Thanks!

This was two seprate day trips and lucky did not return for the second day.  The lines off of the summit are probably a little too steep for him anyways.
Nice pic of glacier. The views in the mts have been off the hook the past couple of days. Good to see you getting out  -J
Nice job, Scott!  Way to Get Down with Doggie.
Beautiful day to be above treeline, eh? Nice work earnin' em, I opted for lift served again. Glad to see your bro is still rockin the gold aviators.
It was nice to ski something new in such a familiar area. This chute, which is at the headwaters of Warm Cr., I had never skied before...

We might have seen you out there, Greg.  I was the guy on Atomics/Dynafits and I was touring with a gal on a splitboard.

Beautiful day out there, with excellent snow below the ridgelines.  Up higher, there was variable, wind effected snow.  I knocked a small (3 foot wide, 6 inches deep) slab loose on a cross-loaded rib on the slope beneath the col that is east of Threeway, so watch for slabbage near the ridge tops.
Way to use the stability and easy travel conditions!

I was gonna call you guys but ended up having to do an errand in town first thing in the AM, so decided to head up elsewhere in the area with my dog. He usually doesn't come skiing due to some mild hip issues, but I took the gamble that he'd have easy travel on top of the crust and indeed he did (else I'd have had to bail from the outing). We found similar conditions ranging from 1-5" of new on the crust. I had...
Rode half of herman today, pretty damn stoked!!! just hope we get some snow soon!
Sounds like a fine trip.  It's good someone is getting the wild goods of CAN.
Skierlyles, that first photo you posted is of Yak Peak, home to some long rock routes.
Nice work, Carl.
Foss Peak's a good day's work from Narada with dark coming at 4:30.
Stunning photos, too.
I love that tour.
I toured into Silver Basin today and made a few laps, and it was surprisingly soft.  I couldn't convince any of the guys I tried to bring along that it would be any good, and it ended up being even better than I thought.  Lots of tracks still to be had even in Silver Basin.
Sorry. Gotta add some shots of the other guys!
Nice! This report get my jones on. And so close to home. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful views and dang fine skiing! Destination was the snowy peak directly above lead guy's red beanie.

Technical crux of both ascent & descent

Had an amazing time out at Roger's Pass and enjoyed skiing the new Revelstoke ski area as well. Ski area is still in it's infancy but has alot of potential to be a great area. Soon enough they will get those kinks ironed out, and the skiing will only get better as they open up more terrain and add more lifts. Cycling the goods usually took two chair rides and lots of groomer bombing before riding back up (legs trashed of course).

Backcountry was epic- I highly recommend gett...
The 4" of new snow was sloughing, but nothing else moved. Looked like the rain had penetrated pretty far down and layers were bonding well.
Nice!  Way to get the goods  :D
LUCKY!!!!! Every day off is a good day off!
Hope you were thinking of me sitting at my desk...

No, but if you're lucky, the brain gradually takes over.

LMAO!!  Well said.  Shit on an environmentalist who wants to look out for an ecosystem, but god forbid a single slackcountry skier at Hyak gets hurt.  The local slednecks probably just don't want to f-up their machines when going up to poach Silver next spring, or pop the tire of the geni...

Way to get it fellas.

We'll second Snowbell's comment. Looks like you guys hit the weather window perfectly.

Wish it would have worked out to meet up, but we ended up having 3 good days inbounds at the resort.

Gary and Jan
Nice work -- that chute just stares at you from the highway.  Did you dig any pits on the way, or get anything to move with ski cuts?  I'm curious if all this rain has crushed down the buried surface hoar.
Beautiful! Looks like Chris is having an okay time in the first pic  ;)
hmmm...looks fun. I've never headed west of timberline. usually go east into white river. But this looks much more fun and a little more sheltered.  Is this close to Zig Zag cliffs? I'm interested in heading over there now. The pics look good!
Nice shots!  I was there about 5 years ago and loved it.  Everyone (well only those hardy enough to make the drive) should ski up there.

do they take away your balls if you live in the 206 area code to long?

No, but if you're lucky, the brain gradually takes over.
Thanks Marcus...  and friend.
Got this from a friend up there this morning:

-Dust on crust is back.
-We got an inch or so of lite snow as the temps dropped through the day on Monday.  Not bonding to crust
-I suspect there was some freezing rain above 4000ft on Sunday night.  Found a clear frozen layer on top and some tree ice
-A quick pit near the top of Hyak Monday found 120cm of snow.  The entire pack was wet to moist, top to bottom.
-The most recent snow fall from last week (...
Thanks for taking care of that. What was the snow like? Inch or two on rainsoaked layer, or crusty up there?
I spoke with someone on the east coast just today. It's still there, it didn't fall off. You want "balls", go there.
Otherwise here in the PNW try to enjoy a fairer and more respectful attitude. As you can see; solutions can be found without destruction.
Looks like fun - thanks for the report.  I'm hoping to come up around the 1st of the year from the southern end of the valley and find some similar conditions!
Problem solved ! Thanks Trevor . I thought that for a minute we would have to admit to "not having any balls". turns out the whole thing was solved in a manly way.

