Fun day guys.
It should be noted that Stewie went uphill like a frickin mountain goat all day. I've sent him some photos "sans thumb" for subsequent editing into his report.

It was great to get out with you, Jimmy. I'm hoping you can see your way past those housekeeping duties and join us next weekend. I'll second the Scotsman regarding the ladybug pics. We're all either adults or knowledgeable teens here, right?
Snowking is a gorgeous mountain. Its sad that everything is melting away and we couldn't make it! Next time indeed...
Neutrogena SPF 55 has worked well for me. You can get it at any drugsture. Since Neutrogena has so many out now, here's a link to what it looks like: http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Dry-Touch-Sunblock-Helioplex-3-Ounce/dp/B000FKJR8Q. It seems to run into the eyes less than the SPF 70 for some reason.
Thinking of heading up to Mt St Helens this Friday and hoping the weather patterns this week bring on some more corn.
Nice pics!

Glad you guys got out on the hill. Chris' thumb looks great, next time I get to Washington Pass I'll look for the large thumb on top of Madison Ave. :D
Views must have been spectacular!

Nice report Stewie. I think you should also carry the camera on the next outing. ;)
Should have taken a pictue of the ladybugs, I love ladybug porn! :)
Nice to see you out and about again!

Very nice Keith.
There's still plenty snow at WA pass for your trip next week.

This is a nicely written trip report Stewie. Keep them coming!
Chris posted photos! I guess you can teach and old dog a new trick.
A vision of a father and son power team of journalists is emerging.
Have you seen my photos??? :-[
Stewart was reviewing my photos on the way home and 16 of the 20 I took had a thumb in them.
At least we...
Too bad, but glad you made it out OK to make another attempt.
You made it further than our February attempt... got to the Cascade River Rd and my partner realized they didn't have their skins ::)

nice to stretch the run all the way down to Govy, isn't it?
Yeah that was fun - with fresh snow it would be a blast.
I guess people just head towards the summit thinking nothing can go wrong, following others like it's no big deal. Given the conditions, Saturday was not a good day to try to top out.

Nice! We were doing laps off of Palmer on Saturday, and I was surprised how many people we could see heading towards the summit, given the conditions. It sounds like you guys found some good snow up higher - nice to stretch the run all the way down to Govy, isn't it?
Some Pics.
Please excuse the thumb!
Great day son, thanks for leading the way!

I enjoy the phood photos.
Here you go! Clockwise from the top: schlag (whipped cream), deer, lettuce with preislbeern (cranberry sauce), knoedel (bread dumpling.) 12euros, which has been as inexpensive as $15 this spring, but now is more like $17.
Don, thanks for a a good laugh! I appreciate punny humor. :) And yes, winter skiing is definitely "cooler" than spring.

hi all,
Im looking to ski MSH next weekend and have never done so. How and where can you pick up a climbing permit? Can you get it on line or does it have to be done in person? Looks like you had a great time!

my brother Todd and I skied the chutes as well after heading to muir. Very good skiing on the first 2/3rd, a bit mushy down low. great views, great company great mountain.
Silas, I hope you bring home some recipes, and not just ski pictures. I enjoy the phood photos. A variation on the old saw...
Leave only ski tracks and take only recipes. Looking forward to skiing/eating with you again.

works well on fair babies too.
Can you buy babies at the fair now? Sorry, I can never resist a pun.
I like Brad's "Farmer tan". Pretty good for a city boy. Usually, it's the arms, though. Brad, and Holly, that 2nd picture of Holly has telemarktips written all over it. I think you should send Mitch at TTIPS Holly's...
Your pictures and TR are wonderful. I was in Nisquallie yesterday in same hot and beautiful weather. 8)
I've been using coppertone sport 15 for years (it comes in much higher spf too) - does not run into eyes or feel greesy, ok with my sensitive skin, only need to apply once a day (but better to reapply in case you missed a spot - though I never had a problem), works well on fair babies too.

With the pictures already disclosed I'm not sure what my TR will provide. Ahhh yes, the details.
Holly and I set the alarm for 4am...ha, an ambitious start time. After ignoring it several times and hiding in my sleeping bag through her rustling (It seemed like she was eating chips and sleeping in a mylar bag) we finally got up and underway by 5:30. The folks in Nisqually was our group plus a few we picked up at Muir. Stability and skiing felt great on the way down. Little mashy near the bottom, but nothing the Manaslu's couldn't handle.
The cornice hucker was a friend...didn't know he was gonna do that. Glad for his sake and mine the cornice stayed put and I was above.

