Thanks Stugie!  It was an exhilarating ski.  Did I talk with you guys on the skin up on the day prior?
Thanks Holly and David!
Molly and I had a blast with you guys.  And I can tell you from experience that father-daughter stuff wouldn't have been nearly so cute if you guys weren't there.  There would have been pouting and meltdowns and hissy fits and foot stomping - and that would have been me!  I'm proud of Molly for climbing so hard and long - and proud of you (Holly) and your comeback!  Thanks too, David for insisting we rope up to cross all of those sled tracks.  I felt...

Nice Pete!  Kyle and I saw your tracks down the thumb and were duly impressed with the Schrund hopping!

Damn. Nice job on the Kautz. That looked bitchin.
Bramvs: snow was on the road a mile before the trailhead.

Joe: someone once advised me butter, cheese, ice cream and skiing were the best four pronged approach to recovery. Pretty sure I ate a stick of butter the day before (I butter just about everything), ate a significant amount of pepper jack to power me up the Roman Wall escalator, skied to my heart's content this weekend (okay, I could always do with more skiing, but it was enough to satiate) and finished off with a generou...
Glenn_B and Company,
A good day for all, including dogs. Not that there was one mind you. The north face of Fortune was creamy. A little more melt and there'd be swimming in Lake Ingalls. Not that I am hurrying up the season. Too many more routes to ski before the dirt season.

Thanks for the great write up Stewie and the additional trail details Scotty. Ed and I were just discussing this afternoon what this route might entail from trailhead to summit... as for the lenticulars, I was watching them throughout our ascent of Baker late Sat/Sunday, at one time noting how they seemed to be blocking the sun and casting an ominous shadow over much of the north side. Not sure if that was true or not, but it looked that way from our vantage. Thanks again.
I would be interested in knowing if anybody has had any experience with SPOT and a successful rescue claim.  Thanks to all of you for your wishes and providing me with the closest thing to climbing I'll get for awhile.
Looks like a great tour.
Thanks for a great trip Stewart and Rob.
We took bivvy bags instead of a tent and it was incredible watching the stars during the night  while lying in my bivvy listening to music on my ipod.
At one point a lenticular had formed directly overhead and was being illuminated by the crescent moon and was glowing and I thought the mothership had finally come to take me back to my home planet. ;D

During the ascent, just after dawn, the whole mountain was illuminated in deep p...
Thanks for sharing your experience.
pretty dang cool ... awesome photos .... a totally wow trip!!!
Good luck Dale in your recovery.

thanks to you and Steve leading our Silcox gang down the WR drainage to Hwy35 in May of 2008,

Ron, I thought of you, your friends, my friends and many previous celebrations in the parking lot that day.  A few weeks before we had one of those "best ever days".  What a difference.  Here is that happier day.
Joe, Where's the photos  ???
Glad to hear all's ended fairly well. Best of luck for a speedy recovery.! Hard to believe that the SPOT rescue insurance would require that they arrange the rescue/ require that the beacon be turned on (except for verification that you had it along at all).

It's the little things and the lucky things ...
Nice work guys. Looks like an incredible trip on many levels. Especially liked that 1/3 of the trip was the drive home... glad you made it safely up AND back on all counts! :)
Good work guys.  We were up on Muir and the Paradise Glacier on Saturday and thought about you when the wind came up in the afternoon.
I'm glad the line down to the Morrision Creek campground worked out for you  ;)
( I was the guy looking for the chevron on the summit)
Dale,
Know the route well, thanks to you and Steve leading our Silcox gang down the WR drainage to Hwy35 in May of 2008, almost exactly a year prior to you accident. It was kind of you to show us the way.
Heal quickly, bro, that mountain is still waiting to treat you better.
Ron Jarvis
...Well Done!

Any prediction in the crystal ball of when the road will open to Tilly Jane campground/turnoff?  How does it look???  I've got a trip going off on the 19th??
Thanks for the report. I have been considering a return trip to the Squak, but I haven't lined up any partners yet. The last attempt on this glacier ended when SilasWild and myself were stymied by collapsed snowbridges several years ago.

