How does this rate on the Reverse Joy-O-Meter Mac?   ;)

I'd say it rates a "Most Excellent".

Nice video! I was monitoring the weather up there all day yesterday wanting to go but couldn't because I had to let my epoxied ski "cure."

I'm thinking Johann from Austria is the guy I met on Tuesday who took pictures of me when I skied Unicorn Saddle.

Wish I had been there
Looked like fun! You know, Don, you could probably ski just as fast as Brad if you took 40 pounds out of your pack. ;D
Having only skied it once, I recall it being easy fly paper for the unsuspecting gaper - starts out nearly flat then slowly rolls over more and more until your uphill hand is on the wall of the OhmygawdIcan't believehowsteepthisis.  I thought it was funny, too, as I assumed you to be of usual good cheer in the BC, though you wanted no part of encouraging someone you felt a vibe of unpreparedness from.
Here is a link to some additional pictures from Saturday. Stay tuned for Elk Mountain ONP part II,

Our only goal was to not work, and maximize turns.  Six AM on a Tuesday.  No firm destination, but  the truck was full of gas, gear and IPAs.

I like your style, Rusty   ;)
Nice Trip, Don; Nice viddy.
Well, I for one, think that your ending comments were hilarious!  If you ever get a chance to do that to me, rest assured, I'll enjoy the joke in reverse as I walk back to my car unenlightened.  Be careful up there soloing MW88888.
Boom goes the Dynomite!!!! ;D
cool video, great catch phrase!
Nice photos! Cory and I endured the bushwhack up Pilchuck yesterday (the 17th), but the ski-to-effort ratio was pretty low.  We didn't ski gunsight as we couldn't really see it or much of anything else in the fog.  Squeezed in about 1,000 vertical feet of suncup skiing from below the summit rocks and back to the mellow slopes on the north side, then hiked the summer trail out for a quick escape.  At least we didn't get rained on  ::)

Would love to check that area out sometime as a ski. For those that have been in there, question. Maybe getting there earlier (April/May, or maybe even as early as Beckler gate opens) is better, so that you can glide the lake, and get at least a few scratchy turns near Virgin Lake? Or is snow always too...
Nice work bud -- cool area back there.

Such an awesome area, eh. I can't believe there's a glacier on a mountain like that.

And, it's a glacier that runs north-to-south, facing south into the sun, with there being no glacier on the other, theoretically shadier side of the pass towards Monte Christo town. How weird is that?

Would love to check that area out sometime as a ski. For th...
Thanks for the write up, and also for the sandwich and laundry-soap-candy! I am just about recovered from the hike (I would have guessed six miles at least...)

Can't wait for next time!
If said individual came to my car with a topo map and asked if I just skied yada yada yada....and how was it? - I would have jumped all over him with good will and advice.  He did not, and I have no time for tourists who feel entitled to information.

If you are unhappy with how I handled an uninvited intrusion on my personal space, oh well.  I'm just not that gregarious. (obviously)

You might have been kinder in a similar situation, and good for...
sheispiste,

Anita and I gained the ridge shortly after your group.  We were quite impressed to watch Lara gracefully ski down with Linna strapped to her torso!   ;D  We only saw a few turns before your group faded into the fog.
you just rock kyle .. i love your spirit of adventure .. getting off the beaten track .. nice touch with the ohana and sarvant glaciers -- thx for the awesome ride and pix
Agreed. Why ruin a great day with crappy attitude.
Good to see you again. We met last year at the top of Gunsight. I agree that Pilchuck may be close to done for the season. There's a big hole in the gully on the north side near the waterfall also. Summer trail is the best way up. Bushwacking down wasn't too bad though. Great father/ son trip for us.
It's always enjoyable to see a new area near familiar terrain.  It occurs a lot more as you age.  ;)

Is that the same chute we skied a few years back or a different one?

We skied the large western chute not in the picture and climbed out the right branch of the chute in the far left of the picture.  The central chutes are considerably steeper but with a better(no) fall line.  This picture was taken from the Hurricane Ridge road two years ago on my solo...
Because the Reverse Tired-O-Meter is more than pegged after a long day at work, this will be short, I will post a more complete report with some pictures in the next couple days.
Saturday was great fun. It was good to finally meet Michael and Sidnie. The weather and skiing just added to the fun.
On Tuesday Greg (Stormking) and I went back to ski the Central Chutes. This picture shows our results. We skied the center red line first (this is the same as the black line in Michael's...
You were lucky with the weather. We skied it on Saturday and got pretty much everything except high winds: beautiful sunrise, milk bottle whiteout, thunderstorm (my hair was buzzing!), snow, hail and rain. But the skiing was great still.

That's it for the season! Well at least for me.
Thanks for the great pics!
Three of us were up there the weekend before and got some nice skiing in.  One of my favorite trips.
Get it while you can!
13 miles on trail and 2000 vertical feet of skiing/climbing, tired after a rewarding day.

