1-2' runnels and suncups to 2' in diameter below the Crescent.
Looks like the descent was way more enjoyable than the ascent. ;)

Were you tempted to ski Tenpeak at all?
We looked up the north couloir as we traversed by but decided we'd rather spend our time skiing the Suiattle once we'd settled into camp.
It is now time to use the road, not the meadow to access Silver!
Drive as far as you can past the PCT taking a left at the Y in the road. Stay on the road until it ends (there is a fire pit here when the snow is gone). The road ends near to where you pick up the normal ski route.
No bushwacking required. 8)

I better not see a worker's comp claim out of that, Ron. ;)
Merely a flesh wound... adds character, right Ron? Oh yes, you are a character!
MadDog, nice skiing the "civilized" chute with you. Like the oatmeal man says... "it's the right thing to do."

Well done Oyvind and Tobae! On Saturday evening and Sunday, Khanh and I wondered how you two were doing. It looks like you had a great trip.
Tobae - you're amazing!

Good call on table Silas. The turns off Table and Herman were smooth by the way, At least where we were:)
Silas, f.y.i the first vimeo does not work. I think it had Stefs money shot so I was hoping to view.

nice one Scottt and Andrew! I was looking for the Ptarmigan report, but this is better yet. Were you tempted to ski Tenpeak at all? Been looking at that one...
A beautiful trip Ryan and Greg. Congrats you guys!
Beautiful pics Mike! Well planned with the lodging, hops and stars.
I am taking a backpacking tip in the neighborhood in a week and a half (coming from out of town and bringing along some less experienced backpackers) and was wondering if you got a look over at the West aspect of Granite Mountain? Any idea if camping at Robin's Lake would be feasible? Did you get a look at Jade lake from the Lynch Glacier? From your report it sounds like the general snow line right now is 5400'...

We went topside, to the west end off N side to the saddle. Beautiful day to just hang out on top with 360 views. Good corn but lots of runnels from saddle to Bagley Lakes. Silas you chose the primo run.
Thanks for the map! Great pics too.
Way to go Ron J , spill some of that geezer blood for the common good.
Seriously, I'm glad you're ok .

Nice to have you back in the hood Oyvind. Great trip you two!
It looks like you all had a great day. The snow coverage up there is phenominal. There is great skiing right from the car. I did Dege on the 9th as part of an Antler to Dege traverse. The Dege chute was so nice we had to do a quick bootpack back up for a second lap.

Pics, or I don't believe you that it was smooth! Welcome back to the NW.

Aside: I'm sorry that the thumbnail images I included in my 2009 report are dead. I'd replace them with full-size images, but TAY apparently locks the thread after a certain time. Is there a good reason for this?
TAY's done that since long before my time -- it's an anti-spam measure, mostly, to prevent spam posters from filling the dozens o...
Nice work Tobae & Oyvind! Apparently if three days isn't enough, one day is the way to go... :)
That looks like a great trip! Way to nail the corn boys.

Thanks for all the very positive comments about our traverse. It is quite the thrill to have an idea, have it lay in fallow and then to actually came back many years later and pull it off. Thank you Drew for rekindling the...
Yeah, it was bad for us on that crossing over to Tenpeak. The stream was raging and I ended up using a very suspect snowbridge to ski across...as I was not comfortable at all to walk across.
It's amazing how much snow is still around. I just skied to about 4200 feet...to just above the crossing of Bachelor Creek on July 7th while doing the Ptarmigan Traverse! I didn't get that far in early/mid June last year.

Such a beautiful place...
Interesting to hear about the White Pass to Indian Pass section. It sounds like you hit it during the worst transitional period. When we did it in early June 2009, it was almost entirely skiable and not unpleasant. When Jason and Kyle did it a month later, I think they walked that section, which was probably okay as well. It's only during the melt-out that this section is bad.

The only photos I have of Oyvind are of his back since he was always so far in front of me-thanks for those great skin tracks! The Lynch glacier was a fantastic ski and there are tons of potential lines on Hinman. Snow was very smooth with a dusting of fresh above 6000 ft. Suncups and runnels below. Scatter creek crossing looked intimidating in the dark but not a problem in the Subaru.
Great job Scott and Andrew... great adventure and ski tour full of solitude.
excellent andrew and scott - been wanting to do this one, some day ;-)
I'm just posting again to say wow and what the fuck and god damn and so on. And I keep laughing at your thread title. Damn, boys. Soon time will come for variations on a theme.
Congrats Jesse. Big effort and commitment on that for sure. Awesome!
It would be fun to ski with you on one of your adventures, but me being on the east coast at the moment, I don't think embarking on any ski outings is a viable option for me at the moment. Keep up the great work!!
@Lisa: Thanks, Lady! It was great to see you and hear about your stories from the same area. The photo came from this TR: Amar Skis the Kautz Glacier via the DC mid-July 2010. To me, visually, it looks similar to the coverage we saw, but considering how much fatter things have generally been this year, I'd say we probably had significantly more coverage than the photo. Thanks for mentioning...
i care .. i was wondering where this was .. just looking at the footage you guys shot up on glacier and the chocolate ... great stuff
wonder where's jason's tr too?? .. he has even more pix
anyhow .. as you know .. looking forward to your stuff from bolivia and las lenas .. and missing you ..

Sounding GOOD DOWN THERE!
What sort of open slope continous fall line-ish vertical is there to be had (noy including the slog through the woods..)?

- driving access is from the south side, to Bumpass hell, & a 20 minute schlep to the TH. Park service has the road closed there to Devastated area. The Park website has all the info.
Wow! Congratulations on a successful traverse. 8) 8)
Thanks for the detailed report...was just thinking about this area.
Nice trip report ryan. Seems like you guys got redemption!
Sorry, guess my "light is right" imagination got away from me . . .
Nice work Scott and Andrew. Glad you finally got Glacier Scott - and glad the route worked out.
Looks like you were right on about the coverage. I need to stop the rest of my life for a couple day so I can enjoy a slice of that....

Now that's style. Leather boots and three-pins with Trabs!
What three-pins ??? Silas never mentioned any....Maybe he had NO bindings to go super light.

I may be misunderstanding, but I'm pretty sure Monika and I skied what you're describing as the Cool Glacier Headwall. Here's our line:
Opps, you're correct. So that's the line we should call Monika's Couloir. It's much more impressive that the line we skied (see below) and more fitting for her. The difference in snow cover...

W side Fremont looked well melted out 4 July already, just one possible finger just below L/O and that one didn't look to touch bottom. Pic is from 4 July.
Wow. My wife and I did Clark Saturday - Monday and saw your tracks on Sunday. We speculated who was this crazy. Now we know. Excellect work!
Very cool trip, I enjoyed the read.
BTW, nice to meet you at Silver on Wednesday....thanks again for grabbing my hat.

The west side of the ridge trail from the Lookout all the way back south to Frozen Lake had maybe four short patches of snow on it a week ago. Only one of them looked big enough to still be there this weekend. I presume you are planning a hike and not a ski? As you can see from Altasnob's picture, the best way in there to ski from Sunrise would be into one of the north facing basins and over the east ridge seen in his photo on the left and up to the lookout or the 7291...
can't say what the West side of Fremont looks like but here's a pic of the East side from last weekend

Beautiful trip, trip report, and attitudes. Great stamina. I've never been as tired in my life as after a Shuksan climb via Fisher Chimneys and that was without Baker. Fred Becky calls that "an interesting and tortuous route". Thanks for sharing some true BC touring.
