Also found some good snow at Centrangeles today...
Brenda - lookin' good! Have you been on TTips yet?  8)
Nice ! See you soon as good snow is happening all over !
did you approach via Hyak and cross country trails?  I tried this tour last year and it was quite miserable.
There were a few rocks, but they were quite friendly. Quite a few new snow friends today. The snow was great. Thanks all for a great time. Best day of my season so far.

First picture summarizes things pretty well.
@ Acarey - backcountry, back country, BC it's all the same to me :)  I posted at 230am after skiing all day, spellling/grammar errors are forgiven in those cases ;)

@ Rusty Knees -  Nicely done.  We considered the Tatoosh, but based on the NWAC forecast we wanted to stick to skiing a Southern aspect in the safety of the glades.  Seeing how stable the snowpack was, the slightly more open terrain in the Tatoosh I am sure was pretty wild!  We also skie...
Most of us would never admit to faceplants, butt-shots or other wipeouts.  I especially liked your full on now angel at the end.

A posse of us (7) killed it in the Tatoosh yesterday.  Lessons learned:
- When the snow is good, finishing at dark is a good policy.
- Hitting rocks just as you launch off a 15 footer changes your trajectory.  Or at least your landing. Significantly.
- Another foot or three would be a good thing.
- When the light improv...

Are you kidding? I skied that day from the main parking lot at Alpental Resort (the furthest access rd is still closed), up to Source Lake and the bench at 4500' below Chair Peak's ridge. There are rocks everywhere and the resort was still closed with brush alder showing on all runs. Get it right.

No need to be a hater. Gun Mount is at but about 5K and a...
Snowolf - I thought I would chime in about a flat light/vertigo experience. One time in Canada we were in white out/flat light and I fell over from vertigo on about a 20 degree slope, but thought I was still moving and yelled avalanche and started flapping my arms in the snow.  I think my friends thought I had lost what little sanity I possessed.  ???
I walked by just as the security folks got your car open, cool. Coming back from Chair Peak Basin ("CPB"???) with my golden lab Lucy. We followed the skin/snowshoe track out to Source and then up to the top of the Apron. Lucy started to struggle with the unconsolidated snow there so it was time to turn around.

Experienced the same conditions; pretty low snow, lots of rollers and some decent holes (landed in a four foot one 2/3 the way down). Had to too go even slower and mor...
Great video; we were out there too but decided to go in the backcountry ;)
Nice Viddy, Chris.
Thanks for posting.
Looked pretty sweet!

aside from 4 letter words, anyone have a good slang for these types?  totally trashed the skin track.

Homo Postholus, the missing link.
Groms. Probably trying to build a kicker.
Just to add to the Alpental reports... friends had skied Lower I below the cliffs on the 20th and reported deep blower conditions (mixed with rock and foliage.) I was skeptical but went up there Sunday the 21st and I used the skin track from the party who went up upper Nash on the 20th and posted a TR. It was hard to follow as there was new snow but it was still very helpful.  Broke my own rule “don’t tour past good snow” by leaving Nash and touring out to Piss Pass--getting there from Nash...

Booting in the skin track?????.... I usually call them morons!
Scenery up there so varied and impressive , glad you got out.
We missed you today... we had to set our own skintrack. :(

Made it to gun mount, and The snow was cracking 12" long and 12" deep from the tip of my ski as I skinned.  One the way down was really good powder skiing didn't hit any rocks or sticks.

nice.  didnt know you guys were at silver fir today.  i arrived around 1130.

check these dudes out - booting up the Outback run on silver fir.  talk about devoted... the snow there isn't that great.

Great to meet fun folk! Heading higher tomorrow, methinks. The morning light was sublime.
Nice to see you Silas.  Even Central was decent: deep enough, sun breaks on nice powder in November one hour from home, no complaining.  I'd probably call most of the main runs at Central skied out now.  A few pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/koelle/
Aint no-one waxin anymore?  Sheeit.
Good timing and good skiing, nice job getting out Jeff!
You're right Marcus, I was skijoring my "B" team in that photo.  They are more gentle pullers so I can safely go with three of them.  The "A" team are two stronger and faster dogs, resulting in a wilder ride.  I usually take the "A" team out first to break trail and then have a more mellow ride with these three.
Awesome David, thanks for sharing the pics.  I love the idea of a self-employed dog.  Your own seem to be working for "the man" -- I assume that's a skijoring setup?

The WSDOT report early this AM said something about freezing rain at Snoqualmie -- sounds like that didn't actually happen ?
There were no signs of freezing rain at the pass... probably DOT was talking about exit 47 to about a 1/2 mile before exit 51...  there was supposedly freezing rain there "west of the summit" last night.
Great vid and nice editing. The falls were cool :>)
:) Everybody loves to see somebody wipe out in powder.  At least I do, makes me feel better about my own spills ;)

I skied Central for the first time today, while on a boot-try-on expedition.  Nice skin track up Triple 60, and good cut-up heavy pow there and on Parachute.  Snoqualmie sure is nice when it's cold.
Did another day at Central today (11/26).  masses of people farming triple 60 and parachute.  Consolidated powder with about 4-6 inches new from last night on top.

Again, arcticcat2, not okay here.  Post removed.
Not sure what the problem is arcticcat2, but that's not really okay here.  Post removed.
Good to hear some reports from the Mt. Hood area.  I was at Ski Bowl Wednesday.  Decent coverage in the bowl and excellent quality snow.  Daw 5 other guys outh there the whole day.

I've done a little skiing around zigzag canyon.  There are some awesome lines on some of those canyon walls if only they didn;t get hammered by the wind.  Let me know if you ever need a partner.  I'd like to get to know that area a bit better.
Good to see the mountain with so much snow.
Just a small point..... "friends" edit out other" friends" falls before going public. ;) ;D
Nice.  Lived just off Greenlake, on 77th,  back in college ('70-'75).  Often took the detour through Ravenna from the U - What a great place and memories.  Would pick up an Eskimo Pie on the warm days from the little store near the foot of the bridge.  Used to be a rope swing under that bridge - big one...  don't suppose it's still around..  dg
Nice, Susan!  I hit the Cowen Park Headwall down into Ravenna first thing Monday morning, getting in about 1-1/2 turns.  Let's hope for more in-city skiing with La Nina.
Great thread on snow quality. I skied Ski Acres on Tuesday with my son in the morning and it was as light and dry as I think we ever get in the PNW. Yet I could still control my speed through snow resistance. I concur that our snow tends to consolidate quickly even with persistent cool temps, as we experienced for a few days this week.

I caught one of those Utah days that everyone talks about two years ago on a business trip. Sunny day with 2 feet of new that had fallen 2 days earlier...
Welcome to TAY and the joys and challenges of backcountry skiing.

My daughter is 2 years old and she has been skiing in the backpack since she was 6 weeks

I recommend the baby bejorn for under 18 pounds and The dueter backpack for 18+ pounds
She has probably gone 50-70 days in a backpack
Trips include mission ridge to bluett pass, Kendall stump, snow lake, hyak, top of alpental, 2,000' on hood

Thanks Garth.  But forget about Silas, willya?  Give me an expense account and I'm gone.

How old and how heavy is your daughter?

IF he's the same "articcat" I know his daughter is 47.
Nothing good could come from my trying to guess her weight.

nice video!

Strange dense 20 degree non hero snow today.  The backside is looking prime, wish we had time to hit it.

Well, that confirms it for me.  Central and West on any given day will have drier conditions, perhaps as a function of their higher base altitude, in my opinion.  It was very nice skiing both West and Central, one lap each, after being available to teach a...