Nice to see that Don is spending time in the  mountains with his daughter; I appreciate the time that my son spares for me. I've skied on the other side of Baker with Dave; I guess that it is time that we hook up on a glacier, Teleskich...

Wow, thanks for the story and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Wow.  Ditto.  Way to stay collected and calm and take appropriate action.
Nice meeting you two up there!  Here's a few shots - I'll have to upload the rest of you guys on the way down...

Wow, thanks for the story and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I always tell my friends it will be the easy things I do that will get me.
Glad you guys got some good turns in at least!  Good write up Stewie.  We heard from others that the E side was rather firm and the wind was not helping any.  Nice work and way to drag your dad up that beast!
Congratulations Stugie and Brad and Matt, very nice trip on a side of the mountain we rarely see.
Cool. That approach up the creek was a pain in heavy wet snow when I was up there this winter. Next time I will also traverse over. Great link up too. Way to be flexible. I notice skiers tend to be more so than climbers.
Nice trip guys.
Great TR Stewie.

Nice Pete. Thanks to Pete, Gus, and Tony for a great trip. We skied from the summit circa 11:30 and found ripper conditions below around 13.5K. Here are some pics from the trip.

Can't seem to figure out how to post thumbnails from picasa.

a shout out to silaswild for the great reports this past season (Tahoe), and a shout to Zap.  maybe I can hook up with you guys next season

That would be great.  We usually head for Tahoe and The Sierra in late March/April. I'll send you a PM before we head down.
Nice work I hear thats a good route  ;)

Holly, hella nice work!  Great read...a good tr!  Looks like you're ready to drop sick lines again!  Nice work on the RW...she is a beaut!  Glad you guys had a great trip...thanks for the cookies, they were great!

Oh snap

Haha, I heard you had issues with "snapping" boards recently... ;)
Holy sh**, hella nice work!  We were with PeteA in the Finger and saw those tracks and gawked...I was actually in such awe I didn't even snap photos of any tracks.

For those unfamiliar...some of the tracks looked like this - steep slope (maybe pushing 50 degrees) to a mandatory air over crevasse to immediate stop to traverse to keep from falling into the crevasse just below the landing...

Again, mad kudos bro.
Hmmm...any interest in Shasta/Lassen this month? I'm coming back down to Tahoe in a week or so, both of those are on my list (assuming conditions are good).
The forest service is closing Schreiber Meadows access to snowmobiling for the year on Friday, June 5th. FYI.
Thanks again boys

If Don is such a great dad then why is his daughter hooked on snowboarding?!?

Oh snap
Once again congrads on a getting Baker she is a beauty
Nice work
She will always let you know when she's willing to be climbed
8)  Very Well Done Crew.  A rigouous attitude once again saves the day!
Thanks for the TR holly.  Great effort!  It sounds like your recovery is complete.  Better than new?

Congrats to Don for "Father of the Year".  I guess all the time I've spent here at home with my kids this year was a waste.  I should have been skiing.

My read on her description was that the *road* is snow-covered about a mile from the TH, thus the snomos can still access it... perhaps not.

Nice TR!

I expect this is accurate.  Last year the snow melted to the Schreibers Meadow trailhead some time in the first few days of July.  The melt happens fast and there is a perfect time to go each year...
Nice.  I still have really fond memories of the bottom skier's right slope to the Wilson being one helluva fall line.  It really puts a nice sustained finish on the route after the upper traverses.

Mmhhh, I don't think snowmobiles are allowed at this area once the snow has melted.... Guess some people don't care. From Mt.Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest website: "The Mt. Baker National Recreation Area including Schriebers Meadow is open to snowmobiles when snow depth exceeds 24 inches at the trailhead....
Snow begins about a mile from the trailhead. Snowmobiles abound.

nice one!  saw those tracks yesterday after exiting the FF and thought 'i wonder if those are danhelmstadter's cause he was wanting south side of Rainier pics last week'  :)  looked spicey for sure!

and yeah, the Finger has been getting hit hard this season by skiers...i think i counted about ten folks making turns on it Saturday afternoon and then there were probably another ten skiin' it on Sunday.