Chris, Seattle was a lot different when I got here Shipyards, foundrys, Washington Iron works , logging, fishing and lots of balls.

In this instance we had people who were willing to do something .
Discussion and then prudent action.
Way to get it fellas.

I am coming to resent my wife and children terribly as I think of the skiing I am missing out on with you guys.  I might as well have a job.

Thanks for sending along the pics Jay.  Excellent as always.
Ok Joe, when we going!! It's only 9 hrs away.
Chirs and Jay..... Glad youre getting some. Ain't it  a sweet set up. Best Great Western Hotel EVARRR!
Thanks Trevor, that's great.  I can see how the stakes and silt fencing could be important to the property owners below -- glad to see that the slope will be safer for skiers with the fence marked.
Hi All,

I went up the hill today with the intent to remove the metal stakes.  Due to frozen ground and some extra pressure from snow creep, they are not easy to remove.  We also intend to use them (and the attached silt fences) to help maintain any sediment that may move during the spring melt.

So I flagged the tops of all of them with orange flagging.  In addition, there will be bamboo poles installed adjacent to each stake within the next couple days.

There a...

Frankly , yes.

Perhaps the folks at the ski area could come up with some nice big orange danger signs or the like.

When I was up there Thanksgiving weekend there was a staff person there that warned me about them, I'd seen Marcus' post too and was ready for them and they did not dissappoint.  But do they really need to flag them?  After all, according to them th...
These fences are very short and the only purpose was that they made some government evrimentalist feel good,  do they take away your balls if you live in the 206 area code to long?

I like the idea of flagging them with bamboo poles and if no one will help that is what I am going to do.

I am really thinking someone could get hurt

I would still cut the fence down with peoples help, I will bring a metal 14" gas powered cut off saw
Skied Hyak yesterday.  My two cents: I would think that the poles and associated silt fences are there for erosion control which will matter most when the snow melts.  I imagine the ski resort and the homeowners down the hill who were already affected by last years land slide won't be happy if someone rips them out.  I'd hate to see the Hyak get closed to downhillers (as opposed to cross-country types) over something like this.  Also, the erosion control measures ma...
Hey!  I thought I saw your car in the Yodelin lot, but it turned out to be a couple of other splitboarders.  I figured you'd be one of the ones who was dumb enough to be out there :)

We had only a little whoomphing, but the 15" layer moved easily and could be a real problem once it firms up, if that crust doesn't decompose a bit.

Spent yesterday patrolling for the Lakeside Ski Club race at Cabin Creek.  Man, those skate skiers cover a lot of gr...
"Skis beautifully, carves well for such a wide ski, front end felt quiet and comfortable."  Kontour = Manaslu on steroids!!

Wow, it's great to see you upholding the UNR mechanical engineering tradition of ski innovation, following in the footsteps of Hub Zemke: http://www.theskijournal.com/issue/2.3/feature/Hexcel

Did Drew sign a release for the photo?  If not, maybe he can sue and supplement his fat paycheck as a "professeur du ski" at the Summit.<...
Hey Marcus, we just MIST you! Was down the road a bit at a more likely named 'rainy' pass.

Nice pit profile. Our soggy day sounds simular except we experianced a lot of whoomphing while traveling. Found the same TG, with a good layer of facets under the crust. 4'000 ish, west facing.

That's a sweet looking ski and a ridiculously cute dog, Kam.
Curious if they are serving some purpose such as erosion control and they wouldn't want folks to take them out?
Sorry, a few corrections, we were on Klahhane Ridge and the last run out was Bowling Alley.
Stupid enough to go ski there in the rain today (Dec. 20th).  Slight rain crust all the way to the top.  Most of the steeper old growth sections had crusty tree bomb debris with some patches of more skiable wet snow in-between.  Light rain early in the day gave way to heavier rain by early afternoon as we departed, thoroughly drenched.  No pictures.  Ready for more snow...
Erm, you might check with the owners of the posts (the ski area, I presume) before you remove the posts from the property they lease. The ski area may even help you remove them, as it's a liability issue for them (I bet people sled up there too....).

Good luck! :)
