Nice Mack!
What time where you climbing X2 diamond? Seen three characters up there while driving past about noon+.
We were on there about noon, but we weren't the only ones. Didn't see too many other skiers but there were lots of tracks. If you're sure the three were truly "characters" then it musta been us!
Now Jim, please tell me you haven't been lurking to catch me on the same page as Mr. Scotsman - again. ;D You should know that I don't carry his water, nor he, mine.. Nevertheless, your point is duly noted. My reference was a bit tongue-in-cheek (with Seinfeld in mind), yet it remains true that etiquette is sometimes hard to find. I see the matter not so much as farming snow, but as yielding space. I prefer to cut my own uptrack, but I'll use another if it resu...

So that was where it was going off this weekend ! Great vid and a great call on your part(s). I lost count of different parkas, was there a good turnout? You nailed it, keep that mojo goin.
Nice - thanks for sharing. I had fun visiting friends in Coeur D'Alene for the long weekend, but knew I was missing out on some good fun...
I don't live in Seattle. I don't understand the horn comment, but I use my car horn when it will help with safety as well as every now and then to let some a-hole know they pulled a f-d up manouver, fwiw. I do wish more people around here would use turn signals...

Sure, I'm OK with stating the obvious when it calls out bullying or trolling. Maybe that makes me lame or something, and I'm OK with that.
Sometimes trolling or presenting another view promotes discussion but you passive /aggressive types wouldn't understand.
Don't honk your horn Jim! That's the Seattle way.
Excellent conditions.
Here's the WSDOT update from a ski buddy. The snowshoe affected depth statement is unique. ;)
"Hi all,
We were able to keep the North Cascades Highway open through the Thanksgiving weekend, despite one slide that closed a lane for a couple hours until our crew could safely clear it.
HOWEVER, we're closing it at 4 p.m. this afternoon and will look at it after the storm to see if we can reopen. We've got a...

I guess my thoughts( which admittedly I do not always follow as I am an admitted hypocrite) is that its' OK to use another person's skin track out to a certain area but in doing so you should have the decency to extend the skin track past where they decided to ski and ski another slope. To follow their skin track and then ski the same slope is IMHO not correct etiquette.
If that...

I like Mazama Ridge area as much as the next guy ~ which is, of course, part of the problem, but some would argue that it isn't bc ~ it simply isn't inbounds..

That is exactly what I'm talking about. Though in a slightly higher-res form.

Sounds like a good day out, not as fun as if I had been there I'm sure. ;)

We skied silver basin from the lift-served (lazy) side. The traverse out involved lots of scraping rock and cursing, but the skiing definitely did not suck.

Speaking of not knowing the area... (I've just started exploring) there is a nice crystal backcountry map in the ski patrol office. I tried locating it online, anyone know where I can find it? I tried google searches and only found the description of Avalanche basin.

author=sukiakiumo link=topic=18201.msg76916#msg76916 date=1291072097]You're right, Silver Basin is directly North of your lines. But you skied down a different drainage, so your TR Subject could more appropriately be "Crystal Basin\Lakes"
I thought the basin immediately North of those lines on that map was silver basin. Or am I completely out of it? Sorry for any confusion.

we recently took up bc skiing for the solitude but are sadly discovering that you really have to search for it these days
Agreed. Seems like these days if you can afford the AT setup then you automatically know how to use it..? Spot is blown for sure, used to have many days there alone when everyone was over on Bundys or Golden Gate. All good things end, at least on weekends. I feel like people would rather stand in a group waiting for the ambitious guy to pick a line and a establish a track then to actually make their own. Its easier that way. Lets go skiing soon Scotsman, we probably have a lot to complain about...

Are you kidding? I skied that day from the main parking lot at Alpental Resort (the furthest access rd is still closed), up to Source Lake and the bench at 4500' below Chair Peak's ridge. There are rocks everywhere and the resort was still closed with brush alder showing on all runs. Get it right.
Sounds like someone is a little bitter. Seriously.....

Not much to add that hasn't already been said. The snow was light and super forgiving. Anyone who didn't get around to shaking out the early-season legs this weekend did themselves a serious disservice.
The early departers were sorely missed on the last backside run. Thanks again for the introduction to the area, and I hope you see you folks around this year.

You'll all be bitching and moaning when REX is on wind hold and all of us who bought gondola upgrades with our season passes are riding up in comfort, getting freshies down frontside and lapping the goodness while you misers are meadow skipping down Queens run!
