Actually, it depends on where that snowmobile was and where it came from. Anything on the traditional winter route about 4800' is now illegal according to this:

Nice Silas!

10,000 feet... I feel like I've barely gotten that all year.
Nice photos -- I was just looking for the approach to the west face of CBR, though I expect the route won't be in shape for a while yet.
Here is a photo of Argonaut, Stuart and Colchuck

Hopefully this helps

Sorry Im only allowed 3 pics so here is a link to more

Got any pictures looking over toward Aasgard and Colchuck Balanced Rock?
Heh -- I was going to add that I've been one of those flexing peacocks in the past, and will probably be again.  I love dancing around on rock, but ski touring grabs me in a different place.

While we were up there a snowmobile came gunning up to the top.  Needless to say, the noise was very annoying.  Is it allowed for snowmobilers to go to the top?

I believe it is legal for them to go to the rim, but in my opinion it shouldn't be.  While we were there a couple weekends ago a 'biler was headed for the rim, wiped out and either broke his arm o...

Looks like your trip a year ago was similar to ours, skiing and enjoying the bounty of the seas as well. That guy in the bar with the cowboy hat is still there!
Cordova and the Heney range are very special. Thanks for sharing your photos. Where are you based, UTAH??

Nice work! the west face of Bob Corn is a great falline. When conditions allow the couloirs off bob corn and Heny pk and the wsw face of heney are fantastic skis as well. PNH has been closed for the season for a little over a week now and all the other heli operations in ak to last week to the best of my knowledge.

Hugely jealous of your trip.
Ceanothus does have a strong smell, though I never associated it with Big Red chewing gum...explains why deer are partial to it (Buckbrush is the common name).

Regarding poking fun at the rock scene, I also poke fun at myself ... I'm as much a part of it as the next hardware-jangling cow. I agree, Marcus, ski touring is the more soulful pursuit.
Wow, Joe. What a great read and great pics. Thank you, thank you, for the ski porn and literature--I only subscribe to TAY for the articles  ;)... I'm lusting and drooling, looking forward to more.
The Scottish one beginning the day a mile or two from Leo's place.  It was probably about 10 AM and 65 degrees out.

The alpine presents itself readily to the Cordovian climber.  This is at about 1500' with Mt. Heney behind Chris.   Leo a...

Here a few pics of the environs.  As Chris said, we lucked out with the weather.  It was clear, sunny and warm for the entire weekend.

You could not escape the mountains of the Heney Range looming three thousand feet above town.

A tad better visibility than we had up there the day before!

Nice TR and great ski!

Yeah, what a difference a day makes, eh?
Sounds like you guys had a great climb and ski. Here are the routes we skied on Saturday. The first image is the route on Mt Angeles that Greg and Dan skied in the afternoon. The second is the route our group skied off of Steeple Rock earlier in the day. The blue line is our climbing route, the red is our ski route. This line continued down into the valley through glades to elev. 4000' Tyler (Chmnyboy) and his friend Les rode several of the chutes off Steeple Rock in the center of the pictu...
If it's where I think it was you heard I-70 for the first thirty minutes of your tour, it was south facing, and it begins with a "D."
A frame? Sounds like the Rainy Pass Hut to me. Perfect, we need to pursue that...

Thanks again for the info. We'll see what the snow/wind/rain etc.. does. Hopefully I can reciprocate with a good report and some stoke worthy pictures later in the week.

and the limit to my adventurism is when I start mixing large quantities of Alcohol with B.C. touring  ;)

Joe I look forward to touring with you soon and i'm still game for tour we were talking about.

there's this on the Crystal website:
We started at the nicely plowed pullout with the outhouses (which are open, incidentally) and went straight up the chute, for the most part. The choke(s) were easy to get past on the up. They'd also be easy to get by on the down but, like I said, pretty rubbley. The lower one wasn't too bad because the latest wet slide had sort of "groomed" it.

There is a small A-frame cabin near the bottom. It shows on the topo map. anyone know what the story is with that? It wou...
Hi Dave -

Powder in May in Colorado is not unusual, you just have to ski it before the sun does its work.

