Nice report, Ally,
Sounded like a fun trip. Squeak looks like a cool critter.
We miss you guys.
Fun to ski a line for Beaker and Steve Clarke.
what a crappy year at Whistler eh?
Too chicken for that,I doubt there could be a bigger rush.
What time were your photos taken?

I was the alecapone on Heather and it was fairly stable until 12-1PM when it started to get loaded up with the new snow.  Also, the wind was very mellow at appx 5mph so the wind loading wasn't as severe.
No base jumping! Looks like some spectacular views. Happy New Year to the Traslin bros.
The slides were all skier triggered, up to 30 yards away--fairly sensitive.  They all broke on at the classic location on convex surfaces.  Visibility was very poor due to wind and snow.  I didn't see any naturals.
Thanks for the report. Those pictures are alarming. The slides all appear to be natural releases. I hate to see what the bigger slopes were doing.
Thanks for the informative report and photos!  Glad you got your first post in before the end of the year, keep 'em coming please. :)
Looks like a nice area. How long would it take to ski tour in there.
We did consider heading down towards lake Janus but it was more dense trees and I was concerned that the traverse through the trees would take a while. Skinning up, we didn't find the snow to be any better in the trees. I suspect the hard surface at the top of Jove had something to do with the recent temperature inversion. That said, the snow coming down from Union Peak to the Union-Jove saddle was kinda nice -- that's a NE aspect. It's a shame we couldn't do any real turns t...

He also does very well adhering to the '1 at a time' avi protocol.

yeah i'm guessing he's always first
I just got back from my search mission. I tried to look for spots that the camera was likely to have come out of its pouch. No joy to report and, in fact, the skiing wasn't even joyful. The falling snow made visibility difficult, but what was worse, was the flat light. Suffering from a head cold and a poor night's sleep, my body began to have serious vertigo issues, so I could not spend the time that I wanted searching the spot where I had attempted to put away the camera. I believe tha...
Y'all going to be around this tomorrow or Saturday?  I'd love to head out around this area.
Glad you had a safe trip, it sounds like tough conditions!  It's great they've started up the avy reports this year, much needed.

I'm heading down at the end of March, hopefully they'll get some snow this year...
ooops, I was trying to orgaise my album a little! about 50 or so photos are here...

I am pretty fortunate. The only time we have to use a leash is when 'the man' says so. I have two huskies and they both work very well off leash. They just want to be wherever I am. Here is Lucky waiting for me to assess a slope. He also does very well adhering to the '1 at a time' avi protocol.
Nice...Did it seem like NW facing conditions might have been the better? I was wondering how the runs might have been going down to Lake Janice.

Kinda curious how you ended up with that third photo... It seems like you are heading off  to the east towards labarynth or something?
great pics.  How do you trust your husky off a leash?  Mine loves to run run run, even when hes tired.
Good times, thanks again for letting me ski with you guys.. Nice photos.. see you guys on the next one..
Good ones, thanks Don!
A little photographic evidence of the day's doings.

Looks like some nice snow gentlemen...at least nicer than what we saw on Rainier. ;)

I though we could hit Mcbeth, but those slots look pretty big.

... maybe Ron and company knew something we didn't. We sure found lots of sastrugi, windboard, crust, and some windblown powder. Good character building day. I really need to tune my skis.

Not sure we knew any more than the rest of you, Chris. Found the same as you did in the open areas so we stuck to north and west facing glades which seemed to have mostly...
To further latch onto your tr I thought I would add a few more pics of the huge crew we managed to assemble. Could have had many more tayer's than we ended up with... maybe Ron and company knew something we didn't. We sure found lots of sastrugi, windboard, crust, and some windblown powder. Good character building day. I really need to tune my skis.

We went about 3 to 400 yards around the hairpin before heading uphill.  The skinning was very difficult and we expected the same conditions down. Did you try ski crampons?  made life much easier as the conditions changed between the sliding breakable crust and steep hardpack.    Fortunately thats not how it ended up.  It seemed like the inversion and elements ruined the high exposed slopes and the lower slopes have stayed fresh for a while.
Did you guys head straight up from the hairpin? We were up there Sunday and it was not easy skinning or riding. We pulled the plug before getting to the top of Union, but it sounds like you found decent snow.
Thanks for the report Lee!
Doc survived...Just had to clean him up a bit. Hope your having fun Stacy!

I think my wife and I followed your (mostly windblown) track on Sunday.  Lots of variable density snow patches loaded all over the place.  Skiing was pretty good considering, but if you got too comfortable...well this happens:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqdISpmbWSo

Yeah...i did that at least 5 times... 4 of which were on Mazama ridge where there was actually...

Thanks

Nice video.
What's the song? I really liked it.
Roads are good.  Some snow/ice on the last 4 miles but there were cars in the parking lot so they must have been okay.  I have a 2WD Toyota 4runner (I guess it is really a 2runner) and I slid a tiny bit but was fine.  Bring chains in case if you are worried but it was nicely plowed the whole way.  Enjoy.  If you have plans to hit it up, reply back to this post and maybe I'll join you.  Brad

I found similar conditions off Duffy - about boot high powder/facets on top of a somewhat spongy crust - made for surprisingly nice turns. All north facing runs - some received a few hours of sunshine but otherwise in the shadow. Pemberton east didn't seem to be as affected by the inversion. No wind & not a cloud in the sky.
wow, looks like it was an awesome day guys!!  nice looking turns!
what a great day it was up there.  that pic makes squeak look ferocious!  silas, we look forward to skiing with you again too, perhaps sometime this spring...  ;)
Did Doc survive the weekend? or was it Dic?
Oh man....i"m jellass....hasn't been fresh snow over here since February! Hope to be back in time for the harvesting of the fresh pow. Enjoy Walmart!

What are the roads like going up to Marble right now?
I'm happy for you but crying inside!
Very Nice.
Thanks Mike, I needed another reason to not bother with waxing. We'll send Sean back to you soon. Unfortunately I couldn't make it out for a second tour with him, work, etc. No pix?
