Jason and Kyle - a great trip, trip report, and photos.  Most excellent adventure!
It is good to see you've come to terms with Canada.  Will it last?

Nice pictures.  I used to spend a lot of time in that region, but I'm afraid I only climbed the Skyladder.

Robson and the Icefields are fantastic places.

I cheated and stacked up on Joe nearly breaking his arm because it was obvious that I could not beat him in a fair arm wrestling match.  Sorry Joe

That was not necessary Chris but thank you for setting the record straight.  Really it was our sponsor's fault.  Feeding us screwdrivers just before a long tour when our original agreement required rum and coke? ...

Trip of the year award!

Excellent report Jason.  Your account reads very well and is worthy of such great accomplishment.  Thanks for taking the time to share.  I'll read this at least twice more when I have an opportunity to envision the trials and triumphs.

Very nice work guys  ;)
Wow, it sucks that that can happen to any of us at any time.  Thanks for sharing your experience.  It is an important reminder that just because I never break myself in the mountains doesn't mean that I will never break myself in the mountains.  It sounds like you are relating to the situation well and may you continue to do so.  We'll look forward to a triumphant return TR from you this winter.  (the skiing from now until the snowpack replenishes sucks anyway....
For me the surreal thing was driving in from the eastern side of the state in the dark; waking up there, then climbing and skiing in that green near-swamp was such a contrast to Broken Top/Bend's more desert-like climate.

Awesome trip. Have been contemplating that very same.
How long you figure it took you car to car?

We could have done it a bit faster (no nap, wasted some time descending to get water...) but took us ~15 hours.
Post-mortem:
At five weeks since the accident, I now feel that I've had ample reflection on the events to clarify my thoughts. I'll work from the break itself outward. Unhappily, I have been unable to pin even a small set of causes, let alone a single cause, for the accident. Rockfall aside, I don't believe we made any major single mistakes. The question becomes: How did I set myself up in a position where it was possible for me to bumble and crash? I believe t...

P.S.

For what it is worth....

Highway to the danger-zone is not only awful Music, its Totally unacceptable to blast at 3:00am...That is the antitheses of an alpine start (thanks for ruining that for me, who ever you may be)...

Otherwise conditions are true as stated above...the SW chutes will not be ski-able to the round the mountain trail more than a handful of days say...Monday at the latest..it be warm up there folks.....

Peace.....
I repeated your lines today. By "repeated" I mean I was often right on your tracks because the snow there was faster, less sticky.

The difference was that while you had quite the posse yesterday apparently, I saw no other skiers all day.

I first took a run down into the White River side bowl. It wasn't that good (dirty and sticky) so I aborted less than 700vf in, booted out, and instead decided to copycat your lines. Particularly since they had been taunting...
Thanks guys.

Lowell, yeah it was a long way, but overall went well. It was very exciting to get out that far on skis into the olympics that's for sure. I just wish I had more food to stay longer. Although, I can't imagine getting that kind of weather again, but who knows, I seem to have some luck with me this year...at least when it comes to weather. LOL.  Maybe some other year I'll come up with the motivation to go out there again.

BTW scotsman, I love you...
Great first post,

we were there 24hrs before you and found the simmilar conditions.  The lowere dusty runouts we were calling the "bump buffet/Rodeo' trying to hang in the standing dusty waves/bumps for 8-seconds ;)

Excellent boys. I'm a proud Sponsor although I was a bit concerned watching the pair of you arm wrestle at my house over route selection.  Lucky you won Chris as SnowBell had a heinous crevasse ridden tour planned if you had lost. ;D

Need to get out there. How long will the skiing last you think?

Yeah, judging by the crevasses evident o...
Those pictures are downright awesome!  Nice read too!
Holey moley!
Incredible trip and incredible TR and photos.
Such adventure possible so near to Seattle.
Trip of the year award!

As amazing trip.  Thank you for sharing.
Quite a trip, Jason!

From the map and photos, it looks like your excursion out to the Valhallas and back was a huge effort.

Thanks for sharing your story and photos.
about 4 yrs ago Jeff Spann and I did it as a bike /hike .Hiking from Klapachie. I can see it from my house in Sumner and it just drives me batty. again good job!

That's what I'm talking about ! A long overdue report from that Area.
Thanks guys! I betcha I reread that 3 times.

Should read Ferry,drive, bike,hike, ski

Agreed, long overdue- I had been thinking about skiing that area for the past 2 years. Happy we made it happen. Thanks to Joe for pushing the idea further. I posted a few more pics on pica...
Ive been waiting for this for quite a while and it was well worth the wait.
Your writing is amazing but your photos blow your writing out of the water.
I've always wondered about that area.
Nice work guys  ;)

Amar's post planted a bug in my head and I skied up to the Prow today. It's still possible to skin all the way from Glacier Basin to the Prow and the creek crossing remains easy. Still only the one crevasse at 8,400 feet and it's only an issue if you ascend climbers left.

