I dont know much about ski boot sizes but my feet are size 12.5/13
and I thought snowboarding was the Dark side. ( I guess Ive been wrong for all these years)
With that size feet why do you need a snowboard. ;) ;)
I think 28.5 mondo is equivalent to a size 12 so they might be a bit small but you can try 'em if you want.

Beauty Zap... Shasta looks prime right now...
Chuck R and I were there on May 2, in a complete whiteout, and snow levels at 5,500 ft. However, Green Butte is a very nice objective in itself, and gives almost 2,500 feet back to the car (REALLY flat, though, on the road). The slopes are quite nice, and the rock relief was very welcome on the way down in the driving snow. We also had the luxury of my relatives owning a house down in Shasta. Nice fotos...

Kyle, I've a pair of 28.5 Garmont ski Boots( Megarides, the blue ones) you can borrow if you like.
I'll also lend you a pair of skis and skins if you want to come to the Dark Side.
Thanks for all the kind words
Out of all the ski boots to try the Megarides are on the top of the list.

Way to get out there Kyle! Sounds like a great trip to a infrequently skied range.
Too bad about the split... but I'm sure there'll be some snow left for the new board in June ;D

God damn...I'm driving there right now...seriously (I'm really not kidding).
Awesome Kyle, nice work...
I've got a pair of tele boots you could use, but they're probably way too small -- 27.0, I think.

Thanks for the TR. I, too have had my eye on Mt. Aix. So much to ski!
4+mi rd ski - good to know.

Wow, that was the snow I was hoping for. I hit it up this past Friday, the 8th, and it was pretty manky. The top of Bowl 4 was nice, but that's about all that can be said for the snow ;)

Sounds cool.
What was the name of the pass?
And did you get a look down the back side of the Marmolata? The south face is the biggest rock wall in the Dolomites.

After communications difficulties our party was very happy to retrieve our lap kitty on the E side of Kangaroo Ridge. Monika, Reed, Matt, Tim, Ryan and I had a very good time yesterday. We headed up from the hairpin and took a left close to the end of the valley and up towards the lowest points on Kangaroo Ridge. We made some turns into W Cedar Creek drainage and traversed to the t...
Double vision;) Nice write up Kyle. It appears from boots photo that we missed the best way down to the road off pt 7495
Very impressive Kyle, congratulations!
- thanks for the first account history! any highway, in or by the mountains, is a great thing. I put the rpt. on Tioga Pass highway (CA 120 ) last wkend !
I was waiting for Kyle to post his more thorough TR, but here is my version:

You are right - that was our favorite camp of the trip. Which route did you take off of Bear Creek? That was pretty intense (for us).
We descended the same way you guys did up top... traversing out onto the slope from the ridge. After the first hundred or so feet, we headed to the right as you did, except Tyler who took a steeper line down. I don't think a...

We followed your tracks most of the way... thanks for showing the way.
That camp you guys had high up on the route to Cox Col looked like a sweet spot. Must have been a great sunset from up there.

Great TR and pics. That was us who was in front of you - we started on Tuesday, May 5. Fabulous ski tour. Thanks for sharing. JM
We hear there were two subies needing help on Saturday. We helped one crew that appeared to be the first car up there in the AM, and they said they were heading to Iron and we said we were off to Earl. This subie crew had apparently been digging for a while before we arrived and the 4 of us helped lift and push. If that was you, thanks for making it quite clear that we'd reached the sensible parking spot ;D.

Careful with the mush if you head higher/shadier. Apparently quite a few folks got snow moving on Shasta yesterday. As far as I know (from afar), the Lassen road is also open to the Devastated Area/Emigrant Pass lot. Shasta looked mighty fine from the air (Hotlum and Wintun are pretty filled in), McLoughlin looked delectable but twitchy - smaller slides funneled down the gut of the N/NE bowls. Photos should land in the old TAY "Ski route photos" tonight. Heard rumors of...

nice trip you guys. like the rockin' readiness.
that's definitely Golden Horn on the left, pretty certain that's Tower on the right.
seemed to be a lot of folks with Hwy 20 on the mind this past weekend...