Nice, concise and informative report. We were across the valley looking over at your line, thinking, "bet there's some good skiing there today". That summit stretch looks steep!
We were skiing that face on the far right of your 2nd picture. Will post a little report later today...

Great trip report and adventure Chris and gang!
I love that last photo. When I look at it I think, Well only 2000 vert more of this then it will get a little tougher after that...
Funny I had a dream last night that I skied a chute like the one in your picture, but there was a foot of new and it was all filled in...gotta love those dreams!

Still skiing to (and from) the Marblemount Sno-Pk. Though, two slush-puddles are forming, the snow is getting narrow between tree-wells, and the trail has 6ft. melted out just after you exit the trees and cross above a small dryfall by the end of a ridgelett.
looks like a very nice day indeed- I am ready to go back there soon... how is the approach looking? getting melted out near treeline and in the woods yet?
I guess I should be patient and wait for the report.
Glad you two had fun. I wish I were out there... soon I will be free.
Chris

Definitely thx for the report. We also skied this route (yesterday), my first on the mountain. It was a great place! Great snow.
Such a beautiful area but you earn your stripes accessing it no matter what the season. Nice attempt, though!

Nice job, and sounds like a good ascent rate.
We're going to Paradise tomorrow and I'm expecting it to be like skiing on pudding.
Nice. Rebecca and I are going for closing day at Bachelor tomorrow and then expect to skin it on Monday. I really want to ride the south facing slopes. Luckily, Bachelor got hardly any snow...

Fun report, Wolfs, as always. Did you bring the pink sweatered, four legged ski companion with you?
AT is the "dark side"- you've obviously never seen this video.
At is only the dark side from the drop-knee perspective, yo. 8)
Telemark: Norwegian for, "Hey man, wait for me!"

This season was a bad one (days-wize) for MOVENHIKE, that pic of "RIPPING THE NORTH FACE" feels like a 4th day for me, THNX.
I took a run up at the pass this morning too. I skied down around 8:30 and things were already starting to soften up a bit. Also, I stopped by Road 55 that runs along behind Humpback and it was blocked off with a sign saying they were repairing heavy damage. I don't remember too much damage a month or so ago when I skied up the road other than the odd burned out car one finds in the middle of the road. Something must have happened to take it out since then. So no access to the terrain there...
Amusing post. ;D As they say, it doesn't need to be fun to be fun.
Looks like I missed the better snow conditions by a day (“should have been here yesterday”) :'( Glad you got some good pow up high, that’s what I went looking for this morning… I took a quick skin up Alpental today (May 14) after arriving at parking lot about 11am still raining (hoped the rain would be subsiding by the AM).
Keeping it simple, skinned up to top of Chair 1 and then on the ridge lookers left of Chair 2 lift, up to top by way of Rollen (back under lift) which was nicel...

It was a friggan great time even though there was a longer than expected approach. I'm glad Kyle suggested it. I'm super bummed about Kyles board and not getting up Stuart, but glad that people are helping him ride into the sunset/sunrise. Means there will be a 'next time' sometime soon?...

God damn...I'm driving there right now...seriously (I'm really not kidding).
Jason,
Your timing should be perfect. The upcoming forecast is heating up. ;)
I am happy to say that Jon Garrison has saved me big time and let me borrow his Burton 168.
I must have a few Karma points stored away for this one.
On another note I'm still down to try skiing as long as someone is willing to split the hospital bill ;D
Thanks again for everyones help it is GREATLY appreciated

I've got a 171 mtn gun that could use some more mileage this season.
I've been mostly on my tele setup this winter, not sure why, as I love to snowboard. I guess I discovered the beauty of my rockered armada jjs and haven't been able to put them down. I can live without the split for the next month.
My very pregnant wife likely won't be using her old 159 sd freeride any time soon if you think shorter is better.

and I thought snowboarding was the Dark side. ( I guess Ive been wrong for all these years)
You have the same size foot as me Kyle, 29-29.5 is your size depending on the width of your foot. I have a pair of Garmont G-Rides for you and we need to figure out the liners.

Amar- when we skied it it looked like you could have skied anywhere down the glaceir or through the skiers right chutes without finding holes. there have been a few consecutive warm days since though. This route photo was taken the day after the ski descent from McCloud. let me know if and where to send a higher res photo if you would like it. There is a 2005 report i posted skiing into this area from around thumb rock if it is of any use. Thanks for all of your beta over the years.
Thanks for the very timely report, and nice route photo too! I've skied a dozen different routes on Shasta, but that line is one that I've been eyeing for years and not yet done. But I think I may be headed there by Saturday...
I've got some size 13 ski boots you can borrow, but they're at the opposite end of the spectrum of Megarides ;)
