It would be fun to ski with you on one of your adventures, but me being on the east coast at the moment, I don't think embarking on any ski outings is a viable option for me at the moment. Keep up the great work!!
@Lisa: Thanks, Lady! It was great to see you and hear about your stories from the same area. The photo came from this TR: Amar Skis the Kautz Glacier via the DC mid-July 2010. To me, visually, it looks similar to the coverage we saw, but considering how much fatter things have generally been this year, I'd say we probably had significantly more coverage than the photo. - driving access is from the south side, to Bumpass hell, & a 20 minute schlep to the TH. Park service has the road closed there to Devastated area. The Park website has all the info.

Opps, you're correct. So that's the line we should call Monika's Couloir. It's much more impressive that the line we skied (see below) and more fitting for her. The difference in snow cover...

W side Fremont looked well melted out 4 July already, just one possible finger just below L/O and that one didn't look to touch bottom. Pic is from 4 July.
Wow. My wife and I did Clark Saturday - Monday and saw your tracks on Sunday. We speculated who was this crazy. Now we know. Excellect work!

The west side of the ridge trail from the Lookout all the way back south to Frozen Lake had maybe four short patches of snow on it a week ago. Only one of them looked big enough to still be there this weekend. I presume you are planning a hike and not a ski? As you can see from Altasnob's picture, the best way in there to ski from Sunrise would be into one of the north facing basins and over the east ridge seen in his photo on the left and up to the lookout or the 7291...
can't say what the West side of Fremont looks like but here's a pic of the East side from last weekend
Beautiful trip, trip report, and attitudes. Great stamina. I've never been as tired in my life as after a Shuksan climb via Fisher Chimneys and that was without Baker. Fred Becky calls that "an interesting and tortuous route". Thanks for sharing some true BC touring.
We are pondering a trip to Fremont from Sunrise this weekend. Did you happen to notice what the coverage was like on the route to Fremont from Sunrise?
In particular I was wondering what the west side of the south ridge (where the summer trail goes up) looks like?
Any advice you can offer based on your previous experience with Fremont is most welcome ;)

Nicely written report Jessie and way to nail it at the last minute. Bet you are glad you skied that instead of the Bend camping/party. I guess we kind of had a little party to celebrate none the less albeit late. I would so love to add a photo from that but best not. ;)

I checked in at the NB ranger station last week and the ranger said there was no closure orders in effect in the pass area.

When I confronted his sidekick a little higher, the first thing she said was "We have seven clients" (as though that made any difference) and then started giving me a lecture on the benefits of wearing a helmet even though I had told her I got hit in the chest and narrowly missed being hit in the face. I'm also struck with the fact it's July, and people are debating over the use of snowmobiles.
Honestly, its really the only reason we did it, we knew with the snow depth with what it was in June, it would be no problem to make it to July, granted the snow had melted more than 10-15 feet in 30 days, it still happened!

It wasn't the cliff/waterfall in the photo bellow was it? I imagine the marks from 2 weeks ago are probably gone, but if it was here I apologize for leading you astray.......but at least you didn't get on TOP of the waterfall. That was an interesting evening.
