Looks like a beauty, thanx for the write up Ryan.
Great TR and images. The ability to ski to Telluride was a nice touch. I heard from Sky about skiing the San Joaquin Couloir but didn't realize you had a nice day at Wolf Creek Pass. Most springs we meet relatives in Pagosa Springs and ski with our east coast grandkids at Wolf Creek Pass. The 2000 up and 4000 down with a car shuttle is a bonus. Reminds me a bit of Whitewater before they installed the new lift.

That's a crazy couloir, the first photo makes it look near vertical
That is exactly what I have thought every time I have seen it. The photo of Sky with cooley behind makes it look a bit more ski able. I have skied T-ride three of the last five years and not wanted anything to do with that line. Maybe next time I will have to consider it.
Talk about a aesthetic line. The mountains have always been the place where I have gone to collect myself and its good to see that you have such a strong network of friends helping you do the same.
Thanks for the awesome story Ryan. Looks like an awesome day you guys had.
That's a crazy couloir, the first photo makes it look near vertical -- someone should straightline it! (Drew?)
So what happened to Skier 505 after he showed you his bindings? Did you leave him behind? And who's this "Sky" person that suddenly showed up on the summit, went first, and tried to snake your line? He looks like a guy from Canada that I know ... sings like him too ???
Pretty lucky that Sam's binding broke when it did and not a few turns...

Nice ski. That bivalve looks even better up close than it did across the valley. ;)
Absolutely sick. I'm going to go throw up now. ;)
That mountain looks fully of gnarly lines..
Hence our 5:30 meet time in Issaquah to beat the hoards! At least the apron had good snow for all to enjoy though and I'm glad we didn't shoot for the crooked given others findings.
Nice work guys! Wish I could have made it.
I will have to check that route out - there's more adventure in our backyard than you'd think sometimes.

Ryan, just awesome on many levels, man :)
Right on!

Nice picture of the Oyster Couloir--I was wondering if it had a name. I saw that Friday when we did a similar trip up Roosevelt and ticked the Oyster off today (TR coming).
Wow, I'll be sure to never hit up the Slot Couloir on a Saturday! Was there on Wednesday with two tracks from the day before filled with blown in with new snow. Broke trail out of the valley upon exit as well.
I'm glad so many can enjoy this sweet spot though

Nice one, FM. Was that with you, hedonaut? I remember starting up that line with somebody and bailing due to snow conditions.
Really cool report Forest!
Gotta love those coolies.

Nice line Forest. Super impressed, too, with your recent trip up Alaska. Lots of respect for trips in less than ideal weather.
The two of us were in the middle of the slot parade and it already looked like this......
Nice work. Like Jason, I have also been back there and climbed/skied the lower bit from Gold Creek, but warming temps dissuaded us from completion. Some free rider should go back there and huck meat.
We used (A) to exit the Kaleetan Lake basin (and which I referred to as the K-R col, which now I realize is a bit of a misnomer--it's more like the Roosevelt-Caroline Col). We entered the Kaleetan Lake basin via a col a little bit north of (B). It looks like there were other options that work for both (A) and (B), with various additional amounts of spice at the top.
Cool TR. Fun to see a different route in a popular area. For clarification, is the feature you refer to as the Kaleetan-Roosevelt col near either of the pins on this map?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Great TR. It's really enjoyable to "find" a new route/terrain near familiar topography. As the days get longer there are more opportunities to "checkout" what's over the next ridgeline.
That is quite a sick line.
Nice work Forrest I look forward to hearing about your upcoming adventures.

Awesome work Forest. That's a fine line back there. I actually climbed up and skied the lower portion of this route once, but turned around cause of terrible snow. That's a yummy looking line...always has looked to be.
Sweet! That's the cherry on top of the Rampart loop sundae that I've been thinking about for a while. Way to go get it.
Hey dudes, I am Cryder referenced in the above, aka "the napper" :D Next time I head out with I am not gonna work two back to back all-nighters (I work in advertising, happens all the time). But on the other hand, I do recommend them to cheer things up mid-route.
That said, i'm new to the Cascade's (from Montana), and wow what a stellar intro to the goods here. Huge thanks to Kyle & Scott for letting me sandbag with them on this trip. Here is a small video edi...