Last July Snowbell and I calculated our Elk outing as 14-1/2 miles with 1900 vf.  Does the Reverse Joy-O-Meter
rate our trip as more "rewarding"?
Skiing that wild ridge and looking at the ocean is a trip.
Thanks for the write-up. Finding that many people at one location in the Olys is awesome, a big shout out to everyone for enduring the long slog out and back!

David (not sure of his TAY name) and I were both very excited to finally get that chute that stares you in the face from most anywhere in PA and Sequim, but Gary (of the GaryJan duo) certainly took me down a notch when I heard he skied THREE lines down the central chutes on Tuesday, each of which making my line look like the tea...
That is great! Nice to see the little one out.  I love the shot up on the ridge, too.
Nice tour!  ...and you write just fine:)
Skied Silver Peak Basin on June 14. Not much different than previous posts other than some noteworthy company.

Seems Silver Peak is a family sort of place. This is the second time I've skied it with a family and their young skiers.  I last skied it with a former student and his family.. Sunday, I skied it with the youngest TAYer: Linna, who is just a few months old already has a s...
Solid poetry.

It makes one weary (and wary) of text messaging as suitable English/comp form.

6567' has many names but I think the current owners are Brenda and Mike. they certainly have been treating it well.
Nice group shot !
Nice job Michael and gang
Wow, it's getting crowded in the Olys's!
Is that the same chute  we skied a few yesrs back or a different one?
Awsome Amar!!!!!!  Might just get up there this week a give DC a go...VERY COOL!!!!!!!!!
Nice work
Im glad the weather and snow conditions worked out for you.
The clouds really started moving in around 3
I should have posted last week, as it would have saved you the trouble, or at least tempered your expectations.

After reading AJScott's glowing report on CC from the week prior, I went up to Leroy Basin with 2 friends on 6/6 and 6/7, hoping to do the big loop including nf maude/fernow/ 7fj.

Unfortunately, it rained all night on me in the bivy sack, and we woke up to poor visibility and intermittent light rain turning to snow at our 6300 ft camp.  We skinned to the sa...
Big fun. Hope to be skiing with you soon.

concerning the name of peak 6567...
Peakbagger has it listed as "Tahtlum" peak per a submission by Eric Noel.

According to "the Internet", tahtlum is a Chinook word for "ten"

It's not listed in the Beckey guide.

What's up with that?
Regarding the North Face of Maude, your pictures taken in the area two weeks earlier look radically different than what we encountered. From Seven Finger, the NF of Maude looked shot. That being said, rock ribs might be hiding the real line.
Nice work getting out there
You have to love bushwhacking in the dark.
When I was up there two weekends ago the summit was not really skiable.  It was a mess of deep steps, avy runnels and fallen and exposed rocks.  By now I can't imagine it would be worth skiing above the base of the pyramid.
We skied the Squak yesterday from Sherman Peak.  We hiked the trail with intermittent snow to about 4600' and skinned from there.  On the descent we were able to stay west of the prominent north/south ridge and ski down to about 4200’ with limited dirt skiing.  It was really descending on skis rather than skiing, but it was much faster than walking.  By this weekend I expect that route will only get you to about 4400’ because the last 200 was sketchy side slipping down a barely snow covered...
My brother Gordy posted a story about our trip on his blog at greatoutdoors.com:

http://www.greatoutdoors.com/blogs/gordys/20090615/skiing-the-dakobed-traverse-tools-or-toys

The story includes a nice video of skiing Glacier Peak. Enjoy!
Another article on the lost sailor:

http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2009/jun/16/bangor-sailor-kept-wits-about-him-while-lost-on/

Great, thanks very much.
That one's a classic. Nice work.

The reaction of the Fishermen and campers by the TH is always the same too, no matter how long this route has been a 'classic.' Part of the traditional experience I guess. So is hitting Buckeye hot springs on the way out.

So where are the rest of your Eastside TRs? Basin Peak? Mt Tom? C'mon, we need your well crafted TRs to inspire a few more trips to the south.

Ron: We missed you too.  Ally and I will be in your area for two weeks in August.  I might bring my skis :).  Hope to run into you!

That'd be cool.
The Slush Cup might be ready for you about then!! Bring your bathing suits!!
http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/885287/TR_MF7FJ_5_30_2009#Post885287

I bet the NF of Maude had to still be looking good though right?  I barely squeezed my trip in as far as snow pack goes, was able to link up snowfields from about 50 ft below the summit all the way down into the trees.  timing is everything ;) Good on ya for getting up there, maybe next spring!
Spoke to Tom Ingve of the of Denver Wholesale Ski from whom I purchased the skis about the delamination. I guess this is the downside of purchasing over the internet.

Basically he said that I was over skiing the skis, (a big assumption), that he could try to get Atomic to issue an RTA to replace it but don't count on it and that the process will take a very long time and I'll be without my skis. This is especially true as they are are new, but an older model.

So I...

Zap: I wish we knew about the Buckeye or the Travertine hot springs....  Next time we'll stop for sure.

Robyn: You can probably ski it for a few more weeks, but the upper section is starting to show rocks.  There are more good lines in the area if you don't mind a short hike.  The snow was brillantly smooth and silky up high.