And yes, I do mind.  I enjoy the quiet of this place.  If I can find it, others can without my help.
Yup. That's the one. Nice work getting on that line, its really aesthetic

The chute that goes to the hwy (just skiers L of the ridge line, I think its the one you're talking about) caught my eye first. It looked like it might have a bit of debris and maybe a cliff/choke this year. Thanks for confirming that - maybe it will fill in with the new snow? One can hope.

Kevin - is the ridge line in your linked photo the 'county line' run (the border between Ch...

Anyone ever ski the ridge line in the 3rd photo?

Amazing lines up there.

If you're talking about the line that drops off the west side of Whistler Mt (right skyline in that photo), then yes. I skied it on Saturday with others. A nice sustained line but the main chute is choked with debris. We stuck to the ridge on skiers right and found nice corn in sp...

Great TR -- hard to make a bad choice when you've got sunshine, but this:

Vantage Rock Mall amongst a flock of flexing peacocks

is classic and a strong argument for the ski tour :)
Andy, another wonderfully crafted report!
Looked like a great adventure and the clear weather also caught me by surprise.
In this day of high tech weather reporting, Mother Nature's Spring closet is always full of surprises and can beat the best technology has to offer!

I always wondered, yet never lifted a finger in research, what that brush is that you whacked through. Hmmm... Ceanothus or some variety of the source.
That brush, in the fall emits a fragrance that...
Nice -- that last pic is great.

We're trying to put together a hut trip next year -- maybe Kokanee, if we can get the lottery.  I'll let you know.

If you have a couple of spots that need filling, drop me a line.  We'd love to get out with you again.
thats a far more sensible method of 'sled laps' than i saw at Turnagain Pass a few years ago... Becky and I saw snowboarders that would ride up on their sleds, then let the sled ghost ride back down the mountain in neutral...then they'd hop on their snowboards and chase after them...

great pics Toby.... I need to spend some time up there!
you know what they say, the steeper the berry the sweeter the juice!

or something like that.
GET TO THE CHOPPER!......THE BRIDGE IS OUT!!!!
I found the pic and figured out how to make it smaller, FWIW...
RandoBro is stuck on the other side of the bridge:(
Joe,  Might have done that same tour about same time last year, maybe. 8)  It is quite a ride and may, or may not, do it again this year.

I logged under the wrong name, It was acutally a trip report by
Andy Traslin.Who cares a lot. Faith no More.
Nicely done in less than good touring conditions. Great pictures too.
Marcus. We need to hook up! Are you doing a hut trip or two next year? We may need a couple of people to fill some spots. As far as the sledding, it is new to me this year. Stacy and I each rode our own sleds in. This was our first experience with sled laps, as we usually just access a certain area to ski via skins. For sled laps, first you tandem up on one sled (one person on one side rail and another on the other side, facing forward). Then you ski your line to the sled that you "stashed&...
Big country up there Toby -- wow.  I'll bet you have a ton of nice photos...

How do the sled laps work?  Do you have a designated driver who takes you up and then shoots back down to the bottom?
Nice work Kyle -- that's a great angle on Kaleetan.
A tad better visibility than we had up there the day before!

Nice TR and great ski!
Awesome! I had been wanting to do the same but my partner bailed. Boo! Glad to see that it was a decent idea but just unable to come to fruition.
I have not been on that particular ridgeline (Whistler), but it looks possible, at least a little easier closer to the local knob. Turn left 90 degrees and it should look something like this:

Again, great job and super vibe photos.

~ yeah super vibe pics !!
and I'm sorry about Vags; he was very lucky to have lived a long life knowing you.
Yeah Holly!  That smile pic speaks volumes!  So glad you were able to get out and begin harvesting again!  No more bouldering, but as for climbing, that's another story...;)
Great stuff -- I love reading TRs for places I have to look up on the map.
Nice effort Andy and Scott.  We ended up climbing in Leavenworth and bagged skiing altogether on Saturday.  Drove up to the end of the road and probably turned around where you were parked!  Headed that way next weekend.