On the ski down, the top 2,000 feet was great with nice corn on a firm base although some sun cups are starting to develop. The bottom 1700-1800 feet or so were not that great. It was getting mushy by...
Wow, thanks a lot for the update on Adams, many TAYers are happy to hear it is still in good condition.  Hope this is the start of your active posting career, after lurking for so long.  You are an inspiration perhaps for lurkers to come out of the shadows.
Day Five: South Face of Olympus, Hugin and the Valhallas

With morning woke an amazing sight. There was not a cloud in the sky, except for a puff lost in the valleys. My eyes lit like a christmas tree and gear piled into our packs in anticipation of an epic day. Loaded and ready to go, we climbed to the Col we had earlier scouted and prepared for the descent.

What is interesting about the South Face of Olympus is that there are few photos of it and none I was able t...
Robie:

Nice meeting you yesterday - your route was great.

A reminder about the touring archive you mentioned.

Have a great summer - remember to keep the shinny side up on the motorcycle.

Dave
Just got my pics up on my website:
Third Burroughs Ski, June 27, 2009

Dave Coombs and I had a great time. Thanks to all the TAYer's for a remarkable day.
Congrats on getting out.  I hate missing out.
Jodabaker you right and everyone in our group agreed .Open sunrise earlier. Hey we had to use the pit toilets anyway cause the main restrooms were closed. Our tour to 3rd Burroughs roughly 8 mi rt was worth it but woul dhave gone faster and funner if there was more snow. More on snow time, less change back and forth to carrying our skis.
I'm adding another picture from Richard here and a link to his pics.
The picture  shows snow coverage and our two best runs. One off of 3rd...
I would call our trip report "Sunrise, Sunset"
The chutes are almost all done, no Dege,  there is some downclimb and rocks are very prevalent. Lame on you MRNP management!
When will they ever learn?
There would be less possibility of damage with more snow, then the masses get bored and move on as it melts out.
I guess that the park is really not for our use and enjoyment after all.

On the other hand, great to see you Robie, nice report and all the ot...
Fine choice! I'd bet the Kumquat's ripe, for those with a taste for the salacious steeps.
Awesome trip and mountaineering performance by Nick!  When I heard your objective in the parking lot, I was tempted to follow you to try out a new area for me!  Luckily I was too lazy and chose the old familiar tour.  Hope Nick is motivated for more backcountry skiing as his busy schedule permits.
Good to meet you Matt. Impressive skiing with the big pack. Put another face with a name yesterday:  Alan (BigSnow) and his 12yr old son Nick, who was carrying fat skis with Fritschis!  Nice work Nick, hope to see you out there again when your hoop and baseball schedule allows it.
nice to see that you and Canada are getting along Sky
Photos forthcoming. I am not home yet to download. Still enjoying drooling over all of the (likely) untouched lines in every direction. Even new snow above 4000 today...
Nice work!  We were up there that day.  I think you two were climbing up the final pitch just as we dropped from the summit.

Perfection, though the wind at the top was pretty amazing.
I was up there on Thursday 6/25.  'Twas a beautiful day with some morning clouds that cleared just in time for our down ski.  The snow was nicely firm for the first 2k of vert.  There were dozens of hikers and maybe 6 skiers including the two of us.  I was going to post a report, but it would be redundant and your photos are better.

Thanks for the report, yes there are a number of us up here in Pugetopolis who are thinking of escaping our return to normal off and on rainy weather to visit the sunny south, 545 mile drive to Brewer Ck trailhead, at least gas is not back to $4/gallon yet.

Do it! I did. Summited 6/18. Drove down from Bellingham WA then to Tahoe for some climbing. ended up being...

Hitting the Rockies classics. That North Face of Robson needs to get skied again.
OK Greg, where's the photos ?  ???
- Stugie, just a regular 32 inch (Powell) with old school size wheels

I took a couple short skateboard laps at 8,000 ft, cuz they repaved the park road last fall.  real smooth turns !

Longboard?  Nice, smooth repave are always incredibly welcome turns!
Right on, nice pics!  Looked like a helluva good day!
Nice report Amar!  Do you think the Interglacier would be decent in 2-3 weeks, or would Fryingpan area be better?  I'm planning on trying the Russell and Flett mid July, but if I have any time left I'd like to see the another aspect of the mountain.  Thanks,

Matt
Thanks Marcus.  Personally, my meter spikes when I hit the trail. So the low drive time should give it a higher percentage.

Not sure what the little guy was Stu. I was a few hundred feet up, and my eyes are crap. He was gone by the time I got back, and no tracks. It could have been a shadow person.
