on the snow! :)
Mad Dog: good job. Do you feel it strained your leg? How does the leg feel, and are you wearing any braces or reinforcements for your knee?
Decades ago I smashed my ankle pretty badly rock climbing. I went climbing 5 times (toprope only ::) ) with the cast on, and people thought I was nuts. My wife warned me that if I reinjured myself she would stop waiting on me!

Nice to see you on snow again.
Jeanette, After watching Jill recover from a few accidents, I know how determined a "woman with a mission" can be. We are pleased to see that you are mobile again. ;)

Very nice work gentlemen- surely looks like an amazing place to cuddle. I definitely have that on my list now and will be sure to get it next year with Joe, I am sure.
Chris

I am glad to see that you are packing and using...
And to think that I thought you were faking because you were tired of skiing with Ron. ;D
Welcome to the active roster Jeanette and thanks for being a hero to Scotty. He needs a good role model.

Cheers to Jeaneatte! I bet you really missed the mtns after such a long stay away. I hope all those books, movies, and quality time didn't turn your brain to mush, I find the mountains do wonders for that. I did enjoy your inventiveness while away though- the ski chair thingie was classic!
Welcome back.

good one. You're braver than us. We drove to Mowich Lake yesterday but didn't even get out of the car. Just sat there and drank a couple morning beers, while watching the steady drizzle. Amazing amount of snow around the lake for this time of year.
Yeahhhhhh Mad-dog. Congratulations. Yuz my hero GiRL!!!!!
Very nice shots as others have remarked.
Next year Ruth is on the must do list for me mainly because those rocks look so comfortable to nap on...it seems that everyone that does this trip sleeps on those rocks.
Oh and that ski line smack dab in the middle chute is enticing too...
Excellent report.

Way to Oink out a couple days. :D
That is a good walk for sure.

Nice report Dan, I love the classic shot of your skis and the slope in every report-it is signature.
Man I gotta get some rest just reading that report, keep knocking those big ones off!
You're on tough dude.

Very nice work gentlemen- surely looks like an amazing place to hike/ ski. I definitely have that place on my list now and will be sure to get it a bit earlier next year with Joe leading the way, I am sure.

I am glad to see that you are packing and using a camera, Joe. Maybe the next time that we ski together you'll have some pictures of me. :)
Nice work guys. I plan on hitting it Wednesday, hopefully. Park indicated a somewhat committing washout crossing was possible close to where the timberline trail used to cross. He recommended some shoes for the crossing. I saw the washout last year and know how knarly it is. Anyway, if find a way across I'll be sure to post. Sorry I could not link up with you. Take care.
I heard about the guy this morning, that's no good :'(
If you saw us with the binocs, it was probably pretty ugly, as the snowdome was nice and cupped. The turns were much smoother down low, as you can see in the pictures. I think we saw you pull in in the Chevy Thursday night. We hiked up to the buildings and took pictures of the flowers, but didn't see you (I don't think we went far enough). Anyway, what a beautiful place........

Nice work guys! I think I saw you coming down through my binocs and wondered where you went when you went out of sight. I was camped in the Chev PU. I think we saw you pull in Thursday night.
I was limited to armchair tracks- was back at work by 1:00- but hope to pay my dues this week. It is nice to know what to expect. I wish I had the ambition to do the lower part again- since the washout. I was asking a bud about the best trail down for a...

Great work guys. Sorry that you didn't complete the loop, but, hey, at least you got to hang out at Moth Lake. I hope to sometime return to the area and ski the Butterfly and Moth Glaciers, maybe earlier season when the S side of Clark has some snow on it. Thanks for the TR.
Thanks for the report, especially the snow & meadow conditions. Haven't been able to get up there for a couple weeks and my brother is about to arrive on his annual visit from Colorado.
Thanks Dan. I was beginning to worry that I was going to have to go and do that one myself.
;)
Keep up the good work.

Nice, looks like the headwall is holding up really well still!
It sure is. So nice I had to ski it twice. Much of the skiing above Spray Park is in good shape. Nothing not easily avoided in terms of crevasse danger. Bugs and falling rock seem to be the things to watch out for.
I have many pictures
Hey stoudema, thanks for letting me tag along. It was a great to explore the north side of Hood with you guys.
Here is a photo of stoudema on the Langille with the Coe glacier in the background and another, just out of the trees on the trek back up the west ridge to where we could cross back over to the trail back to Cloud Cap.

