Inverted means inverted. Aha, I get it. Not too quick on that one. Just knew that it didn't look right.

Is the Wilson Glacier really that dirty!? I would not have guessed, given the winter/summer/weather.
I inverted white/black to make the skier's tracks stand out. Success Cleaver looks fairly normal because it's so stratified and still well-covered with snow.
Here's the positive view of the same contrast-enhanced image. The telemarker pho...
Wow, that last picture is spectacular. I hope you don't mind me appropriating it for my desktop until I get a good "first snow of the season" shot.
Charlie, I can't understand your first photo. Is the Wilson Glacier really that dirty!? I would not have guessed, given the winter/summer/weather.
Thanks! The key to the last one was carrying a spare and fully charged camera battery in the first aid kit.
Great TR guys, thanks. Interesting find in the snowboard -- it appears to be "pre-internet", at least in as much as Google comes up blank for her story. I wonder if someone here will know.
Beautiful day....

Very nice report, as usual, with great photography. ;)
Sorry I missed you, Silas - someone told me about a guy who had just skied the Paradise side as I was skinning up. The thin border of new snow at far skier's left from the shelter at Muir also skied very well.

Nice photo of the Paradise glacier. Are you carrying a camera these days or has your Iphone camera been enhanced ? ;)
these are iphone photos, as was the teletips homepage with Kenji at Muir.

Thanks for the report! Love this area. The colour of the lakes up there is amazing.

Quite a difference from last year.
No kidding.
Last year ==

You must have been the snowborder hooting and hollering on your way down.
Sounded and looked great!
We saw you as we were crossing over to the Paradise where we also found smooth fast snow :)

Welcome to the fold! Nice pix. Way to snag an excellent day just before month's end...
That really is a remarkable picture.
Thanks for the report. October's coming quickly, and Hood's likely where I'll be heading.....
Great capture! Looking to head that'a way soon...
Can't get that picture out of my mind.

Which way did you exit?
Went back down the trail this time. Grouse is more or less melted out; definitely not worth the bushwack anymore.

Only mine, YMMV. ;)
Congratulations Alecapone. I feeling motivated by your report.
I think Im going to start my new streak real soon.
I'll take my cues from you, since I last skied in July
excellant!!!

Okay, we'll make it official. New ski season has started ;)
Great to hear. I've also climbed a similar route in early September many years back. Keep that streak alive!

Met alot of nice TAY'ers, It's pretty nice when they go down the trail in front of you and fend off all the people asking if we actually ski'd :)
You're welcome. ;D Me and the other guy you two where talking to at Pebble Creek checked off every box discussed: "did you ski?" "where did you ski?" "is there skiing...
I was perfectly fine with drinking my way through the weekend until I read this.

Lots of running shoes, gym shorts and loafers on the snow - as well as the straw hats and dresses.
Great day to be out there though.
I also spotted the same just hitting the snow...

Great day out! Good to see some old friends and meet a few new ones too. Always somebody from TAY to bump into up on the snowfield. Good to hear you holler Silas, too bad we missed you in the lot.

Peter and I skied down at about 2:00 after a really great PBJ on the bench at Muir. Peter promised smooth snow for this trip so I opted for my tele skis which I haven't been on for a long, long time. It was a good call though since the skiing was really nice - almost creamy. I would agree that the new stuff lower down did get sticky but the glacier wax with a pretty aggressive profile was the right call - skis were pretty fast top to bottom.

I had a great time climbing up, yakking with all kinds of people. It got windy up high. Lent a shell, stocking caps and poly gloves to a young German Baptist couple, the girl hiking all the way up in her long cotton dress, bonnet and tennis shoes. They left them at the ranger station for me but some NPS employee thought she knew the owner and took them before I got there. Any ideas on who to contact to get them back? Nice Brian,
Sounds like I should have headed north from the Hood Canal Bridge instead of south yesterday morning. Heliotrope is a beautiful area and a fun ski.
I can't complain though, had a fun day climbing and skiing the Muir snowfield. Like you describe, it was windy, there was lots of company and some good skiing. What more can you ask for?
Gary

Much better than expected day up there. White snow was findable almost the whole way above Pebble, and the old stuff was pretty smooth down low. I started down at about 2:30, and by the time I got down to 8,300 feet or so, the new snow was a little sticky, but still fun. Windy, but not bad. Great day.
I will second that Andy. I was about an hour ahead of you skiing...

So, if you only ski uphill, do you get a total of negative v.f. and still count it for a month?
Using that logic, wouldn't all our backcountry days result in total v.f. of zero? ???

Things had locked up pretty well by the time I headed down from anvil rock around 3:30, making for loud and in the clouds turns. The bottom 1,200' or so was soft enough to carve, and the bottom 800' was below the clouds. Probably could have found better turns if I wasn't trying to stay so close to rocks or the boot pack. Oh well. Goodbye, summer skiing. Here's to fall and winter. Cold and nasty till spring suits me just fine.
