We are pondering a trip to Fremont from Sunrise this weekend. Did you happen to notice what the coverage was like on the route to Fremont from Sunrise?

In particular I was wondering what the west side of the south ridge (where the summer trail goes up) looks like?

Any advice you can offer based on your previous experience with Fremont is most welcome  ;)
DAMN, Jessie!  Way to get after it, girl. :-)
Nicely written report Jessie and way to nail it at the last minute. Bet you are glad you skied that instead of the Bend camping/party. I guess we kind of had a little party to celebrate none the less albeit late. I would so love to add a photo from that but best not.  ;)

I am curios at what month the photo from Amar was taken and how similar to your current said conditions it is? It looks like August type conditions.

Nice work to you both!  8)

Dear Sirs ,
Any Green Trails Map will show  that it is illegal to operate snowmobiles on Silver Peak .
Any questions call U.S.F.S. North Bend District L.E.O. Mac Intosh and am certain that he can help clarify this , ( 425) 888-1421

I checked in at the NB ranger station last week and the ranger said there was no closure orders in effect in the pass area.

I just got off the phone with him, he said if you need a better map he can help clarify this, his number is ( 425) 888-1421

;D
Superb and magnificent! All heart.
Perfect Ryan! :)
Is the road open all the way through the park now?
Thanks, Kyle, Scott & Donn. That line definitely deserves some more skiing in its future!
What a beautiful way to honor Monika, and what a herculean effort!
well done and downright honorific, Gregg and Ryan.  and as always, well-written Ryan.  stoked for the new traverse, and for you guys.
That run never fails to be four stars!!

That is a good idea going in with the gps to make the "get-out" route!

When I confronted his sidekick a little higher, the first thing she said was "We have seven clients" (as though that made any difference) and then started giving me a lecture on the benefits of wearing a helmet even though I had told her I got hit in the chest and narrowly missed being hit in the face. Mountain Madness does not own this--or any other mountain.

Wow you guys are monsters.

Are we sure Greg Hill didn't clone himself twice and have two really good costumes?
yeah, plenty of snow still and it doesn't seem to be melting too fast.

smilesinor, the mt loop is fully open so you can drive in circles until you get sick!
Now that's style. Leather boots and three-pins with Trabs!
Beautiful trip, and well told, Ryan! Thanks for the report.
wish i had gone with you.  love it.

I agree with Ryan. You've had an awesome, well earned year Eric. Done yet?
Thanks all was a fun ski and great season so far!  Would like to get on the west routes of Rainier if the weather allows within the next couple of weeks.  Anyone interested??

You guys ROCK!  So psyched you pulled it off!  I like the implication in the title -  isn’t Baker the standard approach for Shuksan?
I'd have to say this is one of the more praise worthy trip reports I've seen!  Awe-inspiring!! I don't think my old crepid body during its prime could have pulled off such a feat!
Well done fellas, an awesome if somewhat grueling trip!

I'm also struck with the fact it's July, and people are debating over the use of snowmobiles.

Honestly, its really the only reason we did it, we knew with the snow depth with what it was in June, it would be no problem to make it to July, granted the snow had melted more than 10-15 feet in 30 days, it still happened!

Right on Ryan. Cool trip for sure.

Katuz Cleaver Ascent/ East Success Glacier Coulior Ski Descent
It quickly became apparent that Casey's fitness surpassed my own, and as we had chosen to climb unroped, I suggested he continue at a pace he saw fit, and that we would rejoin one another upon the descent. I was concerned, too, that with my slower pace, the sun might warm our snow beyond perfection as well as the r...
Wow.

Falling asleep at a stoplight - better than on the highway! Sort of reminds me of my own experience of being honked at while waiting for a four way stop sign to turn green the morning after a much more mundane tour (Snowking) some years back.
It wasn't the cliff/waterfall in the photo bellow was it?  I imagine the marks from 2 weeks ago are probably gone, but if it was here I apologize for leading you astray.......but at least you didn't get on TOP of the waterfall.  That was an interesting evening.

we only had to walk a little past the car-blocking berm to reach a snow strip that was between one and...
Bravo!!!

Your a classy guy Ryan. Thanks for the great write up!

gettin' Vertical Woman.. Way to go Jessie!

Great write up.

I don't think that anyone will make the argument that they really ENJOY the sound of a snowmobile.  They are annoying as holy hell.
Turbo four strokes are making headway though, so hopefully soon I can listen to a nice whoooossshhhhh sound, instead of the angry bees.

To me sleds are a great tool to get somewhere far away quickly.  Without a sled places like Gallagher are just simply not a viable option mid winter.  Another great example here is New Year...
Is the mountain loop highway open yet coming from Granite Falls?
Wow.
Awesome trip, guys.
Think I'll go take a nap now  ::)
Great TR and images.  My old body is tired reading the long adventure.  The before and after photos are wonderful.  Your comment about falling asleep at a traffic light brings back memories of past adventures.   ;)
wow! fantastic! Congratulations to you both. Very inspiring.

great write up too.  love that line -

my sense of what was immediate continued to grow.

WOW! speechless ... tremendous effort ..

Wow, I never knew such hospitality still existed!  People offering burgers and brews to perhaps unknown strangers, assuming I'm understanding this post correctly.

This is typical sledder behavior. The more I ride and encounter sledders, the more I realize they are some of the best people around...

Here is one of our winter BBQ's! http://www....
Gregg and Ryan, congratulations. Seriously amazing accomplishment. Not many trip reports make a person misty eyed, but this one did it to me...

The Monika Traverse!!
This is an example of superb cardiovascular stamina!  Congrats!!
Killer work guys, great TR.  That first picture looks like American Gothic.
Thamks for the nice report/pics  and update on the Paradise.
holy cow guys... thats amazing.  congrats!

Our group were all backcountry riders first, not snowmobilers, so we maintain the same goal that everyone does here. Snowmobiles just allow us to open up the doors even further with increased runs and being able to ski areas noones ever skied before. Every time we run into hikers or backcountry adventurists we try to treat them with the upmost respect, and that includes not chopping up the s...

I believe that the summit's Forest Service special use permit for the nordic center allows them to exclude sleds (and skiers without a trail ticket) from the groomed trails during the nordic center's permit season.   As soon as the nordic center closes for the season a fair sized group of snowmobilers hit the Silver peak area -- usually by the time the road has melted out to Windy Pass...
You whack jobs rule.  Monika is grinning ear to ear.
Wow, nice work!  Sounds like a great (but burly) trip!
Nice -- looks like there's great coverage there still.

Yes it is. Outside of boyne's permit AKA: when the summit closes

The road has some pretty bad washboard sections that I don't remember being an issue two weeks ago, don't go flying up there.  The meadow is pretty much entirely melted out to the big whoops were you can't get a normal vehicle past now.

Those washboards were not there two weeks ago, maybe were caused by so many people going up, and then using brakes a lot drivi...
What a fun line! Nice work you guys.  Props to Bird. I'd be terrified in there without a helmet!