... The next 12 miles were difficult, becoming progressively so, this was perhaps mostly a psycological effect - if the trail had been another 10 or 20 miles, would I have collapsed unable to continue?
That's a pretty good description of how I felt hiking out on the Hoh when I did that trip. I did it almost as fast as you -- it only took me THREE DAYS!!! ::...
8) I love the Napequa, I backpacked through there last summer and up the North fork (right-ways) to High Pass. Did you go right where the north fork goes left??
Those peaks are spectacular lookin', I'm envious :D

Stoudema, loofus and I were up on Snowdome the 25th and saw the same tracks. They remembered this TR and knew exactly whose they were. The pictures cannot come close to doing that line justice!
One of my big goals was to get up in there this year, but I didn't, so this TR finds me with a smile on my face, and a promise to get up in there next year.
Jeff, one of my wildest animal encounters was right there on the Ho. Middle of the night and bugling elk. You'd have thought it were one or two, only to realize the dozens of feet tromping across the river added up to more than a a couple, surely. And to find yourself in the midst of it all, to the left and right...ever...

Powder, corn DAN - if you ever come by way of the Sierra's there are some 60 degree chutes located out of Bishop. As for me I squeaked some turns out on a lower snowfield of Lassen with a meager 30 - 35 degrees, Rob (May is ideal for the Sierra), by-the-way w/winter snow in those chutes.
Thanks Dale for posting Super Dan's route!!! That is so cool!!!!!!
Dan, I spent my first evening of the summer at Cloud Cap Thursday 7/25 and saw your tracks in the last light of sunset. I missed your TR but there was little doubt in my mind they belonged to you. I had read your Newton Clark story but missed this one. What a great line.
I think your line was partly Eliot Headwall, although I am not sure if that route is more the bare face. At least you did a lot of Eliot Glacier which I had fantasized about many times- but pro...

Dan, it seems like I am more amazed every TR! Your descents are awesome, but now adding incredible approaches. I was telling your story that the morning of the 25th (did you feel your ears burning?) as I tried to explain why people ski these routes, as I discovered tracks high above on Eliot Headwall. Of course I couldn't wait to get to TAY to read your story, but it wasn't there. ...
I think that was wild Dan H.---look for his TRs from about 2 weeks ago.
Good job, D---long haul, but I've thought if I ever do it I may as well carry skis so I can get it all in 1 trip. ::)
Sleep scientists have found that the more sleep-deprived a person is, the faster they enter REM/dream sleep, even skipping earlier stages. Dreaming is explained by several theories, but they all agree that dreams serve some psychological purpose.
I'm surprised by how INFREQUENTLY climbing and skiing appear in my dreams..... ???

Wow. That would be burly without carrying the skis! Nice write up and great photos - remember you can post them someplace else and put more thumbnails here to get around the 3 picture rule.
Brian's summary of the trip is accurate, but hardly does justice to the effort, frustration, beauty and hilarity we experienced. I remain convinced I was sandbagged to accompany skifish to the base of Tenpeak so he could nab the north couloir.
It was the wrong thing to do, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks, Brian

Dude, have you ever heard of sleep?? I know that time constraints of the modern world sometimes keep us from doing what would be best for us, but for next time I highly recommend spending a night sleeping on the gravel bar in the middle of the Hoh with the sound of that rushing water burrowing into your brain all night long---it works wonders for the soul. And there's no better way to wake up than jumping into that 45-degree glacier milk water. Old timers there used to tell me that th...
Nice job I was wondering if Mt Olympus is still Skiable,
Thanks Stugie, I was able to ski down to about 4400, perhaps a little lower including the sking on the nw side of the moraine.
I unfortunalty did not take any pictures of the rainforest, partly because I was in such a hurry, and partly cause the bueaty of the rainforest cannot be expressed accuratly by pictures, this can be said about most things, but the rainforest to me is an experience, also doing it again with a partner might be a good time to take pics, so a sense of scale with...

Wow, excellent read and great pictures and really nice work Dan! What elevation were you able to ski down to? That's sounds like a sweet trip. I'd be interested to see any pics you might have of the Hoh or the trail in - I've never been but always wanted to go.
... No disrespect to Charles, or the ordinances of this web-site, but judging by many recent trs, it looks like the 3-picture law has been removed, good. Anyway, if the law remains, let me know and I will unpost these pictures, thanks...
What a great trip. Too bad you couldn't complete the loop, but I guess that gives you a(nother) reason to return. Did you see the party of three on sunday who were making their way to Glacier? I think they said they had climbed Clark. Moving really fast but didn't seem too familiar with the area (when asked from where they started one guy told me the Nisqually river) Anyway, nice job getting back there.
Maybe I'll see you out there one day......

Looked like a good adventure in a wild place. Some amazing snow formations.