So much granite, so little time! Great photographs and well written report on such a nice area Andy- thanks for sharing! Fond memories of the sun, dry air, wild and alpine places, and of course the Mobile station (that place is such a successful concept!).
Great trip. Your timing was perfect - right after the big wind/snow event further north.
In addition to being such a wonderful place, with such great memories for so many of us, I wonder if Silver Star also holds the record for being the place where more of us have wandered off course on the approach (self included) than any other popular tour in our region.
30 years of any one thing is an achievement; time flys while your having fun!
As noted, I love the old shots. TR and the photos are Skoogtacular!

White Pass and the south cascades, in a few places got a ton of snow toward the end of the season, way above average.
Great for you guys to get out there. I'd have to ask the parents, but I think that was one of my first mountains. I always wanted to get out there to ski.

Yes, Great effort boys.
Kyle where is the Team Cascadia photomat of this rarely skied mountain?
Did I miss the description of the snowpack and Trip Report?
Great job, did you stop off at Whistlin Jacks for a root beer after?

Really great photos and would like more TR. I was on Silver King Sat morning and noticing more coverage on the Nelson Range there than I expected, for it being so far east. Did you come in via Bumping Lake? I presume the first shot is looking north to Nelson Ridge and that's point7537? Second looks like a shot to the south and Bismark? Three riding down the north bowl into NFk Rattlesnake? Looks like a lot of fun!
Thanks..
I only quickly glanced up the turnoff as I drove by & it was clear immediately off of FS-81. That said, when I left Saturday afternoon, there were several truck with snowmobile trailers parked at the stop sign so that leads me to believe that the snow isn't too far up the road.
There were still patches of snow at the clearcut just before the Climbers Bivy turnoff so it must have been a good snow year down there..

the skin up Aasgard was on frozen snow for the most part, so scary comes to mind!
The ski down Colchuck Glacier was really nice till about half way, then the sun and warm temps had done their handy work and the snow became dense and heavy.

nice story and awesome pix .... as a newbie wanna be ... this gives me great perspective on the sport ... thx!

Nice being able to drive well up Beverly Road although it required some Legacy extraction at 3000'.
That would have been us. Thanks again for the push! We should have headed your way, didn't find much snow worth skiing out our way.
Nice work. I'm glad to hear that the trip worked out.
I was planning on heading into that general area on sunday but I had a equipment malfunction >:(

... We're lucky to live in such a wonderful part of the world.
And we are equally fortunate in having Lowell to pioneer and document.
Nice TR, Lowell. Love the old-time perspective -- though people of our age are much too young to be 'old timers.' And, as always, the Skoog photos rock.
Fine pix. Where are the people?!
Was the road open to Climbers Bivy? I thought there was a TR from someone using that route a few weeks ago.

So awesome! Looks incredible! And what a fun to read TR!!
I skied the BD tour yesterday (5/9) and up the SR 20 side of Cutthroat today (5/10). Left the road at 8:30. Blue bird sky and blasting sunshine on the entire south exposure. Applied sunscreen and reapplied and I am still crispy. Bulletproof descent from the road acroos the creek which is still covered and solidly frozen in spots. The first 600 feet were soft and sometimes gloppy working through steep rock bands. Above, the surface remained firm and climbed well with ski crampons. I ascended abo...

Also works nicely counterclockwise but be ready for an icy climb up to the col.

Yours truly was part of the second Earl crew, after a visit to Judy, followed by the big crew (did not see the Maxwells among them). Certainly high water content stuff. We figured any west Cascades slopes would have too much mush.
Nice being able to drive well up Beverly Road although it required some Legacy extraction at 3000'.
I guess if the creek is so easy to cross then you have to walk in more afterwards.
Were you part of the brew crew Jim? I stumbled past the party in...

Wow. I look at that west facing col every day as it's one of my monitor screen backgrounds. Way to go.
Gettin' jiggy with it
And another.
