Really nice trip, and good job getting up early.

thanks for sharing all those great shots!
super cool.
Great trip you two!  I guess the tongue burning happens, a friend of mine did the same last weekend...hmmm.  Hope to catch up with you guys at GG when the time comes.
Great write-up and shots, Monika.  Creative route, looks like a bunch of fun.

Ryan, sorry to hear about the 'abnormal' amount of suffering--perhaps you could try painting your tongue w/ zinc oxide...

For people skiing the Chutes the first time I'd say be cognizant of your elevation and be prepared for an extended skin traverse back around.  It's not very hard and pretty obvious route finding.  Not really a big deal if you're expecting it and probably worth it for a more consistent fall line ski rather than trying to climb/traverse back West earlier in the descent....
the west face is supposed to be one of the classic cascade runs and with good reason. reminds me a bit of the sw chutes on adams only not quite as steep and a bit longer maybe.
Wearing my plasticene clown mask, my polka-dotted tie and my big, clumsy, weird shoes, I'm asking that posters edit their language in this thread.  This will save moderators the trouble.

Thanks much!

À coeur vaillant rien d'impossible.
Thanks for the TR!!  Heading down this weekend to give it a go Saturday.  Last year, I was there later, and skiied down to the 'Round the Mnt Trail and back to the South Side.  This year we want to go early with better snow pack for a more complete ski.  Any additional current beta on your traverse back around after the chutes?  Elevation or landmarks??  Appreciate the help!!
Eric's safety steps are SIIIIICK!  That's one worth posterizing!
Great pic Jim.  I'll bet Mack put on his best dropping off the top of Eldo when he saw your fancy camera come out.  At least there will be one good picture on this TR  ;)  I'll try to ferret out a decent photo or two to post later.
Good to meet you guys as well.  Glad that we were able to share the summit with you on such a beautiful day.  I felt bad for those of you who descended that trail in ski boots.  No thanks.

Pete skins up Redoubt - we topped the glaciated face but declined death-slurpy on the east-facing traverse into the hidden couloir.

Eric follows sidesteps to "safety."
Ditto to Jasons, "Damn"!  Nice work!!  8)
Glad you guys made the trip Dan, it seems to be the place to hit this year.
Very Nice Boys.
Great trip, great TR.
MOSSom trip guys!  Way to take advantage of the weather.  Aside from some moderate stability concerns, thing were pretty much ideal in the Cascade high country this weekend.  Thanks for sharing the TR.  Perhaps you can show me around up there.  (I'll step up my game so that I can roll with ya'll.)
Thanks for sharing beta with me as you crossed the Eldorado Gl.  It proved helpful.
As Tobae said, the photo's hardly do the scenery justice but great pics none the less.
Thanks Monica! (and Ryan, I think we met on your Dragontail exit?)

So I'd say that I'm probably more on the scared than excited camp about those rock bullets.  Pete did warn me but there's something to be said about having 'em whiz by your head making that high pitched whirling noise.  They seem to be coming out of nowhere, picking up speed along the hard snow and bouncing like a football.  Later on the ski down, when the snow was soft, the rocks seem to dig in mor...
Cooler than a moose & twice as hairy!
Sounds like an amazing trip! Great photos, too :)
My favorite low-tech pollen cleaner is WD-40 and a rag.  Cleans it right off and doesn't dry the base as much as more conventional solvents.  At home - a hot wax including scraping does the job with no solvents.

That rockfall is impressive -- and right in the center of one of my favorite spring runs :(
Wow!  Great work.  Schlepping a splitter up there is he-man stuff.  And it's a short list that has exited Luna Creek.

Sometimes that range can be a pretty private place

Especially this time of year!  We had it all to ourselves in August 1993 and again in August 2003, but I hear that it's a busier place in prime season these days.
Here's a shot Jeff got of you ripping Eldo Mac. Thanks for the funny poem on my TR (OMG that trail down did a number on my quads!). Nice meeting you guys.

Very Nice. Cool you ran into Casey and Morgan.
BTW, West-side Road is still closed.  It was plowed to the parking lot long ago, but avy debris still dominates the parking lot so the park is not going to open it until "the snow melts"--the slides were well over 10 feet deep when I was up there last.  So that's 3.x miles walk out from the lot (ca 2700 ft) to 706 (ca 2100 ft).
Sounds like a great trip. Sorry I couldn't make it. Dealing with the objective hazards of a family gathering wasn't as cool as Eldorado but still had its terrifying moments.

Unfortunately during the more intense portions of the trip I developed a bad habit of forgetting about my camera but hopefully these will help if you are thinking about heading to the Picketts soonl
Cheers.
Strong work!

I especially like your photo #30 of the McAllister cirque. What a beautiful place.

awesome pix. thank you,  we're not worthy.

I love this trip report. I love eldorado. I love pain.
I love posting TRs but had to unpack my stinky sleeping bag after work.  The first try floated off into cyberspace, so I restarted, posted, then modified.  Emoticons added to assist editing ecstasy.
Sometimes that range can be a pretty private place - glad you got it this weekend., T'was a fine time for it.
Just to give an idea of how poorly I felt, I actually sunburned my tongue. The next time I suffer I'll remember to do so with my mouth closed  :)

Thanks Mo-money for the great time...

Knowing how much both of you love doing TRs, Brad & I were betting we'd never see this TR.  I correct my comments - great report!

Way to go Becky, Pete and Andy !!
Glad you got such purrfect finger conditions !
Nice. Sounds like a really fun trip.

Here's a shot of south sister from just before you went.

Dang!  Now I wish we did hit the Prouty - looks like the chute was it pretty good shape.

Stugie - BT looked sweet.  Wish we would have hit it.  Buell did 3 separate lines on it on Sunday.  I'd like to go back this weekend and hit the crater bowl.
Way to go guys! Sweet camp photo. Love it.
if this is the best narrative your darrington education is capable of please at least post up your 3 pictures.  nice job guys!
South Sister looked good! Wish I could have gotten up it, but middle sister had to do.

Here's a shot of south sister from just before you went.

There must be so much more to this story! Amazing. Way to get your snowboard back there. I am impressed!!! Challenger was one of my best ski trips ever...even with all the work.

Very nice pics there Jim.  Glad you could make use of our tracks - what a beautiful country.  Pretty lucky to still ski to the lake ayeh?
Thanks for the info.
This ski/mountain stufff can be taxing when living at sea level....
We were wondering who made those lovely tracks.  It looked GREAT!  I'm pretty sure this photo was taken in the vicinity of where y'all camped,  on the divide between the Wilson and VanTrump like Telemack suggested:

Becky, you're not alone in your troubles with altitude ;) Monika and I turned around at 13000' on Saturday over on the Tahoma due to a combination of conditions (to...
Yes, there are several nice little campsites with rock walls already built up lookers left of the Finger and the Thumb on the divide at around 9200' (I don't have Smoot in front of me so can't say for sure that's what it's referring to).  We left camp a little after 4am and had great cramponing conditions in the Finger.  Sadly, my recurring problems with altitude prevented us from summiting on Sunday (thanks to Pete and Andy for being willing to turn around with me), but...