Thanks for the report. I considered going up Saturday but didn't because of visibility concerns.
Honestly Joe, it could of held for 6. Bummed you didn't join. We hit some really nice snow off the flanks of Plummer near the summit, and even Narada skied well despite the unexpected warmer temps. A pit on a 37* slope, NW facing showed easily identifiable layers a foot down, and then three feet down at the faceted crust. On CT 9 we saw signs of a fracture a foot down, but it took a CT 20 to make it go (Q2). We stuck to trees avoiding the rollers and had some r...
Sweet one guys! I'm glad you all got it in good conditions. That's definitely one of the nicest lines around. And congrats on not dying on the drive home.
Sweet Oyvind, good to see you're getting out.
Yes i believe it was bryant col that we were heading up to. we took a different route up through the trees and then skied down a different route. The terrain I was in when i was caught was a mellow slope(20-28 degrees) and then rolled over onto a slope about 40 degrees or so. It was a dumb mistake on my part, but i guess that is a learning experience. We assumed it was safe because we could not get it to slide otherwise and it wouldn't move in the pit. I did not see any other avalanche red...
Thanks for the report, and I'm glad to hear that you are okay.
From the sound of the terrain you described, it sounds like you were heading towards Bryant Col. Is that correct? Did you skin up the area which avalanched? If so, did you notice anything about the snowpack there versus the more shaded aspect where you dug your pit? Were there any other red flags besides the terrain (steep, convex, terrain trap?)
FWIW, I toured around snoqualmie the day be...

Are you talking about the northeast facing slopes on the way to Pinapple Pass? Hard to imagine much sun hitting them. The northeast slopes slopes beneath the Tooth always make me nervous. Wind loaded, convexities, 30-40% slope. Stay away...
Nice report and photos. I was in that area in late January with another group. Impressive lines with exellent photos!
I've seen the nap done before, but not in a couloir. Sets a new standard for style. Smashing.
Way to go guys!
That's been on the list, I'm amazed it hasn't been repeated before now. Cant wait for what's next...!

Sounds like you had a better condition. Good idea to skip the main summit ;)
Yes, of course. I guess I was a little jealous that you took it up the Tatoosh with those other boys.
Lucky for Sam that I wasn't there; I would have been the first one down with the Zipper!

Zipper. You know Lovers Lane will always be our special line Joe.
Thanks for the TR Scott and strong work. I was previously unaware of a Black Hole in that part or our universe. I hope to fall in myself one of these days.
Not everyone damn it! :'(
Looks good fellas. Sorry to bail at the last minute. Six would have been too many anyhow.
Lovers Lane? Zipper?

Yes, that was the group we saw from the top of the exit to the phantom. There was another group of 4 who got in just before the 12 though which was lucky for them!
good y'all started early....by 11am we saw no fewer than 12 skiers come down, with some folks skinning back up for a second lap.
anyone skied the Crooked this season? After the slot, our party yesterday skinned back up the phantom for the Crooked and found the summit ridge of Snoqualmie to be a solid wall of huge cornices that made it look impassible without some serious cornice cutting or rappelling shenanigans.

This was even better than what I was expecting from the subject line.
nice work guys!

I usually start the tour of Kendall Stump from exit 53.
Ditto, unless planning to ski back via Commonwealth Basin, though I haven't done the stump in a while. Sometimes it can offer nice "early corn" too thanks to its aspect and elevation.
I usually start the tour of Kendall Stump from exit 53. It minimizes the deep canopy component and starts you going vetical sooner. With the south exposure on the Stump, I usually tour there in December and January when the sun is lower in the sky. As you realized, there are considerable small trees so snow coverable can be variable in early season. It's an easy 1800vf tour in a storm where temperatures are lower than pass level.
